Dr Z Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Football tailgaters will face new rulesDrinking to be banned outside Beaver Stadium during gameBy Adam SmeltzUNIVERSITY PARK -- Penn State will impose a limited drinking ban at tailgate parties outside Beaver Stadium, the administration announced Wednesday. The ban will be in effect only when football games are under way, not before the kickoff or after the final whistle, university officials said. They called it a proactive measure meant to rein in fans who show up only to party and drink in tailgating lots."State College has a big drinking problem, and we can't do a lot to influence five-cent beer specials in town," university spokesman Bill Mahon said. "But there are areas we can influence, and this is something we can implement."For the full story and link click here Quote
Lititzlion Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 It only takes a few idiots throwing trash, keying cars, etc. to ruin it for everybody. The general consensus though is that this will be selectively enforced. If you're having a beer at your RV and not screaming obscenities, most of us think you won't have a problem. We'll see I guess. Buckzip Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 I don't know how they can be selective. Some will view that as profiling. As much as I like to party at games, this does make sense. fter what I saw at the OSU game last year, nobody should be drinking. Quote
Lititzlion Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 I think they can pull off the selective enforcement because the place is huge and they don't have to appear to be everywhere at once. They will concentrate their enforcement in the areas to which they are drawn. At least that's my hope.Nothing will stop the drinking and if I remember my college days from the late '70s - early '80s well enough, the students and vagrants will simply drink faster before kickoff. This new rule could have unintended consequences. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 As much as I like to party at games, this does make sense. fter what I saw at the OSU game last year, nobody should be drinking. That's because the OSU fan base can't control themselves. Win a football game and burn the town down. Nice.OSU fans are the reason YSU no longer has open tailgating. The inability of OSU fans to control themselves on gameday will trickle down to the Zips one day. Mark my words. The State (Ohio Govt.) will never let OSU be the only school to outlaw tailgating, so the State will pass laws barring tailgating at any Ohio college game.Check back with me in 5 years. I guarantee it happens.F OSU in the skull. (for lack of a better icon) Quote
PSU_Nut Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 They can easily be slective because there are certain "problem" areas that the large parties they are targeting are at. These are generally the non reserved spots that are farther from the staduim. Quote
Buckzip Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 "That's because the OSU fan base can't control themselves. Win a football game and burn the town down. Nice."That's wrong twice.1-The game in question was at PSU. 2-Yes, certain OSU fans are/were total morons, but it wasn't the entire fan base. Also, it was a little more than "a" game.I don't get this pure jealousy "some" have for OSU. You can deny it all you want, but that is what it is. I graduated from UA, and OSU. I am a fan of both. When they rarely play, I root for UA, as I am from Akron, and I know a victory would do wonders for this program.Bobbyake, you are very special. So special you don't deserve a response. Quote
