Hilltopper
Jeremiah Jackson was named Stark County player of the year. He is a 6'1" PG who scored 23/game. Grades? He looks like KD's kind of PG. WHAT HIS COACH SAYS “His leadership is unbelievable. He’s really respected by our guys and he’s a great kid, probably one of the most popular kids walking the hallways of our school. ... He’s the best guard offensively I’ve seen in a long time. He can shoot the 3. He can go to the hoop with either hand. He’s got a jumper. He’s got a floater. ... He’s the best since (GlenOak’s) C.J. McCollum.” — Perry head coach Paul Wackerly About his final game of the season. Sabol and Williams were enough to offset Perry senior Jeremiah Jackson’s game-high 27 points. Jackson scored Perry’s first eight points on a jumper, two runners in the lane and a dunk, and knocked down a couple of 3-pointers from NBA range. After scoring 17 points in the first half, he was limited to 10 in the second half with Williams and senior Trey Brummond applying pressure earlier in possessions. “We just did a better job of locating him early,” Rector said. “It’s high school basketball, you don’t have kids in practice or you don’t play teams that have his type of ability that you can simulate against. Until you see it, you just can’t simulate how fast he is, how talented he is and the angles he takes. Once our kids kind of caught their breath, the kids really responded.”
Blue & Gold
In my book, the fact that assessment was given by Barberton HC Ken Rector is significant. Ken's seen a lot of good basketball & has a future D-1 player of his own in Joshua Williams. I like Jeremiah's size @ 6'1". We haven't had a >6' PG in quite a while. In one of the linked articles, Massillon's HC said Jeremiah was the best offensive player he's seen since GlenOak's Ray McCallum (sp?). That's saying a lot. ZachTheZip
Maybe Akron should offer him a greyshirt opportunity. If he didn't have a big junior year, he likely would get overlooked as a recruit by most schools.
Blue & Gold
A little bit more on Jeremiah Jackson.
Blue & Gold
Here is another story, from earlier in the season, when Jeremiah Jackson broke Perry's single-game scoring record. He dropped 45 against Jackson. Jackson's a pretty decent team & the article again makes note of the diversity of Jeremiah's offensive skill set. Hilltopper
My friend who is a Hoover fan said he is the best HS player he has seen since Kenny Frease. I'm still trying to find out what his recruiting status is.

odhgibo
My friend who is a Hoover fan said he is the best HS player he has seen since Kenny Frease. I'm still trying to find out what his recruiting status is. I've seen Jackson since he was a freshman. CJ McCollum (GlenOak), at least as often as not, found ways to score without needing to handle the ball. Perhaps because of his skill set relative to those of his teammates, Jackson typically scores off the dribble. In that regard, he's more like Nyles Evans. His outside shot is above average for HS, but I wouldn't classify it as elite. He can play D1, although not at the highest level.

Perhaps Barberton's Ken Rector was simply being a gracious winner and being just a bit overly gracious in his comments concerning Jeremiah? His comments really made it sound like he'd almost never seen anything like Jeremiah.
Hilltopper
Sources tell me he is a non-AQ. JC will be his next stop.
Blue & Gold
Since we need better guard play... more on Jeremiah Jackson. Massillon Independent POY. Again, no mention of any college interest, so Hilltopper's sources are probably correct about Jeremiah being a non-qualifier. Maybe he could pay for college for a year like Tree & Harney? [edit] I'm sure glad we signed Nyles Evans before the Abreu fiasco. But we only have him for 2 years.
Blue & Gold
Jeremiah Jackson will be playing in the 2013 Stark-Summit All-Star Game at Malone College. Tomorrow night (3/27). Tip-off @ 8:30. I go to this just about every year. It's fun. Summit almost always wins comfortably. Stark county did win last year; 1st time they've won in a long time. Anyway, I'm going to see what kind of game Jeremiah's got. Grey-shirt him, Coach D.

Hilltopper
Just got home from the All Star game. Jackson is quite a player. He was easily the fastest player on the court. He was the leading scorer for the Stark team and could create his own shot at will.. He had quite a variety of drives to the basket, 3 pointers and a couple of beautiful passes. That said, he is very skinny and would need to beef up some to withstand the pounding of D-1 basketball. While at the game I got info from a good source who says he is going to a JC in Kansas or Michigan. It will be interesting to see if he makes it to an upper level D-1 team. Big Zip
I would hope that with the success of Harney and Treadwell he would see the viability of the pay your own way for a year approach. A PG who can score would be quite helpful on this team.
Dave in Green
If the juco route is the best option for JJ, then when Nyles Evans graduates from UA in two years there might be an opportunity for JJ to transfer in and be an immediate Zips contributor as we're hoping Nyles will be next season. Hilltopper
Yup. Jeremiah's going JUCO. From the story it seems like he is a really nice kid. Too bad his mother didn't push him harder on his academics.
RACER
big zip. he scored 27 in the semi final of the jucco championship game. that's only one game ,but Carmelo has not shown that kind of ability to score. we need both of them next year. we can win the mac with only melo at the pg. if this team wants to get back to the ncaa, and win. we need one of them to give us at least 10-15 quality min a game coming off the bench.this is the one area that concerns me next year. losing zeke will hurt, but we still the best front line in the mac. treadwell, harney, pat, jake are still better than any other mac teams. add that with Johnson, and the kid from charlotte. the kid from charlotte is ranked three stars, and our highest ranked player coming in this year. that give us six guys we can play on the frontline.
