I would personally say a majority of those calls were crap. Not a fan of the rule, or even the penalty. All I have to say is that they better review each and every hit in question. After the Miami game, which was early in the season, those calls greatly diminished. I think it was a combination of the Zips figuring it out, and the refs also getting better at identifying the call. Bowden said he was going to need to re-teach his players how to tackle. At the time, I thought it was a jab at the referees. But I think it is true. The old technique of cleaning a guy's clock when he crosses the middle is gone like leather helmets and the flying wedge. I actually like it, if the refs can get the call right. I'd rather see solid, text book tackling than see my star WR go out for 5 weeks due to a cheap missle-shot to the head. If the penalty for administering such a hit has now elevated to ejection status, it puts a big premium on getting the call right. It would seem that reviewing it would make sense, but it was previously an unreviewable call. Has that changed now? It's either going to take away from the fan experience even more by reviewing it, or they would simply anger fans by making a judgment call on a game ejection that is not correct. Either scenario is not going to be pleasing to most fans, I don't presume. I'm just thinking this through, but it is clearly an indication that there is an attempt being made to put safety above everything else, in a violent sport where obtaining any real degree of safety may be impossible, or could ruin the game completely.
