Although coach Terry Bowden and his staff haven’t released their first depth chart of camp, the offensive front five look to have the explosiveness and strength to challenge any of their defensive counterparts. “We’re still mixing and matching and changing guys,” offensive line coach John Peterson said. “We’re going to need more than five guys for the season, so we’re trying to create depth. That’s probably the area we’re concentrating on the biggest is to get guys game ready.” The problem is they can’t mix and match enough, at least not right now. Injuries are taking their toll as the Zips prepare for the season. “We can’t hardly get things accomplished by having too many players that are going to play but they’re not practicing. That’s been a problem,” Bowden said. Bowden preferred not to discuss the injuries in detail.

Zips fans are invited to the team’s intrasquad scrimmage beginning at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at InfoCision Stadium.

Much of the success or failure of an offensive line is familiarity and cohesion. Looks like injuries may be cutting into the development of those two elements of this group. Depth doesn't matter unless the group can play in sync with each other.

Not a lot of positive to take from the article, but there is still a long way to go between now and Week 1. Lots of time for improvement.
