The thing that sticks out to me is the nice distribution of players based upon their class. A lot of players were lost during the Coach I years. A little light on freshmen, but they don't have three years to turn things around. Good job of filling experience in with JUCO players.

Looking the over roster, here are the changes that I can see compared to the roster from last season:

Missing (using last year's class designation):

Fr. QB Daniel Harding

Jr. WR Dylan Potts

Fr. WR Wade Edwards

Jr. WR Nolan Procter

So. S Joseph Peticca

RFr. LB Adammichael Gesell

Fr. OL Jack Ziltz

Added (using this year's class designation):

Jr. RB Rayshawn Walton

Sr. DE C.J. James

Jr. LB Ben Karam

The incoming freshmen aren't included on this list, are they? I many true freshmen on here.

It's great to finally get some information for the upcoming season. A couple of points come to mind:

1) Ben Karam has been with the team for at least a year.

2) William Houst currently goes by William Lee and played in a junior college out west last year instead of enrolling here, so it's unlikely he is headed to UA.

3) An unsung, but pretty important, position on any football is the long-snapper. Lost amidst the losing of the last four years is the fact that the Zips had a very good long-snapper in Adam Steiner during those years. I don't se a single long-snapper identified on the spring roster. I'm sure the staff has someone in mind and that's a position I'll be keeping an eye on over the summer and into the fall.

There is, however, plenty which with to work in Pohl possesses a lively arm and he has the ability to extend plays with his scrambling ability while making sizeable gains with his legs. The latter may not be what Bowden cherishes most in a quarterback, but it’s an asset nonetheless.

The primary problem with the Zips offensive line wasn’t the front line players; it was a lack of depth. O-line coach Alan Arrington struggled to come up with eight linemen to open the season, this year there may be more talent from which to choose, making things easier.

I think this point was made last year by a couple of astute ZN members.

Lack of a playmaker: For anyone being realistic, the one thing that the Zips lacked at least one homerun hitter. In Bowden’s offense that’s close to death. Just one player with the ability to break one big is essential in keeping the opponent’s defense honest. That ability didn’t come from the offense, or special teams. There were a couple of big plays, but they were few and far between. Players such as wide receivers Tyrell Goodman and Imani Davis, both sophomores now, possess the speed, but not the experience.

For Zipgrad01:

Lastly, Jamel Turner, the former four-star recruit of the Ohio State Buckeyes, could take a huge leap forward this year now that he’s acclimated.

Per GoZips.com:

• Former Zips QB Dalton Williams and former LB Troy Gilmer are both working with the team in a student assistant role this spring

• Today was the first of 15 practices leading up to the annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. ET at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field. The squad will take to the field on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday throughout the month.

Day 2 breakdown from George Thomas.

Were anyone to look for a standout today, they just needed to cast an eye in the direction of defensive end Alfonso Horner, who generated a consistent pass rush.
That's impressive for a guy listed on GoZips.com as being 200 pounds. Even if it's an older weight and he put on 12 pounds.

On the April 4th video, I really appreciate how coach Bowden gives you real information. I hate listening to a series of cliches.

Practice Open on Saturday (per video), half scrimmage on the field (weather permitting).

Alfonso Horner holds the Belen Jesuit 100 meter dash record at 10.73 seconds.

Sounds really fast...but how fast, Track & Field gurus?

Denard Robinson ran a 10.44 in high school.

In my sprinter ignorant mind, sounds like Alfonso has some incredible speed for a defensive end?

The HS record in Ohio is 10.38, so that's seems plenty fast to me for a DE :thumb: He clearly showed great closing speed behind the line of scrimmage a few times last year. JT was a pretty light DE when he was a freshmen.

On a side note, I saw a lot of Ravenna's DJ Jones handling the rock in today's video. That should answer a few questions posed by the poster who asked about him several times since last season. He looks like he might have that knack some shorter RBs have to hide behind linemen and "pop" to daylight.
