bobbyake
I was just informed that Panini's doesn't have ESPNU, we're going to need another place to go to, does anyone know who will actually have the game on???
bobbyake
We need a bar that has the Dish Network, or Direct TV
GoZips88
I just called Damon's in Belden Village - DirecTV yes, ESPNU no. Nick, the manager, is going to call me on Friday after he gets the sheet (from corporate I guess) that tells him what games they'll have access to on Saturday. I let him know that Zip fans are looking for a place to go watch the Akron/NCST game Saturday at noon and he said he'd love to have the business. In the meantime, I guess we're still 'on the hunt!' bobbyake
Direct TV should come with ESPNU
Blue & Gold
We've gotta find a place! In my never-ending Quixotic quest to build up the Zips fan base, I've already told 6 friends to come w/ me to Panini's to watch the game (it's not conflicting w/ the Buckeye's game this week!) But I was counting on Panini's carrying the game!!!
GoZips88
ESPNU is included as part of the DirecTV's Total Choice Premier package ($99 a month) or can be added as part of the SPORTS PACK package. The Sports Pack package can be added to any of the base packages for an additional $12 (or less per DirecTV's web site) a month. I'm waiting on a call back from my father-in-law to see if he'd let me pay him $12 for September (NCST) and November (Ohio) so I can catch those two road cames. Cheaper than a road trip! br30302004
Someone told me that Johnny Malloys at Chapel Hill had ESPNU. I have no verification on this though...
ZachTheZip
You would think a sports bar would have a "sports package" for their TVs.We already have about 20 people from Facebook planning to go, with possibly 40 more. We need to find a place by tommorow in order to spread the word. I'll call the winking lizard to see what I can find, but it is so far from campus, I don't know how many can still make it. Bleacher Bum
I'm pretty sure BW3 across from campus has it. I know they had it last year. This is where I was planning on going to watch it with a few other people.
GoZips88
Just called and talked to Steve at Johnny Malloy's Chapel Hill. They DO have ESPNU and WILL be showing the Akron/NCST game on a few different screens. They open at 11AM. GO ZIPS!
ZachTheZip
Hurray for Johnny Malloy's! I couldn't get through to The Winking Lizard, but Malloy's has it. Awesome!

ZachTheZip
Awesome! Now that I think about it, I have to be at work by 2:00 on saturday, but I work at the Kaiser right across the street from the Mall. If you get too drunk/sick during the game, come to my work and let me know the score. I will definetely be there untill I have to go to work though.Oh yeah, the facebook group for Zipsnation has over 480 members.
GoZips88
FYI - I called Johnny Malloy's in Medina and they do NOT have ESPNU. Each Johnny Malloy's decides which sports channels to carry. I called Chapel Hill again and a different manager confirmed that the AKRON/NCST game WILL be on Saturday at noon. If any of you are planning to go to a Johnny Malloy's other than Chapel Hill, you'd better call first (johnnymalloys.com for locations and phone numbers) to make sure they have access to ESPNU. Go Zips! Cheers everyone!
ZachTheZip
I diddn't know there were any other Johnny Malloy's in the area. Rest assured, I will be at the mall that day.
zippyrifle32
i'm definitely planning on going, but where exactly is it? is it like inside the mall?
bobbyake
no, but it's near it, it's to the left of dicks.
Zipsrifle
I made some phone calls tonight and it looks like the Michigan Chapter of the Akron Zips Fan Club will be meeting at the BW3 in Novi, Mi to watch the game this Saturday (Since they have ESPNU). Since the UofM vs. CMU game is at the same time, I will guarantee we'll be relegated to one of the smaller TV's on the side, and we may have to fight for it at that. I have a backup place in mind if we are having a hard time. Game starts at 12:00, and I figure we'll show up at about 11:30 to get a seat (It's usually pretty packed). Shoot me an e-mail if you're interested.
RowdyZip
I'm collecting some crew and heading to malloy's. If you look real close you'll see the plates in the parking lot.GO ZIPS!!!
ZachTheZip
I'm pretty sure that they don't card at the door. I found out that they serve Geppetto's pizza, and even have a pizza shop inside for pick-up, and I just don't see them checking people's I.D.s so that they can get a pizza. Valpo Zip
Does Johnny Malloy have room for all of us ?There must be other places who have ESPNU ...
ziptrumpet87
I'm sure other establishments in the area would love to know how much business they lost because they didn't cater to the hometown team.
bobbyake
i don't think we could get an Akron group to ever fill Johnny Malloy's. It's big. I really wish we could be going to Panini's to watch the game but without ESPNU, that's out of the question. I'm going to miss the $1 miller lite drafts. ZachTheZip
According to Facebook, there are at least 24 people that are going, with an additional 40 more possible. Mabye if we put up a good enough showing, they will want us back for other games and give us a good discount.
Dr Z
I just spoke to the manager at Damons (Steels Pointe) she told me she will have the game on.The dude I get on the phone before I spoke to the manager.Me: "Do you guys have ESPNU?"Him: "Yes we do"Me: "Will you have the Akron game on Saturday at noon?"Him: "Ummmmmm it depends if there are any big games on at the same time"Me: "Akron is the only big game on Saturday."Him: "Weeeeellll probably, well maybe since it is sorta local."Me: "Sorta local????
