Blue & Gold Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 Does anyone have any inside info on whether the athletic administration is still considering a Homecoming weekend stadium announcement? With the demoralizing loss to Can't, we need this announcement. We desperately need to take a serious step forward. The Rubber Bowl, God bless her, is a downright embarassment. However, even with the incredible handicap of the Rubber Bowl, JD's last 2 recruiting classes have been tops in the MAC. Could you imagine what kind of talent JD could, should and would bring in with a new jewel of a stadium?! Lord have mercy, the MAC would tremble at the sound of Zippy's name! Quote
UAZipster0305 Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 I've also heard rumors about the announcement of a major fundraising campaign to begin in the near future with a public announcement. I'm expecting the two to coincide with one another. Quote
zff Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Don't you mean Swenson's Stadium @ Strickland's Field Quote
Buckzip Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Don't you mean Swenson's Stadium @ Strickland's Field At least the food would be great. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Don't you mean Swenson's Stadium @ Strickland's Field We would have a gauranteed sellout for every event we ever had there! Quote
Hilltopper Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Write it down FIRST ENERGY FIELD and get used to it cause its gonna happen! Quote
Blue & Gold Posted October 8, 2006 Author Report Posted October 8, 2006 When is the announcement going to be made and when are we going to get to drool over architectural renderings? Quote
zff Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 Is eveybody getting ready for the big announcement!!!!!!! Quote
zipsbandman Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 The firm architectural firm is designing the structure now and they said it would take about six months so once the trustees see the complete plans then they'll probably have more grounds to come to an agreement. Right now they have nothing to show us. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 They better have beer at the new stadium. Attendance at the Rubber Bowl would be significantly better if they had beer. Quote
Big Zip Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 Do you think Tony Alexander will really pony up First Energy for naming rights over Gary Taylor of Infocision? Two guys with fat cash -- my guess is Taylor would be a more viable solution strictly from the fact that (I believe) Infocision is a privately held company and Taylor is not beholden to the same shareholders that could question Alexander's decision to plunk down the cash on naming rights for his alma mater. To be honest though -- how much could you get for naming rights to a stadium at The University of Akron? Googling Jacob's field brings back naming rights of $695,000 annually. A ten year naming right cost $7 million -- what's that buy you in a $60-$75 million stadium. I guess a good start. If I remember right the pouring rights to The University of Akron cost $4.5 million for Pepsi for ten years and they were actually getting something back in sales for their money. Quote
FearTheRoo Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 The firm architectural firm is designing the structure now and they said it would take about six months so once the trustees see the complete plans then they'll probably have more grounds to come to an agreement. Right now they have nothing to show us. It was an architectural firm, but they are only supposed to be concepts, not the actual designs. I expect that several renderings will be produced. The fact that they are approaching it with an open mind is cool. Remember, one of the options being explored, although highly unlikely, will be a domed stadium allowing basketball to have a new home. Quote
