jupitertoo Posted November 24, 2019 Report Posted November 24, 2019 If you want to see a coach get defensive, watch the latest Tom Arth press conference. Asked some tough questions, but boy does he go on and on and on in defending his approach to building a program. Average length of answer seemed like 4 minutes. Interesting note, this was the pre-Ohio press conference but there was not a single question about or mention of Tuesday's game. Quote
LZIp Posted November 24, 2019 Report Posted November 24, 2019 Idk about defensive really, but it did have some good info in regards to his approach of building the program. He's right in that a strong foundation is necessary for sustained success. He didn't mention them by name, but I believe he was talking about Toledo and how they are able to continually reload even after coaches leave for bigger jobs, and he does have a point. I think we all want a program like that. With that said, there cannot be another season like this one. There is no excuse for it. Looking at next year's OOC schedule, 3-1 is a serious possibility even considering this year's results. YSU, NMSU, and UMASS. Average FCS team and two of the worst FBS teams. Something like 1-3 with a loss to YSU will likely be the beginning of the end for the staff. They seem intelligent, hard working, and want to take the right approach (maybe too correct if you ask me). Still rooting for them.... Quote
Blue & Gold Posted November 24, 2019 Report Posted November 24, 2019 Link to press conference I still like Arth and think he'll do well. I still vividly remember iCoach. Though we may not win a game this season, Arth is no iCoach and this team is playing harder and competing better than the iCoach-led teams. I like Arth's demeanor and obvious intelligence. His staff is composed of some sincerely good people who honestly care about the young men (I still think Marcus Wattley would have been a natural fit on this staff). I could see this staff easily and naturally attracting the sort of athletes/young men required to be be successful at an Ivy League institution, but we'll see whether they have what it takes to succeed at this level. 4 Quote
