zippyrifle32
first of all i'll get the good out of the way. EVERYONE was LOUD. it really was a great atmosphere to be in and a lot of fun. now that that's out of the way...first of all placing us away from our team SUCKS. looking across the way, there was room for us over there. they added more tarps and personally, i don't want to have to sit in front of a light post. second, students need to get a clue. i heard one guy before the game telling everyone to break as many benches as they could so that the school has to get a new stadium. hey dumbasst, there's a reason why we haven't broken ground yet - $$$$. even if they broke ground today, the stadium still wouldn't be ready for another couple of years and breaking the rubber bowl seats only means our sections get tarped and we have even worse places to sit. i saw at least three chunks of bleachers being raised up and cheered for since they were broken. seriously, it's not cool to force the university to have to spend anymore money on the rubber bowl just to get by for the next few years. we need that money to go into the NEW stadium. UAZips
2 parts that were broken were right infront of me. No one was trying to break them, they just gave way and broke, sending people to the ground.
ZachTheZip
The bleachers are like that through out the stadium. Those blue covers that were attached to the original wooden seats are all that is left in some places. the wood has completely rotted away. I noticed several rows that had new wooden bleachers. It looks like they were attached yesterday because I still see and even smell the sawdust.

I absolutely agree and am planning to voice my opinion in a letter to Mack Rhoades. I am a 42-yr old alumnus who just bought season tickets this year, and I wish I was sitting with the students. I much preferred when the student section was near the team and next to the reserved section. In fact, I would prefer if the students had the seats in the lower sections behind the team between the 30 yard lines. I would love to sit right behind all of you and cheer with you. zippyrifle32
i know that the bleachers are bad (as my teammate picked up two rusted off nuts off her seat) but to encourage people to bounce and jump on them in an attempt to get them to break wasn't cool. the one that broke right in front of me i know was on purpose (frat guys). my point is that it's shitty enough without us breaking it down even more. Valpo Zip
The seats allocated for the student section SUCK!!!!that's horrible, i didn't sit overthere today and i will never do that anytime... Students usually get the best seats for them to be close and loud and energize the stadium. That section in the away corner is the worst place for some one to see tha game. Hilltopper
I thought the students did a great job tonite. You could hear them easily from the bench. I have been going to Zips football for 37 years and tonite was the first time it felt like we really had a student section.
Quickzips
Damn straight the students rocked it most of the night (though the ADHD started kicking in in the second half when the beach ball came out j/k). Can't say that I heard anything about intentionally trying to break bleachers. They just seemed to be falling apart today. I think you could basically put those blue tarps over the whole stadium. None of the seats are safe. I just hope to god that all those students who were there tonight show up again next week at Can't and for the rest of the year at the Toilet Bowl. And bring your friends. All of them.
zippyrifle32
man, if everything is going to be falling apart, then untarp the freaking endzone and let us back into our section! make everyone sign health waivers, i don't care! i hate where we were placed. zipseuph
first of all I agree that it was dumb of people to try to brake the bleachers, at the same time I also realize that it was tough not to break the bleachers. I absolutly loved all of the students being next to the marching band. we would play a song and you guys would dance or we would do a cheer and you guys would join in. it was the first time in my 3 years in the band that I felt a connection between the students in the band and the students in the A-K Rowdys. last, if we are going to be away from our team atleast sit us right behind the other team for a little psycological warfare
bobbyake
we had a lot of students it seemed at the game, where was all the Alumni at??? the home side of the field looked empty. The bleachers were breaking easy. i don't think people were trying to break them, but we tried pulling out a peace that fell through so that no one would stand on it and fall through. We didn't want to see anyone get hurt. The beach ball was fun. My friend actually ended up with it so we're going to bring it to the Can't game. The question is, how are the Akron students going to be seated for the Can't game and how much are our tickets going to be????????????? lilcat19
I agree. A very bad place for the student section. My parents and I went to the game for my b-day...and we ended up sitting in the North Texas section just b/c they were really good seats. Bad idea to have us on the opposite side of the field
BigCountry
Zipsrifle: Enough of your crying. I must have been part of the "frat boys" that were sitting right infront of you when the bleachers broke. You can't be sure that it was on purpose because it wasn't. Everyone was standing on the bleachers and the guy behind me fell through... thank god it wasn't my large self or I might have fallen right through the cement. After it had broken straight through (and knowing that you can't repair that sort of thing) the guy was encouraged to break a piece off to take home with him.I'm sorry if us "frat boys" (in the nastiest way you can say 'frat') had too good of a time there. Looking around last night, removing all the Greek members would have left the student section pretty empty. I'm tired of your type that will sit there and complain about things going on around you, when a year ago you would have complained about not having enough people. I've read your posts about stabbing the ball that was passed around because it was distracting. I guess if no-one was standing on the bleachers they wouldn't have broken... and I'm sure you hated having to stand the whole time. Also, if you'd like, we won't cheer next time, i'm sure it was distracting you from not hearing the PA announcer.I hope in the future, more zips games are on tv, so you can stay home and watch it instead of being surrounded by "us people"Sincerely,Some frat guy
zippyrifle32
last time i checked, concrete doesn't break like wood and fiberglass bleachers do. maybe the seats break cause they're meant to be sat on but people jump up and down on them. yeah everyone was standing on them, myself included. the difference is standing and cheering and jumping up and down as much as possible. when i heard that guy last night it really pissed me off. maybe you were the guy in front of me, maybe not cause there were a lot of greeks there. i still stand by my point that it's not cool to try to intentionally try to break them. make all the excuses you want, but i was able to be just as loud and rowdy without breaking my bench thank you very much. bobbyake
I'm sorry if us "frat boys" (in the nastiest way you can say 'frat') had too good of a time there. Looking around last night, removing all the Greek members would have left the student section pretty empty.I didn't even see many greeks there except for the ones tailgating. That was a good idea for a game by the way. That relay with the cups on the ground. Even though I saw one guy breaking the man law by spilling more than half of the beer while drinking. But going to a football game just because it's Greek night? I figured you guys went because you're students and enjoy your schools football program. Hey zippyrifle, For all I know, I could have been that guy you're talking about. If you don't like how the students acted, go sit with the alumni. I'm sure the ushers will allow you to sit there since the Alumni failed to come out in force. I have no idea who brought that beach ball, but somehow my friend ended up with it. It's sitting in my car right now and I'll be sure to bring it to the Can't game. It was fun hitting it around. NTU had no chance of coming back. I believe JD turned things down because he's not the kind of coach that runs up the score.I wish our next home game wasn't so far away. This schedule is crap. BigCountry
Zippyrifle... holy crap... the falling through the cement was a self inflicted fat joke and it went right over your head while you drooled on yourself. You can stand by your point that it's not cool if you intentionally break them, and I will stand with you, because no-one tried to. I'm an engineer, and if the benches are strong enough to hold you while you stand on them (the same weight as sitting and lifting your legs off the ground) but a little bouncing during important parts of the game sends you crashing through, then we have an issue with factor of safety.bobbyake... thanks for agreeing about sitting with the alumni... also, I didn't make it to the greek night tent, but if someone spilled his beer, then he is currently being beaten in a boiler room in the basement of shrank south. Also, I don't think the greeks showed up just because it was greek night, as a community, we are consistently at games because we love our sports. We usually don't wear letters (my whole fraternity didn't yesterday), because we're decked out in akron gear, but i recognize faces and there were alot of us there. I certainly didn't mean to imply that greeks were there only because it was greek night. Also, be sure to bring the beach ball... that thing kicked ass.
