I was able to check out the hotel situation first hand this week in State College and here is what I found out.First, there is no hope for anyone getting a one night stay if you book at this time. Every hotel requires two nights and they are booking at their maximum rate. For example, the Residence Inn is booking at $299.00 per night plus tax.A piece of advice the manager told me was to wait until the week of the game and try to get one night then if that is what you want. Right not they are not filled up for the Akron game and sales are slow. This is a risky chance, but if you want only one night, you will have to take it.A second piece of advice he gave me was to not book a room and get to town in the morning and stop in to see if anyone checked out after Friday night. Since Residence Inn houses people who typically stay for long periods, it is not uncommon for people to check out on Saturday when their work in town is complete. Again, this is also risky because you may still be making a to and from trip that day.I would wait to see what the University offers in the way of a group trip. This may be your best option.

I highly doubt the University will offer anything but a 1-day bus trip to State College. No hotels will be had via the University. The last PSU/Akron game I checked ahead of time exhaustively for single-night stays. There were none to be found. However, when we rolled into town, there were some vacancy signs in a few hotel windows.I may bite the bullet and pay for the 2-night stay somewhere. Tough call....

I never been to PSU, so i might be missing something ! However, I don't exactly understand the urgent need for a hotel in college park. I mean if i am driving overthere, i won't mind staying in a hotel that is 30 minutes drive from the place to save myself paying for 2 nights at maximum rate.

The atmosphere is worth staying in state college. There are some places outside state college to stay but there is not an over abundance of them. They may not require 2 night stays but they will sometimes fill up.
