ZachTheZip
Last night, I went to the Football Media Day, and it was fun. I talked to the players, cheerleaders , and the fans. I left, thinking that the next day I would be able to read about what other people thought in the Beacon Journal, or some other semi-local newspaper. But alas! Nothing to be found. Not even a paragraph or a blurb aknowledging that there even WAS a media day. Something is wrong when Maurice Clarett's lawyer gets more coverage in an Akron newspaper than the University of Akron Football Team. AZipsCrazy
Yea I don't get it either!!! Guess they just want to beat the "dead horse" that is the Maurice Clarett saga. The Beacon Journal should just give Mike Rasor a column... he seems like the only person who can consistently cover U of Akron sports. I didn't get to make it to Media Day how was it???
ZachTheZip
At least the Canton Repository cares about the Zips. Here is their University of Akron Report.AZipsCrazy, media day was fun, but relatively unorganized. At first, all of the football players were sitting at a long table giving out autographs. After a while, they got up and started wandering around, occasionally stopping to talk to people. Around 6:00, everyone sat down and J.D. talked about the upcoming season, but I couldn't hear what he said because all of the speakers were pointed away from the crowd. When he was finished, the players mostly sat down on the field and watched a highlite reel of last season that was playing on a huge screen, and nobody seemed to know what anybody was supposed to doing. Then there was a buffet-style banquet for those who paid for a meal. That's when I left. Sorry if it sounded boring, but the event could have been a bit more exciting and organized. Still, talking to the players was pretty cool.

So far the sports editor will expand coverage of high school sports. They just don't get it. Drop him a line or call him. I doubt they can or would do a worse job of covering the University of Akron. GoZips
M. Stewart:Honestly? The one thing the LU is extremely good at is lining the bottom of a bird cage.I personally do not own a bird nor wrap dead fish. So, how do you get me back as a consumer? For me there are a couple of issues. One ... I live near the City of Akron in Wadsworth. Last time I checked Columbusis a two hour drive from Akron. But, the LU treats a certain Columbus state schoolgenerally known as the Suckeyes (I think its some kind of poisonous or useless fish)as if it were "thee" only important college sports team on the planet.ut ut aw ... please do not reach for your can of bullship. The LU was (and still is )a major contributor to the fetid minds that bleat like sheep that the Suckeyes aretheir team. What the bloody hey do you expect when the local newspaper has pamperedthose arrogant asses for the past eighty or ninety years? Kids in Akron grow up beingtaught that they are Suckeye fans. By who? By you the LU.So long as the LU continues to feature that Columbus school over its own local university in the sports pages I will continue to sell others on the idea that the LU isnot fit to read. No, I do not want equal column inches nor Cant plus Akron equals Suckeye inches.I want my local newspaper to feature the town I live in. In case you are unaware of how stupid people at the LU are ... they actually changed the newspaper's name from, get this, The Akron Beacon Journal to The Beacon Journal.Arrogant, vain, petty attempt to become a "regional" (what ever the hell that is)newspaper. Sales, of course, slumped. As a fan of the University of Akron sports I want full, solid and sometimes criticalcoverage of Zips sports. Oh, sure, by all means, wean people off of the Suckeyes.Cover Akron sports. Columbus and the Suckeyes have their own newspaper. Here's a tip. As a retired person I frequent small restaurants and coffee shops. Eventhough the Cleveland Plain Dealer costs more at the news boxes it easily out sellsYour rag. Hmmmmm.... wonder why. Cover Akron you idiots.Second point. Weed out the racist and biased columnists stories. They NEVER belong on the front page of the newspaper as a "news" story. A few months backCarl Chancellor had a bylined top of the front page article about a new abortion law.Mizz Chancellor took it upon himself to vilify the people opposed to abortion in a long, tedious rant. That crap (a polite term) belonged on the op ed page.Mizz Chancellor is a well known racist liberally biased ass who does not belong writing news stories. Sure, he is entitled to his opinions ... on the op ed page.I dislike Mizz Chancellor thanks to his writings. I strongly suggest you employanother writer to counter balance his extreme tilt to the left.Third point. Employ a full time beat writer to cover University of Akron sports.Use the wire services to cover Ohio State. You will save money and increase yourcirculation. Only dead heads and old people are Suckeye fans. I am neither.Frankly, I woill be amazed if you actually read this far and I get an intelligent reply. At least the Internet crowd of Zips fans will get to enjoy one of their own respondingto your call to speak up.I remain the Midnight Skulker, er, GoZips
Blue & Gold
Great reply GoZips! I clicked the link UADavid supplied and sent a reply. It read, and I quote, "In one sentence, we need to dramatically increase coverageof The University of AKRON football and basketball programs. Thank you."I dream of the day The Akron Beacon Journal will be a paper for Akron!
ZachTheZip
GoZips... :bow:You are my hero.If they respond to you, please put their (most likely) lame excuse for a response up on the site. Sometimes they write back. Hopefully your letter will get put on the editorials page so there will be hundreds of responses sent in to the Wreakin' Urinal. Some might be good, but most will be filled with the ignorant fanboyism that plagues this city and its newspaper. I can't wait to see what they think of it.You---> <---Wreakin' UrinalOh yeah...M. Stewart,The University of Akron has been around in some form or another just as long as, if not longer than the Beacon Journal newspaper (I use that term lightly). I want to know why the University of Akron sports are not covered in the same manner as "the" Ohio State University, a school over 50 times the distance from your building. The complete and utter lack of coverage of the U. Akron football media day yesterday is the latest example of this sad problem. There wasn't even an aknowledgement that there WAS a media day, and yet a story of Maurice Clarett's lawyer's ramblings took up a good chunk of real-estate in tuesday's sports section. Why is that? I want an honest answer as to why the Akron newspaper doesn't cover the University of Akron's sports as much as tOSU's. Please e-mail me at zap2@uakron.edu with your reply. Thank You, Zap2

Each editor should have their pay docked a certain amount for every error found. I no longer subscribe to the ABJ so I vote NO.
ziptrumpet87
Seems like the articles they do publish are things that are "cut-n-paste" (or close to it) from another source a few weeks after being published somewhere else. I've given up on them as a source (except for Razor's blog). All the good stuff is here on ZN!
