ZachTheZip
I've been thinking about doing one of those free Akron shirt promotions ever since I got back to campus. I've seen more OSU shirts and hats than I've seen Akron shirts and hats.
msopher
Toledo has "The Rocket store" run by a few loyal fans. Althought not necessarily profitsble, it gives us fans an opportunity to buy products that otherwise may not be available through the university. Blue & Gold
I'm hoping they're planning on incorporating a top shelf Zips store into the new stadium plans, much like the souvenir shop at Canal Park - accesible both from inside the park and outside. Probably along Exchange street. Naturally, open year-around.
Buckzip
A store inthe new stadium would be great. I would love to see something at some local sports stores too.
Dr Z
I would like to have ONE of the TEN or more PSU stores that I saw Friday night there.Their stores are AWESOME. I have never seen a team (NFL included) with so many stores with EVERYTHING PSU.I got a really nice "Fear the Roo" golf shirt at Uniquely Ohio in Hudson for a birthday present. I've seen more OSU shirts and hats than I've seen Akron shirts and hats. actually yesterday the university did "student appreciation day" and gave out a ton of fear the roo t-shirts. later that day the store in the jar had a sidewalk sale cleaning out the old. i got a bunch of $5 t's for gifts. i thought it all was a great idea, cause now student who got shirts (i was in class and didn't get one ) have no excuse not to be wearing akron. bobbyake
i posted way back that I was thinking about opening one in the mall. I would still like to do that someday. Right not I'm not in a position to do so though. My next plan is another duplex or a bar, but I'm probably going to get into that around March. FearTheRoo
It would be SO nice to have a "team shop" rather than a concession stand that happens to sell t-shirts! I have to think that is in the works for the new stadium. Think of the merchandising money!I am happy to see local Wal-Mart stores and a few others selling gear. I even saw uofa rugs at Home Depot. Lowes pissed me off becuase they sell gift cards with college logos. They have OSU, Michigan, Ohio U and Miami...but no Fugging AKRON??!! Lowes pissed me off becuase they sell gift cards with college logos. They have OSU, Michigan, Ohio U and Miami...but no Fugging AKRON??!! When I ask Sports Stores like Dick's, Logan's, etc. they tell me that they used to carry University of Akron items but then the University took over the merchandising of their logo items several years ago and want an arm and a leg for the right to sell the stuff. All I know is that the selection is limited (even at the Bookstore) and many of the sizes are suspect. I bought a 2XX sweatshirt and had to give it to my 5'2" (135 lb) wife, as it sure didn't fit me. And this was even before it was washed. I did notice Champs had a fairly large selection of Akron T's and sweatshirts, at least it was comparable to OSU. FearTheRoo
I bet that licensing policy has loosened a bit. The Fear the Roo stuff is still selling well and the U would be stupid not to allow places to sell. I ask for Zips gear every year as ideas for birthday gifts. No one in my family except my wife will buy it because they 1) don't want to take the time to find the needle-in-a-haystack storeand 2) the hours are terrible for anyone who works normal day job hours!
