Z.I.P. Posted September 15, 2013 Report Posted September 15, 2013 I will be talking with Bob Huggins Monday noonish. Any questions you want me to ask him? Whatever happened to Bob Huggins, anyway? Has he seen my friend Coleman lately? Quote
ZachTheZip Posted September 16, 2013 Report Posted September 16, 2013 Could he maybe lend us a spare point guard? How glad is he that WVU escaped to the Big 12 and didn't get stuck in the AAC? Quote
Dave in Green Posted September 16, 2013 Report Posted September 16, 2013 Ask Coach Huggins if he has heard anything since the last time he made a public appearance in Dayton to change his opinion on Pat Forsythe's work ethic. Quote
Buckzip Posted September 16, 2013 Report Posted September 16, 2013 Ask him if he can get any extra elegibilty for Eric McClaughlin and Anthony Buford. Quote
Zipmeister Posted September 16, 2013 Author Report Posted September 16, 2013 Could he maybe lend us a spare point guard? How glad is he that WVU escaped to the Big 12 and didn't get stuck in the AAC? Turns out, he isn't real pleased that they are in the B12, but recognizes that they had no choice at the time. Hates that their closest conference away game is 863 miles away. Thinks if they hadn't jumped to the Big12 that they would be in the ACC by now. Mentioned that all parties involved signed a 10 year no out contract so they will remain in the Big12 for at least that long. I also asked him if he would be willing to play Akron again. He said all KD has to do is call. Asked what were the odds he would play a game in Akron; answer, "slim to none." He says they make $200K-$250K per home game which they can't afford to lose. So, I asked if Akron could provide a $250K guarantee would they show up; answer "yes." So I guess we can pencil that game in. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted September 16, 2013 Report Posted September 16, 2013 Very interesting. Thanks for asking. I have my doubts that WVU would be in the ACC by now. They might have just been stuck in the same situation as UConn and Cincinnati. I would love to play WVU again. Quote
taxpayer Posted September 17, 2013 Report Posted September 17, 2013 Zipmeister - you asked good questions and received some interesting responses. Impressive to me that WVU nets $250,000 per home game; this provides us with a little more insight into why the bigger programs do not wish to come to the JAR. If the "net" at home is that much and the chance of getting beat by a mid major is possible, it's easy to see why we play who we play at home. Even at $200,000 net per home game x 18 home games = $3,600,000. That's double the Zips bball budget! I guess that's why preseason and holiday tournaments are so important for us; it's the ONLY way the Zips have a shot at playing with the big boys; at least until the NCAA Tournament. If the Zips return to Morgantown again what type of financial inducement do they receive? Like always......it's all about the money! Quote
Dave in Green Posted September 17, 2013 Report Posted September 17, 2013 @Zipmeister, I'm disappointed that you didn't get a chance to ask Bob about Pat Forsythe this year as you did at last year's Dayton Agonis Club appearance. It's OK, though. I've spoken with another person who has known Bob for many years, and he reports that Pat is responding well to Big Dog's presence. At one point it appeared that Pat was a lock to get most of the playing time at center this season. But Big Dog is pushing Pat hard in practice, which is a big motivation for Pat that has really helped bring out the best in his work ethic. I'm sure that Bob would be pleased to see one of his ex-players do well at UA. Quote
