Navy finished 6-6 in a G5 conference. Their best win was...SMU? Or maybe FAU I suppose looking back at it. Iowa St finished 7-5 in a better conference and had wins over Oklahoma and TCU. Pine Bluff 2-9; BC-U 7-4 don't keep score I guess if the millennials view. Iowa State if overrated. skip-zip
FAU Fans: You can dice up the schedules all you want, and compare opponents as subjectively as you wish. But you can't get any closer than looking at common opponents, and there's only 2 of them over the last 14 months. We beat Buffalo You lost to Buffalo We blew out Marshall by 30, on the ROAD. You squeaked by them at home. Excuse it away with injuries, new system, etc., but you can't just repeatedly ignore the two most direct comparisons we have, and ask us to look at comparisons that are far more distant and subjective.

UAZipster0305
To the FAU fans checking-in here, we are a northeastern Ohio fan-base. As such, evolution determines that those of us who remain have a chip-on-our-shoulder and are prepared to fight to the death advocating for our teams. Fan is short for fanatic for a reason, and there are no better true fans than those in northeastern Ohio. The Zips (and their fans) will show up in force in Boca Raton. Be prepared for a battle. This comparing opponents that you played last year and we played this year is probably the most ridiculous argument I have ever seen. FIne we squeaked by and you are dominating. Yes we lost to Buffalo, never made any excuses for it other than we got better every week after that game. We had ONE close game after Buffalo. You had 4 games decided by less than 5 points two of which were 1 point wins. You were on the brink of talking about how are you going to fix your program!! Once and for all...we lost to Buffalo you beat Buffalo. We have won every game since, you lost games after Buffalo. You will lose by at least 3 TD's. We are hoping you do just that. I have gone to the Boca Bowl every year of its existence its a great event. It's even better with 2 great fanbases rooting their team on. They are saying it should be a sell out (butts in the seats will be another matter). Not saying you should not advocate for your team. My point is yes you Beat Buffalo, and we lost to Buffalo I concede the point. It is meaningless to what will happen Tuesday. I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt by looking at your game against Marshall this season under your new coach. But your outcomes in those games against Marshall in both 2016 and 2017 were similar anyway. I just think I keep getting this perspective of.... We lost to Buffalo, BUT and You guys blew out Marshall, BUT Great. You brag about all of those crappy C-USA teams you beat after Buffalo. But we didn't play any of those teams, so Buffalo is the most recent common opponent we have to compare. And you keep belittling our results in MAC games after that point, and you didn't play those teams to compare either. Not arguing the significance of losing to Buffalo, but the MAC if anything is just a minor step ahead of C-USA. I am just saying the team that lost to Buffalo is not the team you are playing Tuesday. If you think it is more significant but we won 9 games since; and 1 being close and they are the best defensive team in the conference so I don't look at it as anything significant. FAU_dad
You guys beat Buffalo by 1 point and we lost by 3. Anybody here going to give me FAU and 4 points? I agree that the whole strength of schedule thing is impossible because neither side knows how good (or bad) the other conference is. Akron fans - as they should - think the MAC is good. FAU fans think our conference is as good or better. I am not sure either team would be eyeing a move to the other's conference (except for maybe enjoying the Southern weather). But I know none of us really know which conference is better top-to-bottom. I am not trying to rationalize our season. We won 10 games and a conference championship and are in a bowl where we are predicted to win. If Akron were to win you will get to 8 wins and can easily claim that the MAC is better (especially if Ohio beats UAB which I am picking in our pool). If you were to lose you'll be the MAC runner-up and have a .500 record. In reality, if we were playing Toledo, and UNT was playing you guys, and on down the line then and only then would we really know about the conferences. In the end, the only match-ups and performance that matter are the ones next Tuesday because for these 2 teams it is now just about the Boca Bowl. Balsy
And this is why I made the comment earlier FAU fans; NO-ONE CARES! I've just scrolled through 2 pages of this topic and found more FAU fan comments than Zip fans...like responding to every little slight against your egos. This is a Zips forum! I enjoy having you guys give perspectives but good-gravy get off your high horses. There's nothing I can't wait for more, than Akron finding a way to disappoint FAU fans like we've done so many other fan bases whose teams were "vastly superior" to ours. I don’t understand why everyone is banging their head against the wall. Let’s agree to disagree We believe you lost to Buffalo & really beat no one FAU believes they are improved & not the same team Let’s Play ?

zipsoutsider
What do Lavar Nelson and FAU fans have in common? They are both legends in their own minds. FAU will be a flash in the pan faster than WMU. Build a program around a personality and the program isn't worth squat when the personality leaves. Build a program for the sake of a program and you have flipped the university's fortune, if the U stewards it well. As long as Matt Wilson and Larry Williams are around I think the Zips are on the right path when Bowden leaves.
