Sergeant Zip
JD is on the Front Page of the college football section, AND IT'S FRIDAY. It has been 6 days and, nationally, people are still talking about that call. NICE!
Buckzip
Yeah, JD is getting a lot of pub. He's gone....
bobbyake
I honestly don't think we need to worry about JD leaving so soon. He's not even at the top of the list of Mid Major Coaches. The coach from Fresno State, TCU. or Utah would be the first targets, I think Toledo's coach would actually go before JD. JD is an amazing coach but I don't think he'll be gone within 4 years. JD is an amazing coach but I don't think he'll be gone within 4 years. that shows how little you know about the MAC at this point in your short life. Amstutz from Toledo will not leave unless he is forced out for negative things. i don't think Brookhart is/will be the same way. I do not thin kthat he will leave at the end of this season, but next season he will once a Big Ten job like, say, Michigan State were to open up. ;-)Akron will continue to be a mid-major and be in the shadow of Ohio State. Over time we may be able to get our 1 in 100 chance of beating them but it takes time. life, college football and all of the truely good things in life need to be treated like a marathon, not a sprint, no matter who the head coach is. remember we are building for the community, the school and the benefit of student-athletes, not a quick fix to crumble.Rome was not built in a day. viva la roo! Quickzips
God guys, get off the doom and gloom side of this and enjoy the ride, however long it lasts.
bobbyake
I still don't see JD at the top of the list.
Buckzip
I guess if there is 1 head coaching opportunity in major college football open in the offseason, we don't need to worry. However, there is usually quite a few openings. He doesn't have to be at the top, but he is certainly near the top.
bobbyake
he might be up there, but everyone acts like he'll be the first to go.
Buckzip
He certainly will get some interviews. It all depends on how well he does there. It doesn't really matter if he is #1, or #5. If he goes, it will suck.At least a little ground work is laid.
Zip N' Dots
Believe me if JD is leaving he already knows it, but I don't think he is a jetison at heart. He is not being taken care of the way he should be, especially with what he has done for this program in the 3 years he has been here. Hopefully Akron writes JD a fat check at the end of the year since the coach of the Golden Urinals is making more! Do we seriously not owe it to JD? PAY THE MAN! He's made football exciting again! you am i
jd doesn't seem to be the "hired gun" type. money is not the end-all and be-all to him. if he has the kind of continued success here that we are confident he will, he will leave. that's the nature of the business. but it will be for what he considers the right situation. he's not going to jump ship for the first big-time program that wants him. i see him here for another 2 years. and when he does leave, akron will be on top and good candidates will be lined up for the job. has akron had a football or basketball head coach in the last 30 years that moved on to better things? i think they've all been fired. Kangaroo Craig
has akron had a football or basketball head coach in the last 30 years that moved on to better things? i think they've all been fired. Bob Huggins.
Sergeant Zip
Do we seriously not owe it to JD? PAY THE MAN!I found this link from Razor's Blog. I don't know how legit it is, but I thought it was kind of disappointing how much Akron pays its athletic staff. Maybe they don't have much of a choice? Crap, find alternate funds. Isn't that what they are paid to do?
zippyrifle32
i didn't see my coach on there, but i already knew he was one of the lowest paid...too low to even make the list
ZipAlumn
has akron had a football or basketball head coach in the last 30 years that moved on to better things? i think they've all been fired.Bob Huggins. Bob Hugggins maybe was not fired, but believe me he was "forced out" when the hired Gerry "The Notre Dame Wonder". In order to meet one of Gerry's many demands (after firing Dennison) they went to a "big time" conference in football, but left basketball out in the cold. Basketball did NOT have a conference and had no chance of making post season play. Without a conference Huggins could have won every game, and still not made it to the NCAA. Everyhing but "Gerry's team" was second class, and Huggins was not a 2nd class coach.
Zipsrifle
i didn't see my coach on there, but i already knew he was one of the lowest paid...too low to even make the list I'm sure Newt would like more money, and he deserves more money. For Newt, it's a labor of Love. The guy has dedicated his life to building up this program, and give the circumstances he's had to deal with, he's done an amazing job. The other Collegiate shooting programs in the state (OSU, and formerly Xavier), had more $$$ support and bigger names. Despite this the Zips have been just a bit better than OSU in recent years and have outlasted National Shooting Powerhouse Xavier, who's team was sacrificed in favor of higher profile sports and, IMO, because it wasn't P.C. zippyrifle32
couldn't agree with you more. i am so glad i came to akron, mainly because of him. there's a reason why i keep my mouth shut when everyone is demanding that kd and jd need more money. there's only so much to go around and i know everyone would jump me if i suggested giving it to other programs. my biggest worry is that when newt can't coach anymore, the job won't pay enough to attract another person to coach, and i'd hate to see the team fold over something as stupid as that.
