johnnyzip84 Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 Congrats on the 19 game streak, Zips! Let's start another one, with far more importance, on Tuesday. Go Zips!!!
cjapsu Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 Is it football season yet? Woah - no. Dear God I do not even want to think about having to watch a UA football game. Actually, the UA basketball team would probably beat the UA football team AT FOOTBALL.
Quickzips Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 Talk about buying in too your own press clippings. Zips came out tonight looking like they expected to be handed this game just for showing up. Everything that has concerned people about this team despite the long winning streak showed up tonight. Missed FT's. Getting yourself into big holes. Not always the best from 3 point land. The occasional defensive lapses. It was all there. Only problem was that we never did manage to turn the switch on and get it done. Nothing but disappointment right now in our guys. They flat out got out-played in every facet of the game tonight. It isn't even worth analyzing individual performances because tonight was about the team. The team just flat out let us all down. It's gut check time right now for this team. It has been so long since we've lost a game. Do we use this as the wake-up call that we aren't as good as we thought we were, re-group and come out and steamroll some teams the way we should be or do we get frazzled by this one and start falling apart?

You better believe they'll use it as a wakeup call. Zeke doesn't want to roll over in his senior year. I feel bad for Miami on Tuesday. I feel a steamroll coming on...
Blue & Gold Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 We looked emotionally spent. 4 of 21 on 3's. I guess we were due to lay an egg. Plus, giving credit to Buffalo, they're always sky-high to play us and they played a very good game. And we've all known for a couple of years that Javon Mcrae is a great player. I like Reggie Witherspoon.
lumberjack Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 Serve them right...the zips need Chauncey on the floor...
akronzips71 Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 They shot 56% It is hard to win when the other team shoots 56% Everyone loses sometimes. We always knew it would take two wins at the Q to go to the dance. Right now we need to win next week to lock up the MAC and the NIT.
akronzips71 Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 Serve them right...the zips need Chauncey on the floor... He was on the floor and he missed shots along with everyone else.
Quickzips Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 You better believe they'll use it as a wakeup call. Zeke doesn't want to roll over in his senior year. I feel bad for Miami on Tuesday. I feel a steamroll coming on... I don't know about that. Miami isn't a good team, but this Zips team hasn't lost in so long it is hard to know how we are going to respond. We've been playing with fire far too long with these early deficits and these long scoring droughts. If this team is as mentally tough as some claim them to be it will be an absolute beatdown on Tuesday. If not, this could turn into a 2 or 3 game losing steak in a hurry and the wheels will come off this team. I didn't like the body language against NDSU, and I didn't like it again tonight. Right now is when you need your seniors and your leaders to step up. Unfortunately one of those seniors (Chauncey) has all but packed it in at this point. I don't know what is wrong with him, but he's shown no effort at all since the knee injury. You aren't going to get minutes to KD without consistent effort.
Quickzips Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 Serve them right...the zips need Chauncey on the floor... Chauncey needs to get his head on straight. I watched him extensively against NDSU before the game, during the game, at half-time and after the game. He had not interest in anything that was going on. I personally watched a 3-4 minute stretch in pre-game warmups where he was holding a long distance conversation with someone in the stands. He passed up his turn in the layup line at least half a dozen times and when he did take shots they were half-hearted or they were Nick Goddard style 3's from the bench. Memo to Chauncey. You will not see minutes from KD if that is the attitude you bring to the table. You're a senior. Wake up and start acting like it.
bigzipguy Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 This loss was worse than some may think. Even if we win the MACC, our seeding will now be no better than a 13.
zestycoyote Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 Witherspoon said many nice things about the Zips during his postgame interview on STO. I think he'd be a great dark horse candidate for a bigger job. I'd love to see what he could do with five Javon McCreas. Good game by Zeke. Needed to get him the ball more often. Tree will look good in the box score, but he was shut down by McCrea and wasn't really a factor. Outside shooters (and I don't mean Harney) need to start hitting some shots if we want to win a game in the MAC Tournament. Overall though, there is not enough alcohol in my house to get me through the final 3.5 hours of the night...
K92 Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 Very disappointing loss, for sure. But hey, Zips fans...never miss an opportunity to take a potshot at the football team. A lot of you jokers are Zips fans in name only.

Well, in all fairness, it's tough for me to watch a lot of Zips football games down here in Houston and I do actually watch the ones that occasionally get broadcasted but man, it's hard to watch. I also follow my college undergrad (PSU) closer than my law school (UA) so there's always a bit of overlap.

cjapsu Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 This loss was worse than some may think. Even if we win the MACC, our seeding will now be no better than a 13. Yeah, but for a team like the Zips, does a 13 seed have that much of a difference in potential upset possibility over a 12 seed? When we win out, I predict an 11 seed, especially if it comes down to the Zips and the Bobcats in the MACC. I'm looking forward to 2 big wins to close out the regular season right now!!
bigzipguy Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 There can be a HUGE difference between a 12 and 13 seed, certainly between 13 and an 11.
akronzips71 Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 PEOPLE.... ONE loss in TWENTY games. Get a grip on yourselves. We are having a great season.

LZIp Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 The let down was expected, and the loss will do us good in many ways outside of our at-large chances being buried. Outside of the team playing bad, there were a few questionable decisions made tonight to me. Betancourt and Abreu on the court at the same time? I dont mind Deji getting some minutes, but did not think he should have been in while we were trying to make a comeback with under 10 left. We need scoring a scoring threat at the 2 then. I just dont understand why Harney is allowed to shoot 3s. He is probably shooting 15% this season. Zeke could pull that off. Its just not his game and he shouldnt force it.
zestycoyote Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 PEOPLE.... ONE loss in TWENTY games. Get a grip on yourselves. We are having a great season. HORSE. SHIT. With this talented of a team, we should stomp at team like UB. I refuse to swallow losses like tonight's. A loss like this puts us in a much tougher position to win a NCAA Tournament game (if we even get there).
odhgibo Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 I'm in the same boat. UB lost a tough one on the road and figures that it can salvage a down year by being the team to put a 1 in the Zips' L column. A few of us (LZ, SZ, etc.) sensed problems. Trap games are real. A big, emotional comeback victory against a rival takes a toll both physically and emotionally. These are 18-22 y.o. kids, many of whom are facing this type of situation for the first time. Combine that with Alumni Hall being a very tough to play (Zips are now 4-10), and this had all the markings of a trap game.
LZIp Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 "True" fans shouldn't get disappointed over an absolute joke of a (former) coach/program? Get over yourself. Saying the basketball team could beat the football team in football is an absolute joke of a comment. And as for the guy who made it, I'm glad you claim to rooting for Pedo State. I'll enjoy watching them fall into the depths of irrelevancy the next few years.
bigzipguy Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 Prior to this loss, against a sub-500 team, at-large bid chances were less than 50%. But still there. Now I think they are gone.
