Interesting.  You're predicting a repeat of the 1986 Title Game.

But a different result.  :thumb:

I still remember being in my final stretch of school at Akron, and listening to that game on a transistor radio that night while I was at my part time job.  Technology sure has come a long way.

Current Duke HC John Kerr played on that 1986 Duke NCAA Championship squad.  Hermann ?!

While Duke didn't win a title in basketball until 1991, they were in three final-fours in the 60s, and runner-up in 1978, when they lost to Kentucky. I remember watching that game. The basketball tournament had 32 teams that year, and the soccer tournament had 24 ...

Wow.  That's an interesting connection.

Is revenge any less satisfying after 31 years?

No.  That would be very satisfying.

Thanks TennZips. The most interesting predictions (interpret as I disagrees)  to me are:

Air Force 2, Virginia Tech 1

     Albany 3, Maryland 2

And Kerr was the Golden Boot winner.  Shame.  Game played at the Tacoma Dome in Washington.  In the semi's Akron upset perhaps the favorite of the Final Four, Columbia and their star forward Desmond Armstrong, who you might remember from his TV broadcasting career with ESPN, etc.

Here's the write-up on Duke's website about the final.  http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=285808

And re: Zip-ME87 above: I have Air Force beating VaTech.  They have a strong record against mediocre competition.  They're undefeated In their last 16 games.

Desmond Armstrong was drafted by, and played several years for, the Cleveland Force.  US international?  He played collegiately at Maryland.

Now that I look at it again, I picked the upset. I think Air Force is at home, too.

Who is right here? ZIP says Desmond Armstrong played for Columbia; Bufflobo says Maryland. Did he transfer from Columbia to Maryland or vice versa?

EDIT: Appears bufflobo is correct...Maryland. No listing of Columbia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desmond_Armstrong

EDIT2: Akron defeated Fresno State in the semi-final in 1986...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986_NCAA_Division_I_Men's_Soccer_Championship

Unless I'm overlooking them, Columbia not even in the bracket in 1986.

Different Akron style back then...

To contain Akron's English-style of play (scoring early and then focusing on defending its own net,) Rennie looked to control the strategy of the game.  Taking advantage of his team's depth, he used frequent substitutions to slow the pace of play on the fast turf.  As a result, starting goalkeeper Mark Dodd had to make just three saves to register his ninth shutout of the season.  The winning and only goal of the game came at 1:34 into the second half, when Stone connected with an assist by Valenti and senior Carl Williamson that bounced off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net.  It was Stone's eighth game-winning goal of the season, placing him at the top of the NCAA tourney in scoring with four goals and five assists.

According to the link to the bracket, which I posted earlier, we beat Fresno State in the Semifinal.

I also remember us beating SIU-E before they won the national title in 1979.  I think the archives have been changed, just to make me look bad!  Why is everybody out to get me?!  Where was Desmond Armstrong that weekend??  :ninja:

I failed at digging up stats for 1986 Zips squad.  It seems to me 30+ years on that those Steve Parker teams were very stingy defensively. I would like to see if goals against average was below .5 per.

^Amateur^ ... How many times do I have to direct you to the Zips Media guide...http://gozips.com/documents/2017/8/25/msoc_17guide_web.pdf

Pages 66-72. Goals and number of games are there. For example:

1985: 17 goals alloewed  / 20 games

1986: 20 goals allowed / 24 games

You're welcome buflobo ;)

Anybody watching Seattle @ Washington -- our Sunday opponent?  UW just went up 1-0, but the Seattle goalie, Josh Adachi from my backyard at Iolani School in Honolulu made a couple of point-blank stuffs on the Dogs!  On PAC-12 WA
