Dr Z Posted July 30, 2013 Report Posted July 30, 2013 Nice find Roo. I always have an issue (from the article headline) with the phrase "odds from Vegas." Where in Vegas? Here are real odds you can bet on today. From sportsbook dot ag. Quote

I’m not about to bet the farm on the Zips at 50:1 But don’t you have to wonder how different some of these “relative predictions” look in comparison to the MAC media poll? Old EA and the like don’t have any money riding on their decisions. Two things jump out: 1. I like the quality of the athletes Clawson has been assembling at BG. So does “Vegas”. 2. I also think “Vegas” might be sniffing a mild Zip turnaround in 2013. And I think they’re onto something. Quote

That shows some optimism from the prognosticators. It's also entertaining to see that Can't State likely won't continue their "one hit wonder" success. I think we will soon find that 2012 will be regarded as their new 1972. Quote

K92 Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 The pre-season poll is out. The Zips reported for camp today. I think the time has come... Quote

LZIp Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 Nobody can accuse GT of a homer pick in his MAC predictions. Is Jerrod going by "J.D." now? Also, I took that as GT using other people's predictions and just giving a little writeup on each team. Quote
MDZip Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 And Elton Alexander takes Buffalo in the East and Ball State in the West. He takes the Zips for fifth (ahead of Miami and UMass). Could be a wide open year this year. Can the Zips pull a Miami worst to first? I don't think anyone in the East is going undefeated and we might have actually caught a break in not drawing the Bulls. 35 hours to go to start to find out. Quote

I think we will soon find that 2012 will be regarded as their new 1972. I don't think most people understand how "Vegas" works. They don't think the Zips are 50/1 or 75/1 or whatever, they think the average gambler is thinking close to that. They're not trying to accurately predict anything, they're trying to get you to think you know better and bet your money. Point spreads are the same - they're not a guess on the outcome, they're a guess on how to get even money on both sides. I guess my point is don't get worked up about Vegas. The Zips need to show well on the field and hopefully pull off an upset. Quote
