Devan Ahart

Former Akron center fielder Devan Ahart was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 16th round of the Major League Baseball draft. He has since decided to forego his season season and sign with the Dodgers. LA has assigned him to one of their rookie league minor league teams.

Devan is making his professional debut tonight in the season opener for the Ogden Raptors. He is starting and batting leadoff. As I type this he is currently 1 for 3 with a single, a run scored, and two stolen bases. That's not too shabby of a start.

Although I am disappointed that he is no longer a Zip, I wish Devan all the best and hopefully he will represent the Zips program in the majors someday.

Stinks he's no longer a Zip, but trust me, sending guys to the majors will bring a lot more Devin Aharts to the program.

I wish I could trust you, but in this case you are just wrong; unless by "a lot" you mean once in a blue moon - then yeah I'm with you.

I'm not sure if this is a Zipmeister joke or if you're actually disagreeing. There's a fair amount of players that got drafted from the area.. Not sure why they can't be Zips in the future with some more success.

If the individuals who were drafted elected to pursue a professional baseball career I believe they forfeit collegiate baseball eligibility although this would not prevent them from attending the university (and even participating in another varsity sport) so I guess they could become Zips.

P.S. I'm wholeheartedly disagreeing with you.

After a three hit three RBI night on July 19, Devan Ahart is now batting .366 for Ogden with 12 RBI in his first 26 games. His OPS is .912, hopefully this is a god start to a long professional baseball career.

Devan Ahart after batting .358 for the Ogden Raptors, the rookie league affiliate of the Dodgers, has officially been promoted to the single-A Great Lakes Loons. The Loons are in the Midwest League and play their home games in Midland, Michigan (not far from Mt. Pleasant).

I have read some Dodgers minor league review articles that say Ahart may be having the best offensive season in the entire Dodgers minor league system. I find that very cool. Hopefully in a few years the Zips can oats one of their own gracing a major league diamond again.

Congrats on the promotion Devan, and congrats on getting to go home (from Detroit).

Also, they are in the same league as the Lake County Captains. The two teams play each other one more series this year but its in Michigan, not Ohio. Anyways, Congrats Devan!
