Looks like things are going well for Ampai and Buriram United...

http://anthonyampaipitakwong.wordpress.com...-cup-champions/

Because we won the FA Cup, this qualified us to play a wild card game on February 13 against one of the top teams in Australia, Brisbane Roar FC, at our home stadium. Who ever wins this game will advance into the AFC Champions League. We have begun training and preparing for this coming game for many weeks. There are a lot of new faces to the squad in 2013 so a big part of pre season has been finding team chemistry and getting to know the new players.

What an Amazing win. After two cramps, two overtimes, some pks, we are heading to Japan for the AFC Champions League! Su Su Buriram

...Theo was again called into action six minutes before half-time to deny Kai Hirano before Anthony Ampaipitakwong fired an effort just wide of the Brisbane upright following good work from Theerathon Bunmathan in the last minute of the first half. ...

Inside info? Is he getting the contract? That would leave Blair Gavin as the only Zip in the MLS not on a roster.

No inside info, just saw the story on the timbers website when I was looking about info for Benny.

Thanks for getting the link posted.

Nice article about Scott Caldwell published a few days ago: Caldwell Getting Re-acclimated

A comment by NE Revs staff writer yesterday on twitter during the Revs preseason match with the Sounders which we Zips Soccer fans already know.

From a CNN story about the big snow storm out West. It snowed in Arizona where the MLS is holding pre-season games. They used this picture of Real Salt Lake vs. New England. There is Scott Caldwell on the right. He is probably used to it. :)

Oh, is that what it was. I was texting Bisbee during the Sounders game that DeAndre was playing a great game (subbed in in the 2nd half), but something was wrong with the feed. I was seeing so much snow. :D The Sounders won 2-0 thanks to DeAndre and Steve (who were on the field together in the 2nd half) having experience in those conditions, I'm sure.

This time of year in the desert SW, it usually is not even humid enough for any sort of precipitation whatsoever. Weird.

It seems that it only snows in Tucson when the PGA tour is in town, and the World Match Play tourney is there. Nice shots of Rory McIlroy & Co. loading their clubs into cars in the snow after play was called. I noticed the addition of Marcus Hahnemann in goal for SSFC. Is he ahead of the Swiss GK from last year? That guy had a darn good season -- if they're together, that must give Seattle the best tandem in the US.

Hahnemann is #2, but he is probably one of the best #2 keepers in the league. Except for, ya know, Montreal's #2 keeper

DeAndre Yedlin in the starting lineup for the Sounders with Adam Johansson out with an injury. #Homegrown

1st Sounders homegrown player Yedlin gets massive opportunity by starting tonight v Veracruz

Sounders FC lineup: GK Michael Gspurning, D DeAndre Yedlin, D Zach Scott, D Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, D Leo Gonzalez, M Mario Martinez, M Osvaldo Alonso, M Brad Evans, M Steve Zakuani, F Mauro Rosales, F Eddie Johnson

EDIT: http://blog.thenewstribune.com/soccer/2013...endly-at-6-p-m/

One of the interesting names on there is DeAndre Yedlin, starting in place of Adam Johansson (knee). I asked coach Sigi Schmid about Yedlin’s progress yesterday.

“He’s doing all right,” Schmid said. “We’ve talked about a lot of things early on that I wanted him to get better at, and he’s put some of those things into his game. He’s got to use his quickness and his speed, because he has quickness and great speed, and that has to be the hallmark of his defending. When he does that and he does that consistently – he did that a couple of times last night – then I think he’ll make his way.”

We've seen how much variation there can be in the success of these guys when they leave college, and a lot has to do with the situation of the club they join. It looks like DeAndre has a very good opportunity to get significant minutes right from the start. Hope it works out for him.

The US U20 MNT qualified for U20 World Cup this summer by defeating Canada 4-2. Wil Trapp scored the USA's 3rd goal in the stoppage time just before the half and played the full 90 minutes. Dillon Serna came on in the 84th minute and had a shot off the cross bar. Of course, it was sweet to hear Akron mentioned several times as well as see our former Zips in action.

Making his MLS debut – starting in place of the injured Adam Johansson – after inking a Homegrown contract in the offseason, 19-year-old right back DeAndre Yedlin stood out not only for his big as life blonde mohawk, but his sizzling play from the right back spot.

WATCH: DeAndre Yedlin robs Marco Di Vaio

“[He was] absolutely fantastic,” raved Sounders goalkeeper Michael Gspurning. “He played very calm, won fights, played good passes, had a couple of situations where he went to the offense and made the crosses. For a 19-year-old, a great game from him.”

Yedlin showed, among other things, a strong positional sense and a good ability to get up and down the right side, contributing on defense, putting in his fair share of crosses and even narrowly missing on a diving header attempt on goal early in the second half that could have changed the tone of the game.

MLS Match Recap: Montreal Impact 1, Seattle Sounders 0

“I thought he played well,” Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid reflected in his postgame press conference. “For a young man making his debut at home there could have been a lot of pressure, he could have not handled that well, but I thought he handled it well. He played well and he had a good game.”

Also, in the article, Yedlin named one of mlssoccer.com's Men of the Match.

Very nice debut by DeAndre!
