I was at the game but didn't have of a good enough angle on Maryland's "first goal" to comment fairly. However, I was told by a buddy who watched the match on BTN that after the save the ball went out for a corner. If the entire ball was in the goal it would defy the laws of physics for the ball to then cross the end line. Home cooking???

I was at the game, too...in the red chairback seats. I happened to be looking through the telephoto lens on my camera when it occurred but didn't snap a picture. It didn't appear to go deep enough into the goal to have completely crossed the line. However, I cannot be absolutely certain. If it did not cross, I don't think we'll ever see the replay especially given that it was a BTN broadcast.

Step framing through that video it certainly appears that the GK's hand was on the ball before it crossed the line. After the stop the ball dribbled outside the post and at a slight angle toward the end line, which is another indication it hadn't crossed the line. I don't know how that could be called a goal unless the official was right on top of it at an optimum viewing angle. That's a bad place to make a weak judgment call.

I'll admit that now that I've seen it on video, it's very difficult to say from that angle. Another argument for goal line technology. I don't understand why they have it for hockey, but not soccer. Thank goodness we got the 3rd goal so that it didn't really matter.
