When does Yedlin turn 20?

edit: July 9th http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeAndre_Yedlin

When will U20 WC happen? When is the cutoff?

This is from the regulations, found here: http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/tournament...rkey2013_ee.pdf

"TECHNICAL RULES FOR THE FINAL COMPETITION

2. In addition to the above provision, each Participating Member Association

shall ensure that all players of its representative team were born on or after 1

January 1993."

Looks like he's good to go.

The U20 WC takes place in July 2013. I've forgotten the cut off birth date, but I'm almost certain DeAndre is eligible. He should have been in the qualifying, IMHO. However, I think it's better that he's been with the Sounders. He's certainly making great contributions. B)

Perhaps he'll be noticed by Jurgen Klinsman.

It might be the best thing if D.A. can continue to fly under the international radar for a while. I'm sure Jurgen knows about him -- Caleb has his hot line # :D

For better and for worse, Yedlin is no longer flying beneath anyone's radar.

I love that picture of Darlington and DeAndre "battling". Before that game started, I saw DeAndre and Darlington and Darlington and Steve embrace each other in the tunnel before walking out onto the pitch at Century Link. It's so cool to see our professional players together even if they are competing against each other.

Excellent ball into the box by Yedlin to Neagle to Zakuani, deflected shot by Stevo knocked in by Neagle. Great scoring sequence initiated by Yedlin.

Unfortunately, Santos Laguna advances on Sounders in CONCACAF Champions League 2:1 aggregate.

Words With Ross: Honing the Homegrown Player

"It is one of the most eye-catching statistics from the first eight games of this season. A statistic normally reserved for midfield powerhouse Ozzie Alonso or one of the other experienced members of the squad. At 639 minutes, 19-year-old DeAndre Yedlin has been on the field for longer than any other Seattle Sounder, and he became the youngest player to score a goal and record an assist for Sounders FC – striking stuff for the local kid from O’Dea High School, the rookie who is still getting used to his new surroundings.

Yedlin is the Sounders’ first Homegrown Player, signed in the offseason after coming through the clubs’ Academy system, under-23 side and two college years at Akron. "...

Yedlin was better than I expected when I first saw him in August 2011. He has improved steadily throughout. Right now, he is playing much better in MLS than I predicted. Kid just keeps bringing it!Commentators are now talking him into USMNT call-up. WOW!

No ceiling? Three months into pro career, the sky is the limit for Seattle Sounders' DeAndre Yedlin

...“The thing with DeAndre is his skill and his energy,” Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid said. “His youth, and as a result his endurance, allows him to be able to attack on that right side of the field. It gives us a little more attacking flare on that side. It gives whoever is on the right side the ability to tuck in a little bit more.

"That’s something that helps us, that helps us compact our midfield at certain times. It’s really his energy and ability to close people down has helped us so far defensively in key moments.”

Yedlin’s progress was given a kickstart around this time last year when he joined the Sounders U-23 team and was given more opportunities to train with the senior side. While he had previously played under pro coaches, and spent his college years at the closest thing the nation has to a soccer factory and even participated in a Sounders training session or two, the 16-match PDL season offered a new kind of bridge to the professional ranks. ...
