Jalapeño Zippy Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 If everything stays on course. CMU or WMU will be playing Can't State or Ohio in the MACC. Win or lose a Michigan team will play in the Motor City Bowl. Ohio/Can't State will play in the International Bowl and I am sorry but NIU is going to the GMAC if bowl eligible. The GMAC is notorious for taking the team that has the star studded/big name player, they did it last year taking Toledo with Gradkowski, instead of waiting for the loser of the MACC like they were suppose to. Which means 2 of the top 4 teams will be going home and watching the bowl games with the Zips! There is an outside chance that the MAC gets a 4th bowl which will be the Birmingham Bowl but again that is an outside chance. Too many things have to go right or wrong, however you want to look at it, to get that Bowl game. But there will still be two teams at least ahead of the Zips for that one. No Bowling for the Zips this year! Hopefully JD can get better leadership and play next year from his boys!! Quote
RACER Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 it's amazing how fast some fans can turn on a player.all i heard last year mid way through the season was to bench luke.i could see him taking the blame except that 1.we are most penalized team in the mac.2. the short yardage and red zone are terrible. 3. most games are leading rusher has about 50 yards. how many times have we been inside the ten. and come away with nothing.where does this great defense come from last year. our d was horrible and memphis, and niu. i do think we should play cj now only becuase the mac chmapionship, and bowl bids are done. RACER Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 the point is -everyone is blaming luke for the losses this year.alott of the same fans wanted him benched midway throught last season also. the reason we are losing is because we are the most penalized team in the mac, coaches can't make adjustments at halftime, and we have no running game. the perfect example of the coaching staff is at Can't.crouch was getting his butt kicked by Can't's defensive end all day.why didn't akron keep a back ,or te in to help him.instead akron just usuing the same pass protection, and luke kept getting killed. to blame luke for the losses this season is crazy.there are alott of other problems starting with the coaching staff on down. Quote
Ballingirl Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 I totally agree that there are more problems than Luke. The way I see it though, a QB is supposed to be one of the key leaders on a team. He is supposed to be able to pull an offensive unit together to work as a team. And most importantly, he is supposed to give other guys the chance to get their job done. He is anything but a leader on that team. How are guys supposed to be led by someone who is so inconsistent and weak. Out of all the times he has gotten sacked, I have yet to see the boy take a hit. He practically lays down before they get to him. And even with the win at NC State, he's lucky DK got the ball in on that last drive. He could've scored the TD himself if he wouldn't have slid a yard short of the goal line. It's the end of the game, looking for the game-winning TD, PUT YOUR HEAD DOWN AND GO FOR IT!!! And it's hard for our receivers to be consistent when they aren't getting consistent good passes. Noone can blame an entire loss on one person like that, but he has had a large part. At Toledo, it was 1st and 3. The delay of game from Luke's inability to call for the snap with MORE than 3 seconds left on the play clock, bad passes, a sack and a false start penalty left us at 3rd and 22. Those are the situations where a QB is supposed to step up and get that TD. Luke can never execute in the red zone. 7 offensive points in that game. 7 out of 20. And 14 of Toledo's points came against our offense through interceptions. Tell me that isn't his fault. Our defense held Toledo to 21 points, and NCAA tradition has it, normally when a defense can hold a team to 21 points or less, their team wins the game!! But then again, that's assuming that their offense can get the job done, starting with the QB!!! Quote
fear the brown roo Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 Dude I feel bad that you did all that typing and my response is going to be this simple... 7-5 makes you bowl eligible. i have seen nothing recently to make me believe we are going to go on the road and beat east leader ohio to enable us to finish 7-5. this team is not going to beat western in the finale if te broncos are playing for west championship. we'll be lucky to finish .500. forget the pipe dream of any bowl or even a winning record this year. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 I believe I saw something where there will be a shortage of bowl-eligible teams this year. IF that is true, we should have no problem getting into a bowl game at 6-6, even if it is not one the MAC is contracted with. We can only hope this is the case. Quote
AZipsCrazy Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 That's what I'm saying... there is going to be a shortage of bowl elgible teams this year because of the large disparity of undefeated and one-loss team to the rest of every conference. BUT I believe we have got to be 7-5, but unlike Fear I think we can do it. Ohio is garbage... the have good defense but they can't pass the ball to open up the QB scramble enough and that's where every team has beaten us balanced play and a QB that scrambles. On another note... ITS GAMEDAY BOI and I'm ready for the game today I know we aren't having the season we expected but whatever man, GO ZIPS BABY!!! Quote
Dr Z Posted November 6, 2006 Author Report Posted November 6, 2006 ``I'd like to get Carlton in a series a half (this week),'' Brookhart said.Anybody have a guess to why CJ got no action?I talked to Luke after the game and asked, he said he had no idea about CJ playing. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 ``I'd like to get Carlton in a series a half (this week),'' Brookhart said.Anybody have a guess to why CJ got no action?I talked to Luke after the game and asked, he said he had no idea about CJ playing. Our defense never gave JD a chance to mess with any CJ experiments. In a close game, the staff isn't going to place a kid in who tripped and fumbled on his only play from scrimmage at the helm. The staff needs to win. Luke, despite his red zone INT's, is still our best chance to win. Quote
fear the brown roo Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 i agree. there was absolutely no reason to put cj in the game. luke was on a nice steady roll. maybe he's about to take off on a hot streak again like the end of last season. Quote
Ballingirl Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 I'll give it to him, he had a good game this week.....BUT....based on his consistent inconsistency, and last year's game against Buffalo, look for him to jack it up this week! Quote
TXZipFan Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 C'mon now Ballingirl... I agree with you that he's WAY TOO INCONSISTENT, BUT they are playing Buffalo this week. And NO I don't care what they did to Can't because . Ballingirl, don't you worry CJ will get his PT against Buffalo thats for sure... we should be able to jump on them quick and let CJ take over for the rest of the game. Quote
fear the brown roo Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 don't be so sure about a blowout. last year we squeeked by 13-7. Quote

Ballingirl, don't you worry CJ will get his PT against Buffalo thats for sure... we should be able to jump on them quick and let CJ take over for the rest of the game. I'm simply going by past performances. When we faced Buffalo last year (with a better running back and a lot better receivers and actually using our TE to make plays), we were behind until the 4th quarter. Our offense had 4 possessions totaling less than 2 minutes. I understand that everyone says "it's Buffalo and they only beat Can't because Can't sucks". Fact is, Buffalo beat Can't, Can't beat us, as JD said....transitive property says they should beat us. We also got beat by Toledo which was winless when they beat us. I'm not saying that we don't have the potential to beat them, but knowing our cycle, with having a good game last week, ending in a win, it would not surprise me if we beat ourselves this week. Just like we did at Toledo. We will have to be up by 28 points for JD to put CJ in this week. It is possible....IF WE COME TO PLAY!!! We went into the Buffalo game last year looking past them and almost got beat and that was with a lot better team than we have seen this year! I would rather be pessimistic and be pleasantly surprised than going into this thinking "we got it in the bag" and be pissed at the end of the game! I will still be there supporting my team, and hope to see a win! Quote
gozips19 Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 i saw in rasor's blog that jackson was told he wouldn't have played reguardless. did he do something or was his practice poor heading into the game? Quote
