Balsy Posted March 5, 2015 Report Posted March 5, 2015 Akron has officially overtaken Can't in the no-buddy-cares-PNC-Wagon-Wheel-Challenge! Akron has never won, so beating Can't in anything is wonderful. If only Can't' had a Men's Soccer team, we'd beat them every year. Quote

Men's soccer and swimming (where Can't doesn't have teams) would have helped. Quote

But not the other way around (for sports like wrestling). Quote

MDZip Posted March 6, 2015 Report Posted March 6, 2015 I agree. Because nobuddy cares about wrestling.Except maybe the people who were actually a part of the last wrestling team Akron ever had. Lot of foot in mouth on the board here recently. :-) It was a real shame too, because the Akron area has long been a stronghold for good high school wrestling, one of the reasons Can't has had a pretty good team for a long time. I pay attention to the minor sports maybe more than most other folks because to me that's what college sports are supposed to be, not a breeding ground for professional leagues. I find the Olympic type sports to be a little more pure in that way. I certainly root for the Zips in the big ones, but I also enjoy the minor ones. I think Shawn Barber is a more amazing athlete than anyone on the major sports rosters. And the reason I always enjoyed wrestling was because you didn't have to hit the genetic lottery to be a part of it, and even though you were part of a team it really was an individual sport, and if you worked hard enough at it you could get better. If you were 7 feet tall even without much talent at all the basketball team would probably find a spot for you, same for football if you weighed 250 pounds. Quote

I share an office with a wrestling coach... To even quote yourself " If you were 7 feet tall even without much talent at all the basketball team would probably find a spot for you, same for football if you weighed 250 pounds. " To....most of those kids already play Basketball and Football, and despite being bad at both sports, still will play those two sports over wrestling 99% of the time...that's at least my experience with sharing my office with the wrestling coach. Its a very small group of people to cater an entire D-I sport too. I give props to the Lacrosse team that reps Akron and pays for it themselves. And the paintball (club?). Both teams wear the Blue And Gold, and wear the logo. But it's just truth that no-one cares. zippy5 Posted March 6, 2015 Report Posted March 6, 2015 You might wanna check out a wrestling match at PSU or Iowa Quote
K92 Posted March 6, 2015 Report Posted March 6, 2015 I wish Akron still had wrestling. I think watching NCAA wrestling is very enjoyable. Much more exciting than soccer. Quote

I'm a little biased in that my cousin is the #1 wrestler in the country at 132 and would like to see him at my alma mater Quote
Balsy Posted March 6, 2015 Author Report Posted March 6, 2015 I've watched and listened to about a million OSU wrestling courtesy of my office-mate...and all I gotta say is Quote
