Were the heck is Johnny Long? Getsy has completed 59 passes, of which Long has caught 2 for 19 yards. Harvey is nice, but after last year I thought Long was going to be better than 2 catches in 3 games. I haven't been able to watch these games, is he even on the field? The same with Kasparek, 4 catches in 3 games. Kennedy has 15 catches and he only has played 2.5 games. This says that Getsy is not using his checkdowns efficiently or he has no time. Both are probably true. With our receiving corps, Kennedy shouldn't be leading the team in receptions.

Why shouldn't Kennedy lead the team in receptions? It's a west coast offense. A short, ball control, passing game. The rb's are huge players in this offense. Just be thankful that Kennedy has the ability to catch the ball, otherwise this offense wouldn't be able to function effectively. If you're concerned that the ball hasn't been thrown downfield often enough, then you don't need to look at Getsy, anyway. You need to take a look at what kind of pass protection he's getting from that veteran, experienced, senior lead offensive line.

Allow me to join you in saying: "David Harvey... Wow ! "As for long, i am not sure if he was on the field because if he was, he went unnoticed. Jabari Arthur caugt some passes but dropped some easy ones too. I don't remember seeing Jermaine Lindsay drop any passes but he also didn't make any huge play (but fairly good overall). Therefore the only "wow" deserving receiver so far is harvey.About the TE, i think that Poindexter is getting some playing time away from KAZ... I think that both of them are great TEs and it is a hard decision to play one at the expense of the other... i think that JD prefers poindexter.DK, he is our best runner, best receiver and at some points he was our best passer... the man got it all. (another wow).

I'm not a West Coast offense guru. So with DK leading the team in receptions, is that really okay? Or does it mean that DK is the "safety valve" that Getsy can throw the ball to as a last resort. If that is the case, then the fact that DK is leading the team in receptions would indeed seem to be a very scary statistic. Right?

I think we're seeing why this kid was a big time recruit two years ago. He belongs at a BCS program, but I'm thrilled we've got him. JD has got to start throwing down the field more at the beginning of the game instead of playing conservative until its shit or get off the pot time in the fourth quarter, and then opening up the play book. With recievers like Arthur and Harvey, and Kasparek down the seam, there's no reason why we can't have an incredible vertical passing attack the ENTIRE game, not just in the fourth quarter.

zone. i do see what you are saying, but you can't force passes down the field. look what luke did at the end of the half.we were lucky to get the one pass reviewed, and went our way. it was a great job of our wr to take the ball from the cmu guy.the next play luke threw the int. not to make injury excuses, but i think dk going to out hurt our short passing, and running game. down at the goal line it would have been nice to see if he could have got in the end zone.

You are correct, the RB are huge in the West Coast Offense. It is a ball control offense also. Basically the short passes take the place of the run. In the WCO, a quarterback should have time for 3 quick reads. In general, deep, middle, and than an outlet pass that usually goes to a RB. The QB should take a 3-5 step drop, than pass. During his dropback he should be progressing through his reads. That being said, the RB could be the primary receiver, with the first read being to the RB in the flat. But that would usually be in a goaline/short yardage situation. It is a situational offense, but that is true with most. The more I think about it the more I am concerned with our WR play. If the WR is not making the same read as Getsy, that could be a huge disruption to the offensive flow. I.e. based on the defensive setup, the WR thinks release outside and Getsy is thinking there is a hot read inside, the continuity/timing is off. I think the WCO is based a lot on timing due to the progressions the QB has to make. I really think we could be beating up Getsy and the O-line too much. Not to say the the o-line isn't at fault, but if the WR are not releasing off the line right, running poor routes, making wrong reads, then the QB has no one to go to but the RB. No with the possibility of DK not being 100% and the possibility that our running could be stagnant, our WR need to step-up.
was Getsy really that good last year, or was he helped out by a really good receiver?????
I think we are seeing that the WRs were more important then was originally thought me.
