ziptrumpet87
Maybe some of you have seen this before, but here's a ranking of football stadiums by conference...MSNBC stadium rankingsWe score high only on history and I think we are on our way to raising our reputation in the fan category. This shows some reasons to "git 'er done" building the new stadium. Let's go Mack!

ziptrumpet87
The RubberBowl ranked 10th in the conferance overall, dead last in setting and structure, second in history, and ninth in fans.I think the history thing has something to do with old Browns games, and maybe it being a WPA project. Not sure what their criteria really were for these ratings. I do think we can improve on them with the new stadium (when it finally gets built). Dr Z
Not a very well designed chart. I see your confusion. In a nutshell the graphic illustrates:The Rubber Bowl (overall) is 10 out of 13 in the MacFans are 9 out of 13 in the MacHistory is 2 out of 13 in the MacStructure and setting are last in the MacIn my future chart (the one after our new stadium is built) I ranked us #1 overall in every category
zen
You know what I'm going to hate though? If they rush the new stadium project, and nickle and dime it into mediocrity.IMHO, if you are going to spend 100mill on a structure, and it's only partially better than what you got, why spend the 100mill? Spend 150 and do it right (these numbers are an example. I have no clue what the budget would be).Sure, a campus location would make a huge difference. Hell, even moving the rubberbowl itself on or near campus would be a great thing. But my point is, I really really really hope we don't do it half assed just to do it.:(I wish there was a way I could get involved, but I suspect there are people in place who both want to monopolize the project for themselves and wouldn't accept outside input, and they probably want to viel it in a cloak of secrecy for planning effectiveness. ziptrumpet87
even moving the rubberbowl itself on or near campus would be a great thing I agree. Some of the other schools have old stadiums and were ranked above ours, so it can't just be because it's old. It has a bit of architectural identity that might be cool and worth saving/renovatiing if it were only on campus.
GP1
Clearly this survey was rigged to have someone other than Akron win. I would like to suggeest the following categories that would catapult Akron to the top of this list by scoring at the top of the category.1. Most likely to cause a rash due to fiberglass skin irritation.2. Most likely to cause a player to have an allergic reaction due to mold in dressing rooms.3. Most likely to leave a fan in a coma due to concrete falling from above.4. Most likely to have lights go out during a night game.5. Most likely to have cars parked in an illogical manner.6. Most likely to not have all of the lights on the scoreboard working.7. Most likely to have a goal post fall over if a ball hits it.8. Most likely to have a fan break a leg when they step on a bench and fall through. These are just a few poll topics I was able to come up with in about two minutes. There are probably many more. Feel free to add your own. Let's get the Rubber Bowl to the top of this survey.
zipsbandman
They are going to do this right. We've been planning this project forever. Something must be getting done. It probably won't be the largest stadium, but it's going to be very comfortable with a great atmosphere. large pressbox, luxury boxes, team shop/other features
zippyrifle32
8. Most likely to have a fan break a leg when they step on a bench and fall through. one of the games i went to this year this happened. all of the students were standing on the wooden benches cheering and bouncing then crack! there goes one girl down into the row in front of her. luckly there were people there so she didn't get hurt but still... Kangaroo Craig
The rankings are definitely flawed when they have Dix stadium ranked #7. The home side and that press box there are ok, but the visitors side and the two end zones make that place look like a high school field. I'm not that impressed with Doyt Perry either. It looks a lot like Can't, and its located in an area next to I75 that looks like a cow pasture.

UADavid
fear the brown roo Posted on Mar 17 2006, 11:44 PM i was at miami last year and it was pretty damned nice.I was also at Miami this past year and can't believe there is a nicer football stadium in the MAC. Nice location, close parking for tailgaters and buses (our bus was right behind the stadium), awesome scoreboard, lots of brick and wrought iron, and an enclosed party area with vendors next to the stadium. I have been to Ohio, Can't, EMU, BGSU, and Miami. A small list I admit, but if you weren't at Miami last year, you can't believe how nice it is now. If you ever meet me, ask me about the plane that crashed during practice or the car that drove through the fence at the top of the stadium and was hanging over the part of the stadium that said Rubber Bowl. Zipsrifle
Here's how I'd rank the MAC Stadiums I've been to, according to my preference.1) Miami - Great atmosphere, great stadium, no problem seeing the game.Central - I loved the atmosphere, no problem seeing the game.Ohio - I didn't really like the stadium layout, but could see the field.Eastern - WAY to far from the field, but I like how it's integrated with the arena.Akron - It's a dump, but the most stadium like of all the MAC stadiums I've been to.BG - Oversized HS field in the middle of farm country. Can't - Poorly thoughout HS field with terrible traffic patterns. I think the first two are far above the others, who are almost equal in my minds.
