Hilltopper Posted October 2, 2014 Report Posted October 2, 2014 Nate will be in NE Ohio this week as his team, Tel-Aviv Maccabi Electra, will be playing the Cavaliers in an exhibition game on Sunday At 6pm. The game will be broadcast on FSO. New Cavs coach David Blatt led Tel-Aviv to the Euro title last season. Quote
Dave in Green Posted October 2, 2014 Report Posted October 2, 2014 I see Jeremy Pargo is also on the Maccabi roster. I remember Pargo well from the Zips vs. Gonzaga NCAA tournament game out in Portland. Steve McNees probably remembers him, too. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted October 6, 2014 Report Posted October 6, 2014 Played 21 minutes, had 5 points (nailed a corner 3 and hit two FTs), 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block. Quote
Dave in Green Posted October 6, 2014 Report Posted October 6, 2014 Got to watch some of the game on TV. Nate did not look out of place playing against an NBA team. Though he didn't start, the coach obviously likes Nate's team play as only 4 of his Macabbi teammates played more minutes. His 6 rebounds were tied for most on his team. His +5 in the +/- ratings made him one of only 2 Macabbi players with a + rating for the game (one of their guards had a +1). Nate is a solid professional player. Quote
GoZips Posted October 6, 2014 Report Posted October 6, 2014 Nate visited a Zips practice on Friday. He has continued to grow taller and is now at least six-eight.He looks fit. It was a special treat for the players; old friendships renewed and new acquaintances made. Quote
Dave in Green Posted October 6, 2014 Report Posted October 6, 2014 GoZips, Nate was listed at 6-8 way back when he was still playing for the Zips. Are you sure you aren't shrinking? Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted October 6, 2014 Report Posted October 6, 2014 I also thought Nate played pretty well in the exhibition. He did some familiar things out there, like strip Haywood of the ball as Brendan was going up for and apparent dunk after a feed from LeBron. The biggest thing that struck me about Nate’s current appearance is his frame. He always looked like a giant 5th grader to me in his UA days with his relatively slight build, gangly arms and longish hair. He has obviously taken to a serious strength program, as he looks much thicker and stronger – to the point where DZ84 thought I was kidding when I identified him. It was great to see him play against LeBron (again - must have occurred informally a few times in the past at the JAR) and the rest of the Cavs! 1 Quote

Hilltopper Posted October 6, 2014 Author Report Posted October 6, 2014 Is Nate Linhart the most successful Zip professionally from the Dambrot Era? Dru Joyce has done pretty good playing in Germany.Oldenburg He just signed with a new team that plays in a better league.Braunschweig Quote
Dave in Green Posted October 6, 2014 Report Posted October 6, 2014 Jeremiah Wood has won multiple Player of the Year and MVP awards in Finland and France, and has earned the nickname "Mr. Double-Double." Romeo Travis has earned similar awards in several countries, including All-Israeli League Player of the Year. Dru Joyce has been a starting PG in Germany for years. Nate is right in that mix but has had fewer years to prove himself as a pro. He has a shot at outdoing all of them. Quote
GoZips Posted October 6, 2014 Report Posted October 6, 2014 If Nate was listed as "six-eight" in programs and media guides, chalk it up to misprints. (cough, cough) Quote
Dave in Green Posted October 7, 2014 Report Posted October 7, 2014 Nate was listed at 6-7 as a freshman at UA and has been variously listed as either 6-7 or 6-8 ever since. Not sure which is growing more, the man or the myth. Quote
Zip Watcher Posted October 7, 2014 Report Posted October 7, 2014 Prior to Nate signing with Maccabi, Nikola was the Zip playing at the highest level of pro ball, when he played in the top Spanish League last year. My understanding is that he's rehabbing an injury at the moment, so isn't on an active roster for this season yet.Seems that those 2 have climbed to the highest rungs on the ladder thus far.Go Zips Quote
