Q Is Back!

Recommended Posts

Excellent article by George Thomas.

IMO ... Quincy should be the starting shooting guard. He is far too valuable to take the sixth man role this year.

Hopefully Diggs will show the leadership this season's Zips need. Actually, I am positive Quincy can fill that role.

After watching and meeting the freshmen today I can state that Zips fans will be exceptionally pleased at the maturity

and skills these young men possess.

Do not forget that Quincy has the talent to run the point. It is not his natural position; but, he is so skilled that he does

not give up anything when he is called on to play on the point.

NBC Sports gets it a little wrong, seeing Q as more of a frontcourt than backcourt player. The reporter, Raphielle Johnson, appears to have modest knowledge of Zips personnel. But I appreciate the attention to Zips basketball. :)

Link.

Mz. Johnson really does not have much of a grip on Zips talent.

At six-six Quincy is far too short to be playing the post or power forward. The front court consists of six-eight Demetrius

Treadwell at power forward. His back up is six-seven, college game experienced, true sophomore Jake Kretzer.

Akron's post players are likely to be six-eleven, sophomore Pat Forsythe backed up by incoming Freshman, six-nine Isiah

Johnson or six-ten Freshman Kwan Cheatham.

All of these players are taller and bulkier than Quincy. Diggs looks to be the starting shooting guard. He has quicks, skills,

experience, drive to basket, ball handling skills, leadership and athleticism to command the two guard position. He is most

ably backed up by experienced, true sophomore, Reggie McAdams; who like Diggs is six-six, athletic and a skilled shooter.

The Zips are most definitely "thinking bigger".

@GoZips, don't go trying to sneak a bogus number by me. :D McAdams is listed at 6-7, not 6-6. In my mind, Q is a college wing. He can play both the 2 and 3 positions almost equally well, and can also serve as a reasonable backup at the 1 spot. The most important point is that he is flexible enough to fill whatever role the Zips most need. For the coming season, I think there's general agreement that the team's greater need is for Q to fill the hole left by the loss of the Zips' starting 2 (Brian Walsh). But if the dire situation should arise that Melo and Nyles Evans can't adequately handle the point, it's especially good to have Q standing ready to bail the Zips out of a bad situation.

Dambrot once told Q that he had NBA potential, if only he could get his head on straight. Q needs to come out and just blow everyone away. Take over games. Become the team's vocal and emotional leader. Am I correct in thinking that he is the team's only senior this season?

Yes, coach Dambrot was on 1350 this week and mentioned to Dunn that he is the only senior. It's weird to think about, but it's still a very young team.
