fknbuflobo Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Those Inglorious Basterds once again invade FE/CC on S/10/5/2013. Hartwick is one of the oldest and storied soccer programs in the land. I remember training to the Hartwick system as a lad. Sadly, under Coach John Scott, Hartwick has sunk to the level of common thuggery. They have no technique, no tactics, and little interest in the beautiful game. But what they do have is a bunch of stout fellows who run fast and tackle hard - very hard. Hartwick would just as soon clatter your ankles as shake your hand. Zips be warned! Watch for the counter on a wet pitch, and wear the heavy shin-guards. http://gozips.com/sports/msoc/2013-14/rele.../20131004e7t3t8 Quote
LZIp Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 Solid outing tonight Zips. Hard for me to support the new coach when we are losing freaking conference games. Quote
bigzipguy Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 Just can't FINISH ON THEIR SHOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
GoZips Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 A team plays with the same passion they see in their coach. In Embick even the pilot light is out. Complete foolishness if this man coaches another season, if he does not improve now. Perhaps a soccer stadium peppered with "Fire Embick" signs would provide a bit of motivation. Embarrassed and ashamed. Quote
Ando Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 yesterday was pretty shit but firing embick for it is an obviously dumb idea Quote
TennZip Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 Where was Aodhan Quinn last night? Quote
Ando Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 He hasn't played in a number of games, I think he's injured Quote
AkronZip54321 Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 I wanted a big name (masseinauve (sp?), Reyna, etc) when this job became available. Some people have assistant coaching personalities some have head coaching personalities. The mystique of Akron soccer is already falling way off. Look at the hill behind the goal. Hardly anyone there. It's only going to get worse I'd imagine. Porters first full recruiting class (ignoring the year he was hired in the winter) included Ampai, Blair Gavin, Nanchoff, and some Zakuani guy. If Embick wants to be sustaining Akron soccer standards he better make sure his class he brings in next year measures up to what Porter did for so many years. Quote

Claudio Reyna left he position as Youth Technical Director of US Soccer to be the first Director of Football Operations for the MLS expansion New York City FC, which is owned by Manchester City FC and the NY Yankees. The idea that he was going to leave that position with US soccer to come coach a college soccer team was always crazy then and is even crazier now. I was also interested in the prospect of looking at some high profile candidates in the college soccer world though and was skeptical when Embick was handed the reigns. We were never going to find another Porter, but as someone mentioned above, there is a difference between a head coach and an assistant, and maybe Jared is an assistant. Either way, still kinda early to pass judgement on Embick. Though I will say, in this scenario, I'm not really in the "there is always an adjustment period for a new coach" camp, because the whole grounds for promoting Embick that was presented to the fans was that there would be almost no drop off. Maybe that was an unrealistic expectation to have. Hope it all works out though, because it can't be undone, there was only one perfect chance to hire whoever we wanted (within reason) and if Jared is a flop, then that chance is probably gone. Quote
Crew8 Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 I'm quite disappointed with the loss to Hartwick. I just want to vent to you Akronites. On another note, someone please tell @zipsmsoc on twitter to quit mentioning number of shots 10 times a game. the stat means nothing if you can't place one in the net. they seem to have illusions this warrants a win or something. I've missed to many games this season, but by what I've seen and read, this squad is in desperate need of a threat up top. The answer is not Brenes and never should have been considered to carry the load. Embick is a quality coach, but the one thing that worried me about him was if he could bring out the very best in our players. Very few coaches can succeed in bringing passion and heart to their players and now you see why Porter is one of the best you'll never see again in Akron. I will be there in Cleveland this Wednesday vs CSU. Drinks on me. Go Zips! Quote

TennZip Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 Wasn't sure where to mention it but according to Ismail Seremba on twitter he has a potentially torn ACL tough break for a young man a long way from home. Best wishes for this young man Quote
fknbuflobo Posted October 8, 2013 Author Report Posted October 8, 2013 Wasn't sure where to mention it but according to Ismail Seremba on twitter he has a potentially torn ACL That is terrible news. Best of luck to a charming kid. The challenge was unnecessarily reckless on his part. A young man trying to make a play, but he really sold out for the ball when his prospects were mostly speculative. Hard luck. I feel really bad for the guy and hope for his speedy recovery. Quote
