Penn State will look past the Akron game. For the first time in ohh, 290 years, Getsy and co have some serious experience in high pressure games. Don't be suprised if Akron pulls off the upset of the century.Akron: 38Penn State: 31
I'd like to think it is possible but I remember thinking the same thing in '04. Granted we had a new coaching staff and new scheme but Penn St. certainly didn't look past us. I'm sorry if I'm not quite so optimistic.

I don't think we will beat Penn State, but I dont think it's an impossibility. heh. Unfortunately, even with the winning attitude the program has now under JD, I still suspect that the primary goal will be not to get hurt, first, and winning second. If you think like coaches, last thing you want is guys out for part (or all) of the season.

I think the game could be close but....38 points on the Penn State D? Do you remember how dominant their defense was last year? Granted, their run defense was more dominant than their pass defense, and the secondary is a question mark this year, but I still doubt we can just decimate their defense to the tune of 38 points. I also don't think Joe Paterno-coached teams are likely to be "looking ahead." He's been around too long to fall in to that trap.

Howdy again  . Thought you might like some info on the Mean Green since we'll be playin' this year. Here's a link to our 2006 Spring Prospectus. Last year was a down year, but we had a very young team. We're returning 17 starters ( 9 offense, 7 defense, 1 specialist) among 50 lettermen (22 offense, 26 defense, 2 specialist).http://www.meangreensports.com/ViewArticle...0&ATCLID=264881

Call me an optimist..........or declare my expectations low. But I still think we're moving forward!Points to consider1) The OOC schedule is better than i expected. I was anticipating a D1aa home game, but was surprised to see N.Tx. Sure they've fallen about as bad as the Bugs but they've also enjoyed a lot of success and exposure over the last decade. At least we didn't pull a lesser known team, say ULaf.2) Win some more games, maybe another championship, increase attendance and TV coverage will follow.3) Remeber, we've just started kicking ass! The rest of the MAC still believes it was all a fluke. Let that be our rally cry.4) They can say what they want........... Still doesn't change the fact that WE ARE :macc:Ammendum: No vibes down here in Carolina about NSC and the Amato boys yet. As they emerge I'll forward them on the this board. Really looking forward to that game.

Getsy has a knack for having big yard games when he needs them. the 06 Zips are light years ahead of the 04 team. Sorry Charlie Frye, but look for Getsy to break most of your records this year. The Penn State D will be tough. Paul Posluszny is an amazing player, but lets not forget he finished last year by tearing ligaments in his knee. He won't be in mid season form, just like the rest of the players. I think Getsy will light up Penn States secondary. I think the second half of the Motor City Bowl showed Getsy that he can make the pass over the middle, and he has more targets than just the number 1 wide reciever. The Zips will shock the nation.

Really? Who's? Ball State? 0-7 Army? Central Michigan? Ahole Miami? Not to sound neg, but we aren't anywhere just yet...............and we lost our arguably 3 best players in Jay, Dom and Biggsie.

Not to sound too "pos"..............but we're the defending MAC champions and I think we are infusing a lot more overall talent in 2006 than we're losing from 2005. Unless you're Can't, every college program loses some key seniors.

This a typical Zip football schedule and is one of the reasons that we have home attendance problems. Three of the five home games are in November when the weather can be lousy. Most fans are anxious to get out to those early games in September especially this year when they're still thinking about last year's Motor City Bowl. Then there's October which is a great month for home football games in Ohio.

I'm not the only one who thinks this is winnable?
Joe Pa has already looked past a MAC team once, in 2000, to a unproven Toledo team, and that started his downfall for the next 3-4 seasons. That won't happen again. Penn St. wins this game by a couple of TD's.

Either Akron wins, or they lose by more than two TDs. Like the Purdue game last year, where we were there until around middle of 3rd quarter, then, after a few mistakes, the air got let out in the 4th.

Penn State sucked ass in 2000.I love these MAC teams who beat a big school when they are a bad team. Ohio beat UNC in basketball, Toledo beat Penn State in football. Play those teams when they are good and see what happens.Akron beats this years Penn State team.Akron>Toledo
Using that philosophy, how come Akron dropped the ball last year at Purdue? They sucked big time!

Don't waste your time arguing with an idiot like M-B. This guy wants nothing more than for the football program to fail so he can say, "I told you they should have never fired Owens and not hired UAM." Some people love misery and he is one of them.Anyhow, I just came back in to agree with you that this schedule is not so bad. Rhoades had his hands tied as far as what he could do. It isn't his fault......and there is really no fault to assign to any current or former Athletic Department employees. Anyhow, what else could he have done. By contract, eight of the games scheduled were scheduled before he got here. Playing CMU on the road should not be a surprise because we played them at Akron last year. I'd rather play them early in the season before the weather sets in to upper central Michigan. With the exception of three months in the summer, they experience two types of weather, bad and worse. Akron wins....maybe.I see no reason why Akron can't be 3-2 after the first five games. By the way, I just looked at a press guide and while Thomas was at Akron, those schedules looked very similar to this schedule. This is even better because we tricked another D-1A team to come to Akron to play us instead of teams like Cal Poly and Howard. Nice work Mack Rhoades.Cincinnati was a game Rhoades had little to do with. Teams don't schedule games by pulling names out of a hat. This game was scheduled long ago. This game had to be scheduled early in the season so it would not conflict with the Big East and MAC schedules.A really good thing about this schedule is an OPEN date on 10-14. The Zips did not have a free week last year and I think it really hurt them mid season. If you all remember, Getsy had a sprained thumb during the CMU game and I think a week off would have helped him to get healthy and prevented us from watching some bad QB play mid season last year. After the OPEN date, they play Miami. Perfect timing. We get to play a divisional team at home a week after a week off. The odds of a Zips win just skyrocketed. Akron wins.I love the fact that we are playing Toledo. This game also should not be a surprise. Toledo is a top notch team and we should be playing them. Who else would you want to play......Eastern Michigan :zzz: , NIU.......Again  , Ball State.....Again  ? I'm not one bit scared to play Toledo. I also like playing them at the Glass Bowl. The Glass Bowl is the best place to see a game in the MAC and they draw great crowds. To be the best, you have to beat the best....this is our chance. By the way, I heard from someone at the Athletic Department during the NIT when there was still a certain employee employed at Akron that they were going to play at Toledo. To say that this game would have never happened is just being intellectually dishonest. Toss up, but a great game to watch. Then two games at home to get us into the championship run, BGSU and Buffalo. Both teams will be bad next year. Akron wins both. Then OU on the road, another bad team. Akron wins.WMU at home, another bad team Akron beats to sure up the MAC East.Zips worst case, Akron goes 6-2 in the MAC and still ends up in the MACC. I really see this as a 7-1 MAC season. What other MAC East school is going to have six conference wins and wins over Akron, the best team in the MAC? See everyone in Detroit. :macc:

Because, Akron sucked ass to start last year. Go back to dreaming about your glory days of beating a crappy Penn State team. Akron looks to the future, school like Toledo and Ohio live in the past.

I agree with you that the only games that we might loose are miami and Toledo !Our only competitor for the MAC east title is Miami. Ohio, buffalo, BG and Can't they are all bad teams. Unless we screw up big time (which we did last year with army), i can't see anything worse than 6-2 MAC.
