I don't dislike him. I don't even know him. I just don't want to see him playing. At least, not for us. He is a turnover machine.
w00t
And here is another topic: Deji never got on the floor tonight, and no one noticed! Please Coach, MORE no Deji. I happily took notice of that midway through the second half. Everyone should be in good enough shape to shorten the bench now. Can't believe that it's turned out to be Harney as the best option at the point... He's not perfect, but he creates matchup problems and I think it's helped him get his confidence back after struggling in the last few games. Hopefully he starts tomorrow night, we can't afford to stumble out of the gate. Hate to say it, but I remain extremely underwhelmed by Betancourt, to put it charitably... hopefully his minutes are trimmed to 10-15 tomorrow. I don't know what was worse tonight, the foul shooting or the ill-timed turnovers (which Can't converted into points really well until the home stretch). Protect the ball and make free throws and that was a 20-point win. 20. We would have to be considered the underdog tomorrow but anything can happen. We need to play our game and ride those big horses down low, Tree and Zeke can carry this team on their backs if they get enough touches. Avoid turnovers, feed the post, make free throws, and play the defense that we're capable of playing and we dance... there's little room for failure in any of those four areas. phil
Great game at the Q. This game could have gone either way. I was surprised that Can't went for the win at the end but I guess they felt that Akron had the advantage if we went into overtime since a lot of their team was in foul trouble. I was surprised to learn that Can't did not score in the last 4 minutes unti their final uncontested basket. I think Harney did a great job at the point. He played under control and had only a couple of bad turnovers. It is amazing how good Zeke and Tree were in the 2nd half. In the first half Can't was doubling the ball when it went to Zeke and Tree. They both had trouble beating the double team. In the 2nd half it seemed to open up where we got the ball down low and Can't was unable to double team. The key is getting the ball to the big men. Harney did a better job than Bentacourt in getting the ball down low. I think that Harney may start at the point. It was great watching Chauncy getting playing time. I thought he played tough D. Would like to see him keep driving to the basket. Wish we could get more offense from Walsh and Benracourt. I think they only score 3 points between them. Highlight of the evening. Trees alley oop dunk, his block where he palmed the ball in his hand after the block, and his 3 pointer. I thought the refs were bad in the first half. However, they let Zeke play with the 4 fouls even though there seemed to be some contact on some of his blocks. Looking forward to tomorrow. Go Zips!!! Dr Z
I think Harney did a great job at the point.MVP of the game IMO. CB's time needs limited, the tourney is bigger than he is. Someday, but not 2013. If CB and PF are on the floor tomorrow at the same time...I'll take a recount on COY.

Dave in Green
What a game. I'm not sure who's more wiped out, the players or the fans. The players definitely raised their level of play up a notch tonight (except at the free throw line), and there was a lot of anxiety among the fans around us at the Q in those last couple of minutes. Harney was brilliant at the point. He made moves coming upcourt that left his defender stumbling, and he played under control most of the time. The big advantage he has over McAdams, who has more experience running the point, is that he's quicker and more athletic. I was mainly concerned about his ability to play under control, but he delivered big time. The Zips can't seem to put together all aspects of the game in any one game. But they do execute well enough in just enough areas to produce wins. Tonight was a good confidence builder for the Zips. But they will have to execute better in more areas of the game to beat the Kitties. I keep coming back to three words I've used to describe what this Zips team has -- talent, toughness and tenacity. They will need all three for the big game tomorrow night along with that important fourth point -- execution. I can't wait.
Quickzips
Only comment on the game. Have to improve the free throw shooting. We're a bad FT shooting team. I get it. But you can't shoot sub-40% from the line and expect to beat OU tomorrow night. Not happening. If the Zips shoot even a reasonable percent from the line tonight they win by double digits. Wouldn't be March without Dambrot patrolling the sidelines of the Q on a Saturday night with an NCAA tourney bid on the line. Go Zips! Dr Z
John Kuntz of the Plain Dealer has a nice photo gallery. Here is just one. Get Harney lots of fluids during the day today. Phil Masturzo of the Beacon Journal has his gallery here. Twenty percent of them are Zeke getting hit in the face?!? Was that Senderoff's game plan? meatwad
Zeke gets 7 blocks and 22 points Here we go !!!!!! I was reading through this thread for the first time this morning and I have to give you props on an amazing call. A couple more FTs for Zeke and you would have nailed it. meatwad
Highlight of the evening. Trees alley oop dunk, his block where he palmed the ball in his hand after the block, and his 3 pointer. So many great plays in this game. From the 11:16 mark to the 8:26 mark the Zips had 6!!! blocks including a sequence where they had 3 in a row. Zeke had 4 while Tree and Walsh had one apiece. I loved that. Tree's steal late in the game was incredible too. It only led to Harney making 1 of 2 FTs but it was such a monster play. Of course the alley oop was fantastic. Zeke's three was awesome too. I loved the replay where they showed him before the inbound... he gave a bit of a smirk and called for the ball. He knew he was going to shoot that 3. I loved it. A couple big plays are the difference in a game like that and we made them last night. Loved the effort by these guys.
johnnyzip84
Congrats to Akron. Not that your typical post deserves much of a reply, but does this phrasing strike anyone else as being particularly odd coming from a supposed fan of the Zips? ZipGB8
Fatigue may be a factor in this game tonight, especially after seeing how energized OU was in their game. They won that game in the first 10 minutes by making 3's and open shots quickly. They ran the fast break well against a slower WMU team, who doesn't fast break a lot. Ritchie and Hucheson were probably the quickest out there. For the Zips to win: We can't have 17 turnovers. We can't shoot 13-29 from the line again. We can't have those media timeouts messing up our rhythm. The MAC refs can't be inconsistent and call ticky tack fouls. Some of them keep thinking that the 10,000 fans are there to see them. We have to defend the perimeter well and fight threw screens like there's no tomorrow. Dambrot needs to stop taking out Zeke when the other team is trying to make a run. Walsh and Harney need to step it up offensively. Walsh has not had a good shooting game since the game at Miami in my opinion. Dambrot needs to out coach Christian on the defensive end like he did in the game at OU. Contain Cooper in the half court when he's driving tot he basket. Make OU work the shot clock more. On a side note, I do want to say that Dambrot needs to rest Zeke and Tree for at least 10 minutes I would say, but Forsythe has to stop looking out of sorts on offensive, such as putting the ball on the floor in the middle of the lane and giving the help side all the time in the world to help out. And also Kretzer needs to stop it with those cross court passes and let people come to the ball. Both him and Pat were the reason for at least 4 of those 17 turnovers last night. You would never guess blue & gold are the colors for both schools. I don't really care for the whites & silver. The black looks wrong on Can't too but who cares about them. I thought exactly the same thing when I saw that comment. It's phrased the way a fan would post on another team's forum, mildly acknowledging the other team's accomplishment. It's consistent with previous posts that only occasionally express mild acknowledgement of anything positive but almost exclusively dwell on the negative. Very odd pattern for a Zips fan. originalrowdy
He's joked that he's an OU fan before. Yeah. When he posted that, the second sentence assumed OU would win because that game hadn't even started yet. (granted, a fair assumption, but under the circumstances...) hmmmm
