A loss like this puts us in a much tougher position to win a NCAA Tournament game (if we even get there). You must not watch a lot of basketball, because losses like tonight are not uncommon at all. I can name many worse losses from top perennial teams in college basketball than what the Zips had tonight. This loss doesnt mean anything at all in putting us in a much tougher position. 11 seed, 12 seed, 13 seed; who cares. Seeding doesnt mean much, even less this year with the parity in college basketball. Its more about what team we draw and how we match up with them. akzipper Posted March 3, 2013 Report Share Posted March 3, 2013 A few of us (LZ, SZ, etc.) sensed problems. Trap games are real. A big, emotional comeback victory against a rival takes a toll both physically and emotionally. These are 18-22 y.o. kids, many of whom are facing this type of situation for the first time. Combine that with Alumni Hall being a very tough to play (Zips are now 4-10), and this had all the markings of a trap game. The problem is every single game they fall behind. It is always close at halftime and we need to rely on big run to put the opponent away. Well that run never happened and surprise, we lost. We struggle against them always in Buffalo and we struggled big time against them at home. What I don't understand is how Buffalo doesn't have a better record? They have some real talented kids on that team. McCrea is a beast and I really wish he was graduating this year. Buffalo played great against us this year...don't forget they beat us last year. Reggie knows something about us that others apparently don't. Hats off to Buffalo on a great win. Zips time to start a new streak on Tuesday and finish the season with four consecutive wins. I am just as disappointed that the at-large is now out the window as everybody else on this board. The road to the NCAA tourney has narrowed, but I think we will be a better team because of this loss in the long run. This goes back to our scheduling/conference talk on the OU thread. And as for the guy who made it, I'm glad you claim to rooting for Pedo State. I'll enjoy watching them fall into the depths of irrelevancy the next few years. I think you quoted the wrong guy but $100,000 says PSU still wins more games over the next 3 years than Akron does. Also, I still cheer for Akron against every other team in existence other than PSU (but only in football... I actively cheered for them against PSU basketball earlier this season). TCU beating Kansas to get their first conference win this year immeadiately comes to mind. I disagree with the seeding comment though. Seeds 1 thru 4 get location protection in the NCAA tournament. Those squads play teams seeded 13 thru 16. When Akron was a 13 they played Gonzaga in Portland, when the Zips were a 15 they played Notre Dame in Chicago. If you can get at least a 12 seed it is much more likely that you get a true neutral site game. In fact the last two projected brackets I saw on ESPN's site had Akron as a 12 seed playing Wisconsin in San Jose and then one showing the Zips as an 11 seed playing 6 seed Pitt in Dayton, there is a good chance that the crowd in both of those scenarios (certainly the San Jose one) would be pulling for us to pull off the upset. Football doesn't even belong in this thread. Only reason is to take a cheap shot. 2. Ianello is gone. Not a valid reason for taking cheap shot anymore. 3. Program is doing about as well as could be expected. Zips were much improved last year and definitely not "hard to watch". They were actually quite entertaining offensively. I should have just let it go, but my blood pressure is already elevated and reading some negativity toward fb made it worse. Get over myself? OK. Whatever you say. I am definitely a football-first kinda guy, but I have been totally wrapped up in this basketball team. I may be just a little sensitive to the typical board negativity right now. Any person with any kind of common sense, knows that when you are mentally, physically and/or emotionally drained, exhausted you tend to make POOR CHOICES and your work becomes affected! Lets be realistic...while I, ABOVE MOST OF YOU, wanted this winning streak to continue (for my own selfish reasons)...like several have said and I'll say it again...I'd rather it be now than on March 15 or 16th!
