GP1 Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 So, didn't get to follow the game yesterday, so I was reading about it on the internet. Did we put a QB in the game who got injured celebrating and then couldn't return to the game? When I was growing up, I never read a story of a player getting hurt celebrating. It seems now, we can't go a week without reading a story about a player getting hurt celebrating. If this had happened to a player when I was growing up, that player would have been subjected to so much ridicule from every angle, nobody around the country would get hurt like that again...but it seems to go on...Our society has gone from ridiculing idiots to feeling sorry that they were injured. Here is what I really want to happen. The "Celebration King", Hirschman, should be ridiculed in front of the entire team today for being so stupid he gets hurt celebrating. Unfortunately, what used to be common sense, is now a coaching point. The coaches will now have to take a small amount of time out of their limited time with the players to discuss this issue. Please stop hurting yourselves celebrating. It's hard enough to win a game, let along having key players get injured celebrating. Just freaking stop already! Quote

LZIp Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Im sure their goal is to actually hurt themselves celebrating. Quote
GP1 Posted September 8, 2013 Author Report Posted September 8, 2013 Im sure their goal is to actually hurt themselves celebrating. It's such a stupid thing to put yourself at risk doing, it makes your statement seem true. As foolish as it sounds, someone who hurts himself celebrating, in some way, may be trying to hurt himself and the coaches have to discuss it with players to protect them from themselves. Quote
GoZips Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Celebrating? That does not really bother me. What gets my goat are all the foolish penalties for having the helmet come off because insert idiot's name thinks its cool to not buckle up the brain bucket. Up to me, every time the player allows this to happen they can count on "running the steps" at the end of the next practice. Cures that nonsense. Quote
Dave in Green Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 I saw Hirschman limp slowly off the field after being leveled by a JMU player. I assumed that this is where his knee was hurt. I haven't read anything about him hurting his knee celebrating. Is there any validity to this or is this just another bogus internet scam? Quote

I didn't get to watch the replay but I seem to remember him gimping right after he made the throw (from where he made it) and saw that it was caught. It wasn't like he was in a dog pile in the end zone celebrating. I thought maybe he had twisted his knee or ankle while hoisting the long pass. Maybe someone will watch the replay and let us know. Dave in Green Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 @GP1, thanks for that info. Thinking back a little more carefully, it was the hit on Pohl (not Hirschman) causing him to limp off the field I was remembering. I do not recall seeing how Hirschman was hurt. Quote
Dr Z Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 I do not recall seeing* how Hirschman was hurt.Hirschman received plenty of help from teammates. Andrew Pratt (Green), grabbed a 68-yard touchdown pass on a fly pattern down the left side of the field where he made a tremendous adjustment to go up and get the ball. Hirschman injured his knee celebrating that effort, necessitating that Pohl, whose mobility was limited, return with his team trailing 24-21 after a James Madison field goal. source *Maybe you had tears of joy effecting your vision from the Andrew Pratt (Green) TD. PS I think the same thing happen when you grew up GP1, but there was no internet, twitter, Facebook, etc. If we didn't see it with our own eyes, or the one local newspaper writer didn't catch it, we never knew about it. I'm okay with a QB celebrating a long TD pass anyway he wants as long as he doesn't get a flag thrown on him doing it. I hope he tweaks his knee 35 more times this year celebrating the same type of TD pass. Quote
Dave in Green Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 @Dr Z, I almost injured my knee jumping up and down when Pratt went high in the air to snag that pass for the TD. I was so focused on the receiver that I never looked back at the line of scrimmage, which was a long, long way from the end zone. Quote
Dave in Green Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 The updated description of how Hirschman injured his knee is a lot less damning than the original: The problem is Hirschman injured his knee, running down the field to congratulate his teammate. Nothing at all wrong with that, and a reminder that it doesn't pay to jump to conclusions based on preliminary reports. Quote

So, let me get this straight. He was running a straight line and hurt his knee while running.?.? Hmmmm.... It sounds like something that almost never happens, especially to a highly trained college athlete. Did his foot fall into a sink hole or something? Did he get his foot suck in a gopher hole, or some other type of animal hole? Was he tripped up by an invisible beam of light generated by an experiment being run in the Physics Department? Does he have a history of knee injuries that would have resulted in this type of injury? George Thomas, when they told you he hurt himself running, was it hard to hold the laughter back? Quote

legendofzippy Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Along these lines, I hate when players jump on a guys back to celebrate a big play. There have been numerous injuries caused by this too. Quote
ZippyRulz Posted September 11, 2013 Report Posted September 11, 2013 Watching the replay, it was an awkward, backpedaling pass off his back (right) foot with a JMU player coming hard. The replay doesn't show him running down the field after the throw but TB confirmed in his post-game interview that's how/when he injured the leg. Quote
