ZachTheZip
Before you laugh, look at these numbers.Bowl eligible teams (6 wins or more): 49Bubble teams (4-5 wins): 37No Chance (3 or less wins): 33Looking at the schedules, many of the bubble teams play each other, or much stronger teams, eliminating alot of them from contention (especially the teams with only 4 wins). There are currently 64 bowl spots, and (at the moment) 86 teams with a shot. We will know much more about our chances after saturday. I'll come back to this and update it for everyone. IF we win out, we mill most likely have a very good chance of a bowl.

akronad
3 weeks ago, I was about as pessimistic as anyone could be. Bowl game , yeah, sure, right. Now, if we win 1 or both of final games, we will have an ggod shot at a bowl game. Remember the fans that we took to Detroit last year? I guarantee you that the bowl committees remember and know that information. They want to get the most people to their game as possible to promote their city/region.That being said, the only question I have remaing, is are we going to Mobile, Detroit, Toronto or Birmingham.GO ZIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ballingirl
Guarantee the only shot we have at taking that many people again is if it close (Detroit or Toronto). Buses will not go to Birmingham or Mobile, and you know people won't do that on their own! So bring on the close bowls!
Lee Adams
hey folks...only 7-5 gets you to Toronto or anywhere else for that matterbut OU has some bigger "Roos" to fry.unless the Zips want OU to get the division on their watch JD and the D better figure out how to stop the ground game...OU IS the Zip's bowl game..see you in Athens...akronoldtimer
Ballingirl
In this post and the After Buffalo post, Lee Adams seems to believe the OU win will be determined by the D. Did he forget the production of our offense this year? In order to win a game, the offense does have to score. And as anyone who has seen the games this year knows, that's easier said that done with our offense. We don't exactly have red zone productivity! He has seemed to have all bad to say about the D and nothing to say about the O? Got a "friend" on the O or what's the reasoning?
Z.I.P.
Actually there are only 63 spots left... but who's counting.Navy accepts bowl bidACTUALLY, there are only 62 spots left. Hawai'i accepted their tenth home game of the season (the Hawai'i Bowl host) prior to Navy accepting.Interestingly, unless UCLA goes undefeated in three underdog games, and Washington (with four straight losses) beats Stanford AND Washington State, the Hawai'i Bowl will be looking for an at-large opponent for the Warriors. That will be the case for several other non-BCS bowls as well. A seven-win Akron team will almost certainly go somewhere -- but it could be San Diego, SanFrancisco, Boise, or God-knows-where. The International Bowl in Toronto vs Pitt (as CBS Sportsline predicted before the season) would be my preference. There will be anywhere between 64 and 70 total bowl-eligible teams. Two years ago, UA was the only bowl-eligible team not bowling (have we forgotten so soon?). I think 6 wins makes Akron a 40-60 pick. Seven wins, and it goes to 80-20.One of those we have to thank for this is TOLEDO! They gave the Huskies a crack in the fog Thursday NIU is singing the Blues again. zipboy
With CMU's thumping over WMU, if we win out, I think that we are the favorites for the 3rd bowl in Toronto.
Captain Kangaroo
We need to beat a pretty good OU team on the road this Thursday. We do that, we're in great shape. Can we? We haven't beaten a decent team since early September, so I'm skeptical. To win, we need to stop the run and keep penalties low. That's something we haven't done all that well for 10 games. Keep the game close, and let Luke work his late-game magic. Luke's played well the past few weeks. We need him to keep it up.
Lee Adams
7-5 is the ONLY way to postseasonToronto is not so bad>>>ya..i know the O has been inconsistent and believe me i ain't no Getsy fan...this is the ZIPS BOWL GAME for now on Thursday gang...the D HAS to give the O a short field AND stop those 80-90 yard drives that killed them against central m and toledo...we'll be in athens... this is the REAL test for the COACHES and players...lets see how good 'ol JD and his staff are at real prep...hopin' its the signature game for these guys...GO ZIPS!akronoldtimer
ZachTheZip
Here are the stats as of 11/20.Bowl eligible teams (6 wins or more): 69Bubble teams: 8No Chance: 42There are 4 bowl-eligible teams already in the MAC. We have no chance. That 6-6 bowl requirement actually hurts the smaller conference teams. I am glad the season is almost over. I don't know if I could stand watching this team any longer than 12 games. So, who is ready for Basketball?
Big Zip
Top it off Fox Sports has Can't going to the MPC Bowl. What an incredible disappointment. Years past when we were really hoping they'd win we were the only ones. This year we had media and even non-UA fans on our side and they choke. My question is this -- is this a bigger choke job than the Owens era? No Owens team was ever favored by this much to do something good and then fall flat on their face. Where does the blame go -- all we read about are the spectacular kids JD is recruiting yet on the field is where the rubber meets the road and this year was a big dud. With a new QB and O-line next year how can we expect this team to be any better next year? I think this year was the beginning of at least a two-year slide and that really bums me out. OSU returns most of their defense -- can a new o-line help CJ enough -- will we get to see a Frye like intro to the college football ala the OSU game?
