UAZip0510
Interesting note to think of as we celebrate tonight...our two main rivals and biggest competitors in the MAC will be losing some major pieces to graduation: Ohio - Loses DJ Cooper, Walter Offutt, Reggie Keely, Ivo Baltic Can't State - Loses Chris Evans and Randal Holt Obviously we lose some big pieces too - Zeke, Walsh, and Gilliam - but I think we have much more talent coming back than either one. This run might just be getting started...
jem101
From the Bobkitty board Get used to seeing Akron cut down the nets. Best coach and best recruiter in the league. 7 straight trips to the MACC is ridiculous. They dont rebuild, they reload. Same again next year. Treadwell has a good chance to be MAC POY. He was the best athlete on the court tonight.
UAZip0510
From the Bobkitty board I saw that one too...also love the discussion of firing Christian already
akzipper
Sometimes it's frustrating not having that "go-to" star, but it certainly works in our favor. It allows us to retool not rebuild. Of course you can't replace a guy like Zeke or Tree, but I think KD can bring in solid players to place into the system. In turn I think it helps sustain success. Hopefully the same will happen with the incoming recruits. Obviously the arena situation needs to be resolved, but that's been covered extensively. I read their board for this first time today, and don't have an interest returning. Love how UA isn't a "real University" and we rely on non-qualifiers. PB1719
It is amazing, every year I think there is going to be a drop off with players leaving, but KD has a great eye for talent. I am always impressed with how the underclassmen assume critical roles within our system. Something tells me that we're just beginning our ascent to becoming a major player in college hoops. That is if we can get the funding to build a proper venue for the high profile recruits that we will be looking at in a few years.

akzipper
Check out the . He says that he is convinced that we have all the pieces to take this program to the next level(including funding). I watched it earlier and waited for him to drop a hint about an arena. Unfortunately I don't think he mentioned it, but it is the "elephant in the room". UA definitely needs to do everything they can to keep him in place. My wish is that the 5000+ crowds will carry over to next season and that will send a message that something needs to be done. Football and soccer coaches will come and go, but there's only one Dambrot. An Akron guy who seems like he wants to be here for the rest of his career. Obviously he can leave, but I'd hope that's not the case.
ksu sucks
Unfortunately I don't think he mentioned it, but it is the "elephant in the room". LOL. You are something else. I like the JAR. We sold it out multiple times this season, and the energy in the JAR is as good as anywhere else in the MAC.
akronzips71
Another interesting thing is that the coaches and players in the MAC were ready to breathe a sigh of relief. Done with Zeke forever. Gone from the MAC. The other elephant in the room is that there are two more years of Tree. Oops.

I've said this on this board for years. Stop all the crap about "provide more comfortable seating, and more people will start coming". JUST PACK THE ARENA. Then, it can be viewed as a necessity that we need more seating. That's the factor that is going to matter most in terms of whether this happens sooner vs. later. I can't even count the number of times I stood outside along with 5000+ other fans in sub-freezing weather to watch the soccer team. Making excuses about seating and concessions has gotten old. Obviously it can be improved, but people go to games to watch the team win. If they cared about comfort/food they would stay home and watch on the couch. I don't know if there's a such thing as "attendance momentum" but I sure hope fans keep showing up.

And there would be no greater force than basketball fans showing that the facility is now simply just too small to accommodate the demand for tickets. Remember the other thing I've always said: AGE could be a big factor as well. But, the JAR is simply still too "new" to make that argument right now. And I was still a student when it was built, and I am not ready to feel old quite yet
MDZip
From the Bobkitty board And think of this - the Zips are 3-4 in the championship game including two losses by 1 and one in OT (glad this win was at the expense of the kittens for a little payback for two of those, now we just need Miami ) so with just a bit more luck Zips could be 7-1. How lucky are we to not only to have Keith but to have him be a true Akron guy? Incredible.
Quickzips
Way too early to start speculating about next year. I have my thoughts on next years MAC, but we have bigger fish to fry right now.
