Any Preferred NCAAT Opponents?

Recommended Posts

I take a lot of interest in the program's history and implications for public notoriety based on brand recognition of our opponents.

Here's who we could realistically face in the NCAAT and who I'd like to see us host, in no particular order:

Wisconsin

Coastal Carolina

Georgetown

Maryland

Kentucky

Louisville

UNC-CH

Duke

UNC-Wilmington

Air Force

VCU

Cal

UCLA

Any to add?

UCLA should not be on your list....they can not make the NCAA tournament due to being sub .500

they are 7-9-1 and only have one game left

Not especially.  He has not had good things to say about Ohio in general.  Not recently.

That's my point Big Buff....the question was who would we like to host...and I wan to have him come here and bust his soccer balls by beating him in his past residence.....

Wouldn't it be grand to see Ken Lolla back in Akron?

No. That ship sailed some time ago and good riddance. I got my satisfaction when the Zips beat his team for the National Championship in 2010. I don't need to see him again.

the team on here....that I do not want to play....is Wisconsin....

they are 26 in the RPI and could be a round of 32 matchup for a 7 or 8 seed

Wisconsin has knocked off Maryland and an excellent Michigan team in the big 10 tourney

Wisconsin is a very dangerous team right now

Zips need to focus on beating WMU.

It will take the best effort this season to best them in their crib.

For decades we have bemoaned the lack of worthy competition in MAC.

Well, that day has come.  Broncos are really good!

When you get to the NCAA Tourney, there are very few unworthy teams. There may be a few among the automatic qualifiers, but for the most part, with only 48 teams out of ~200, any opponent is dangerous.

The 2017 Zips need to stop slouching and feeling entitled. It's post season time, and our team needs to show they want it more than their opponent. That was not readily apparent yesterday.

Excellent comments.....

This team needs to be reminded of the drive that the 2009 team.   That team brought it every single game....no losses or no ties in the regular season and no goals allowed in 5 NCAA tourney games.    That team had talent......but they also wanted it every single time that they were on the field.

2009 season was technically 23-1-1, according to record books, only "loss" to Virginia on PKs in Championship (technically a draw? semi-final win we got on PKs called a draw in the record book).

2010 season was 21-1-2, only loss to Cleveland State - Championship year...

Yes, the stupid NCAA rule book declares all matches tied after the 2nd OT as draws except the National Championship match. So, although the 2009 Zips never lost a match in the run of play, they technically lost the National Championship match.

As a carry-over from one of the other threads, I do and I don't want to play UVA. Their style to put 11 behind the ball to tie and advance on PK's is everything pure soccer fans hate about college soccer. It is the anti-Porter approach to the beautiful game. I'd love to play UVA to knock them out; however, I also know (from 2009 and recent games) how effective that tactic can be.
