Don't miss them they weren't a good fit, but I'll bet the every other year trip there late in the season was a welcome break for the players. The MAC is horrible, barely worth even playing these teams. The MAC has always been bad, mediocre at best, but this season may be the historical worst. The ONLY thing the MAC can offer us (in MSOC) is an automatic bid to NCAA Tourney. That is it! Should we be fortunate enough to, you know, like, actually score a goal vs. NIU, and beat them at home, our RPI will still go down. Meanwhile, the ACC and Big East teams, even the average ones, do not worry about 3 losses during the non-con beginning of their schedule. As soon as they start playing within their respective conferences, their RPIs syrocket. And so it goes. Akron needs to either join the Big East or recruit Xavier and Cincinnati to the MAC. Or something.
bigzipguy
fknbuflobo, Leaving the MAC only for soccer is highly unlikely, due to the fact that the MAC would state that we must leave in all sports.

Yeah. There are many reasons more than just soccer to leave the MAC, but only if the destination is a high profile, well-rounded conference such is the Big East. No reason to leave the MAC for, say, Conference USA. The obvious problem with that idea is that our Football is so bad, no other conference but the MAC will take us. Seriously. Joining the Big East has definitely been discussed, among others.
Ando
as a lifelong pitt fan, the idea that the big east = high profile is a little hmmm to be fair it's still bigger than the MAC

Right? I do not think Akron could ever get into the ACC or the B1G.
Dave in Green
I was just going to post and say that I must be turning into a soccer fan because I'm really developing an appreciation for the way the Zips work together passing the ball and controlling the flow of the game, but I wish they would score. Bingo! Just as I was about to leave the streaming video to post, Najem nails one at 11:25 of the 1st half. More of that, please! And as I post this, NIU ties it 1-1. TennZip
I sure hope that Reinaldo and Aodhan can both get healthy before the MAC tourney. without both of them, Seremba's season ending injury is even more traumatic Zips XI vs. NIU: Pina (GK), Portillos, Souders, Cross, Gallego, Souto, Najem, Foldesy, Derschang, Stevenson, Abdul-Salaam. UAZipster0305
The possession play of this team is impressive; however, the lack of competency in final third is staggering. One shot on goal through 60 minutes of play with this amount of possession is inexcusable. Injuries up top have really been unfortunate. I love Frenchy and Simon announcing. UAZipster0305
Great turn and shot by Najem. Now we're rollin'! Good save by the NIU goalie.

fknbuflobo
Zips really turn up the offensive pressure during the 2nd half. THis was a much needed win vs. conference foe. #7 NIU is a handful.
