Tiebreaker...???

that would be the team that played the hardest MAC west schedule:Last year, we won the tie breaker because we beated the champions (NIU)...If Central, western and toledo end up being ranked better than whoever Can't and ohio play than we will get it but that's a very long shot for a 3 way tie.if it ends up being a 2 way tie with Can't, they will get it because of the head to head matchup but unfortunately, i don't see Can't loosing any game.

Can't got beat by Army and we beat N.C. State. It should help us alot then because N.C. State beat B.C. and Florida State.
That doesn't matter in the MAC East race.We need OU to beat K.en.t this weekend to even begin dreaming about tie-breaker scenarios. Oh yeah...we need to beat Toledo on the road too.

If play up to par, we will have no problem winning out the rest of the season. Bad news is, although miracles DO happen, it would be one of the biggest miracles for Can't to lose 3 games the rest of the season. That is the only way Akron would make it to the championship. Even if there's a tiebreker, Can't would take it b/c they beat us. As much as we hate to admit it, K.E.N.T. is going undefeated in the MAC this year!

Does anyone remember the tiebreaker from last year?I got to thinking today...say OU beats Can't State, we beat OU, and Can't State drops one to one of the Western teams. If all teams had 2 MAC losses, who would get the tiebreak?
Why did you have to open that can of worms sgm405? Now everyone is gonna get their hopes up and start posting that the Zips have a chance to win the MAC East. And we both know that despite what is in our hearts ... our heads know better.

It is a longshot but it is still possible for the Zips to win the MAC EAST.1) Akron needs to finish 6-2 in the MAC(with losses to Can't and CMU)2) Can't and Ohio need to finish 6-2 in the MAC(with Ohio beating Can't)3) This would trigger the three way tie breaker between Akron-Can't-Ohio4) Now compare the records of these three against the winning percentage of their MAC West opponents5) We need to root for all the above to occur then have CMU, WMU and Toledo be successful for the rest of their games.GO ZIPS!!

How many bowls have MAC teams? Isn't it just Motor City, GMAC, and International? You gotta believe that if NIU doesn't win the MACC or even if they don't make it there, they're gonna get one of those bowls, just cuz people wanna see Garrett Wolfe. That slims down our chances quite a bit especially if NIU doesn't even make the title game.

Add the Birmingham Bowl onto that list... it's either a Big East team or MAC team. So the MAXIMUM # of bowls the MAC could participate in is 4. Like Ryno said "we need to quit leaving our destiny up to others" we need to take care of business the rest of the year out of pride and hope to make a bowl game with an 8-4 record. If we get passed over at 8-4 I will personally be PISSED. If we get passed up at 7-5 then I will say "we messed that one up ourselves".

I can't believe some of you guys. Akron has Toledo, BG, Buffalo, OU, and Western Michigan left. OU has Can't, E. Michigan, Akron, and Miami left. Can't has OU, Buffalo, E. Michigan, and Ball St. left. For a tiebreaker to happen we would need:1) Akron to win out (very possible if they play to their capabilities)2) OU to beat Can't, lose to us, and win against EM and MU (very possible)3) Can't to lose to OU and get upset by one of Buffalo, EM, or Ball State. Why is #3 so out of the realm of possibility? Since when did Can't State become an elite, unbeatable force like Ohio State or Michigan? They lost to Army, got shut out by Minnesota, squeeked by Miami, and beat an unimpressive bunch (minus Akron) in BG, Temple, and Toledo. And now it's impossible to think that they might lose to one tough team and then get upset in one of three games????? In the MAC??????Really think about that people...this is just disgusting...you never EVER give up on your team until all possibilities are out the window.

I'm with SGM and DR Z, There's nothing wrong with knowing all the scenerios and at the same time taking care of your own business. I'll remind you that a lot of the people that are getting on you about starting this thread were probably the last to understand how the Zips got to the championship game last year.As for everyone giving the MAC East to Can't, I'm a little confused by that also....They are 5-2 versus teams with an overall record of 16-39, their 5 wins are against teams with a record of 10-29. It hardly qualifies them as an unbeatable team. They still have plenty to prove and finally have to face a team (Ohio) that has something to play for. So, why not ? Maybe, they'll remember why there were 1-10 last year and 0 for forever in football. It wouldn't be that strange of thing to happen considering their history.First it comes down to Ohio beating Can't on Saturday and Akron taking care of business in Toledo.

It's not that I'm giving up on my teams, but it's called being realistic. I know exactly how Akron made it to the big game last year, and I never doubted them the whole way. The thing is, while OU has something to play for against Can't this Saturday, Can't has a whole lot more to play for. Can't actually sees the ring in their viewfinder. After being 1-10 last year, what more of an incentive do they need. They are the closest they have been in forever. And whether they killed these teams or "squeaked by", a win is a win and they play to win. I am a true fan, but I don't live in a bubble. We had our chance and we blew it....3 times to be exact, but I have full confidence that they will make it to another bowl if they play to their ability. And as far as NIU beating us out for the International Bowl, we played them in the MAC championship last year. Our attendance at the game blew their out of the water. While the bowl committee looks at records and talent, the also look at attendance b/c that means money for them. Perfect example is 2 years ago when we were the only bowl-eligible team that did not get a bid. Why you ask? Because Marshall was able to bring more people. We beat Marshall, but they could bring the people. The got the bid, Akron got left to sit at home and watch the game.

for us to win the mac alott of things are going to have to happen that are beyond our control.while Can't may lose to ou,but i am being realistic that i dont see them losing two mac games;much less three for the tiebreaker. we still can have a good season, and maybe things will fall our way.if Can't does beat ou the mac is over at that point.

Why does Can't have more to play for than OU? If OU wins, they immediately jump into the drivers seat in the MAC East. I just don't understand this line of thought at all.

For the simple fact that OU has at least been a contender in the MAC throughout the past 5 seasons. Can't has always been crapped on in the MAC football race. They have something huge to prove this season: that they, too, can compete in the MAC. They have to prove that not every win has been a stroke of luck, like many people are regarding their season. They want to prove that they can play, are here to play, and are going to the 'ship. OU is used to winning some games and at least being in the top 3 in the east. After all, they were part of the "what if"'s and "has to happens" last year that helped Akron go to the 'ship.
