Dr Z Posted April 23, 2013 Report Posted April 23, 2013 This is from a recent email from Alison Bertin. We have recently announced a new package exclusively for ‘Recent Alumni’ (defined as alumni who earned their first Akron degree from 2008-2013). This package includes season tickets to all ticketed sports (Football, Men and Women’s Basketball, Men and Women’s Soccer, Volleyball). This package is just $175 (valued at $505). Our goal is to bring as many recent alumni back to cheer on the Zips. If you know of someone that could use this package, please send them my contact information or purchase one for a recent graduate as a gift! Zip_ME87 Posted April 23, 2013 Report Posted April 23, 2013 Nice idea in that 'recent alumni' are just starting their careers and probably have less discretionary money to spend. However, retired alumni living close by are probably the group who would have the most time to spend attending all of these events. This is from a recent email from Alison Bertin. GP1 Posted April 23, 2013 Report Posted April 23, 2013 Would a special parking pass make sense? For example, the people buying these tickets purchase a parking pass at rate X for the events. This parking pass allows them access to parking lots (insert selected lots here) after five o'clock for one year whether or not there is a sporting event they have tickets. If the goal is to keep these people close to campus for various events or to even enjoy the nightlife, this could work out well. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted April 23, 2013 Report Posted April 23, 2013 A great idea. Catering to retirees and an already-established aging alumni base at the cost of alienating younger alumni sets up major problems down the road. That very thing has been happening for years now, but this is a good step towards rectifying the situation. I also like the idea of special parking passes or an exclusive parking lot. Put them together and encourage tailgating. Quote

gozips19 Posted April 28, 2013 Report Posted April 28, 2013 The university has had this in the past. When I first got my season tickets for football I got a young alumni discount for the first two years. That was the main reason I went with reserved seating. Like that they are promoting it a little more. This is a way to keep young alum involved with the school. Quote

This is a very good idea GP1 Football games are often on saturdays, when the student lots are mostly empty. Though there aren't a lot of student lots closer than the parking garages, it would still be nice. Basketball games are at night, when students parking is definitely not in it's peak demand. A parking pass would be an tempting buy even for alumni who only get to several games per year. Might even encourage them to come more often if it was in their mind they could park closer to the venue. Seems strange to think that such a thing would influence these decisions, but I contend it just might Quote
