Dave in Green
OU was going to cause problems for our PG situation, too. VCU will try to exploit the Zips' weaknesses, and the Zips will return the favor. I always hate it when two good mid-majors are matched up in the first round. Districtballer
OU was going to cause problems for our PG situation, too. VCU will try to exploit the Zips' weaknesses, and the Zips will return the favor. I always hate it when two good mid-majors are matched up in the first round. OU is not VCU. Not by a longshot. That said, I agree, you're going to give us all we can handle and can beat us. Few coaches know us as well as Keith Dambrot. We were lucky to win at your place last year. This sucks so much. If we lose, I'll hate it as a VCU fan, if we win, I'll still hate it as an Akron fan. Fully agree about matching up good mids in the first round. We were on the other end of this last year as a 12-seed playing 5-seed Wichita State in the first round. We can very easily lose this game with the athletes, talent, and experience against VCU that Akron already has. Dammit.
The Hip Zip
Ohio's guards play in slow motion compared to VCU's
Dave in Green
I'm well aware that VCU has more athletic, better coached players than OU, and that this will be a far more difficult matchup. But there are counters to everything, and the best coaches are good at finding ways to at least partially offset the strengths of their opponents. I have confidence that Coach Dambrot will come up with a counter to at least partially offset the effectiveness of Havoc, and that the Zips players will effectively execute his game plan. It will be a really tough game with lots of ups and downs, and the Zips will be huge underdogs. Losers believe they're going to lose and winners believe they're going to win. I know what this Zips team believes. By the way, for anyone who's not familiar with Havoc, there's a good detailed description in this SI story. akronzips71
I watched the end of the Wisconsin/OSU game today. With around 2.5 minutes left, OSU was up FOUR points. And what did Wisconsin, the taller team do? Kept forcing threes, none of which went in. Never scored another field goal. Now, we have been in that same situation on both sides. With that much time , no need to shoot threes. Work the ball inside and go for the high percent shot and/or the foul. The point is, Wisconsin #22 big time team, coach screwed the pooch. Nothing is over until it is over. Nothing is decided until it is over.

zippy5
MTSU definitely had the in your face/pressure defense, but was it full court?
