2016 fall schedule

Akron's season opening opponent...Georgetown...plays at Virginia tonight in an exhibition.  On aug. 13, G'town played at Elon and they played to a 1-1 tie.  On Aug. 16th, G'town played at Duke and they played to a 0-0 tie.  I think that the G'town goalie was first team pre season all american by college soccer news.

Goals should be scarce next Friday night.

#10 Georgetown lost their last exhibition last night at #17 Virginia ...2-0

this is down the road a little bit (and hopefully, Stuart will be 100% healthy by then)....but I just noticed that one zip soccer game this year will be televised on the big ten network

The zips road game at Penn State will be televised on October 18  (hopefully, no zips jerseys will be stolen this year)

I think some questioned this opponent when the Zips' schedule came out. Looks like they're a good draw at their place. A visit there in 2017 could be fun.

that is fantastic for a new program.  The south Carolina/clemson mens soccer game last Friday drew 6,900.

Interesting attendance numbers for UCLA.  Their soccer facility has a capacity of 11,700,  I was very surprised to see that last week's UCLA-Maryland game was moved to the Stub Hub Center.  Attendance at the Stub Hub Center was 1,134.   UCLA hosted Cal State Fullerton this past Monday at Drake Stadium (their stadium with 11,700 capacity.  Attendance was 746.   Will be interesting to see the attendance for the Akron-UCLA game on Labor Day.

The best thing Grand Canyon has going for it's soccer program is coach Schellas Hyndmann, former MLS coach of FC Dallas, and before that, long-time and very successful coach at SMU.  His son, Emerson BTW is a potential USMNT player, who plays for Bournemouth in the Premier League.  GCU is the only collegiate men's soccer program in AZ, excepting JCs (Yavapai is the national power).  And, regarding UCLA's Drake Field, the stadium is very poorly cared for, and is being replaced by a new facility that will seat about 3000, which is plenty more than the program (sadly) needs.  I've watched many Bruins men's and women's games at Drake on Pac12 network, and I always see fans seated in temporary bleachers that sit alongside the pitch.  Not sure what the state of the concrete stands is.  If you attend the game this weekend, you can probably see the new stadium under construction.  It's funded to about 20 mill by the Annenberg Foundation.  I was really looking forward to the trip and seeing the UCLA campus, including the botanical gardens that Bill Walton raved about on TV last BB season, but won't be able to make it.  I hope the Zips will be allowed back after this game.  Coach Salcedo's team did not look at all good vs Maryland Fri nite, and I fear for his boys vs the nation's #1 ranked team, looking for a pay-back for last October.  Of course, it could just be a case of their continued inconsistent play -- carrying over from last year.  We'll find out after we warm up vs the Aztecs.  Good luck to the team and our travelling section!

@Z.I.P. thanks for all of this great information. I really like that we scheduled GCU. They may just be getting going, but it looks like they have the right things in place. If they're on our away schedule next year, this is a trip I want to make in addition to the Pacific NW trip that I'm hoping we schedule to "pay back" Seattle and Oregon St. Would be most awesome if the Timbers were home that weekend.
