Post Game Thoughts

THE GOOD------------1) Dru Joyce - 23 points, many of them big. 2) Jeremiah Wood - I was surprised to see he only had 9/5...I thought he played great3) Quade Milum - 5/7, with 6 of those boards being offensive. I like him more and more every time I see him play. 4) The AK-Rowdies and crowd that did show up. Loud and proud...really made a difference in the 2nd half. 5) We are for real. Nevada is a heckuva team with a future lottery pick on their team. This is not a loss to be ashamed of. THE BAD------------1) Romeo Travis - I might get rocked for this one...but I really thought this was the game Romeo was going to step up. He's a good solid collegiate player, and nothing more...and his missed free throws were a killer. And what's with breaking the team rules so much? He's a senior and supposedly the best player...he needs to act like it. 2) Nick Dials - 1 of 4 from 3 point land, and most of them were good looks. 3) Nate Linhart starting over Jimmy Conyers. Conyers is bigger, more athletic, and has wayyyy more upside. Time to make the switch Coach D. THE UGLY-------------1) 14 of 23 from the free throw line...61%....the deciding factor in the game, period. 2) I hate to harp on this...I really do...but why were two of my friends, AKRON STUDENTS, turned away from sitting down low but two little kids were allowed to? Look..I'm not arguing that the kids shouldn't be down there, cuz I'm sure that was cool for them. But if you're going to deny STUDENTS from the STUDENT section, you better damn well not let two little kids sit down there. 3) And to follow that up...what a disappointment in seeing the other "student" section having zero effect on the game. I blame the students for not showing up more, the leaders of AK-Rowdy for continuing to push away Akron faithful because of their shirt rule and because "it's too late to sign up"...and I blame the athletic department for selling off tickets to fans who might as well have not even showed up. You never, ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER push away your students trying to support the team...and yet it continues to happen. All in all, what a great game...two top teams duking it out...I'm VERY proud of the Zips.

Big Big props to fellow AK-Rowdies....the students who did show up brought the A game!We were only able to fill one side though so maybe a wise move by the department to open up the other section to the public for break? As for the game, we were neck and neck with a big time team. Granted they would have won by a lot more at their place, we played well. Free throw shooting lost us this one folks and we cannot afford to slack off in this area for MAC play.I think Conyers will come along. He made some nice drives to the hole and seemed more in sync out there at times. Wood had some nice moves in the paint and burned Fazikis a few times. I enjoyed that. Travis could have played better. We needed him to sink some free throws and turn it up a notch tonight to get a win. Milum is a Leapfrog! He really gets up there for rebounds and I think we held our own in that category. We just shot ourselves at times with dumb mistakes. Here is some good new though that may make you all feel better. Can't loses to YSU at the MACC!:lol::lol::lol::screwks:

I agree with everything you say except for this. The problem wasn't students showing up. The problem was that a TON of students were sitting up high in general admission because the didn't have "the shirt" and/or because it was "too late for them to sign-up"...I'll re-state what I have said time and time again. You NEVER, EVER deny student fans who want to sit in the STUDENT section. I don't give a damn what they're wearing as long as they're making a ton of noise and cheering on the Zips. The fact that open spaces weren't filled up on both sides because some students didn't have a shirt and were unable to still sign up for one is ridiculous and embarrassing. Somebody better step up and make a change, or else the student section will dwindle more and more over time. :puke:

I was sittingon the north side in the student section, and by the second time-out, the people in charge of the Rowdies were begging for people to sit in the lower section. Maybe when the marketing department can promise 4000 fans, they can start making demands for more students.
Maybe they shouldn't have turned away student fans in the first 3 games and tonight in the first place? But I guess 3/4 of one section wearing the same shirt is better than two full or almost full sections of Zips fans in various outfits... :wall:

I'd have to agree with Travis being listed in the 'bad' column. He just looks like he hates being on the court anymore.I'd also have to trade middleton for dials in the 'bad' column. Dials was 1 of 4, and 2 were partially blocked and one he was fouled on (not mostly open looks). Ced, on the other hand, was 1 of 7, and they were pretty much all open shots. What killed it for us though was foul shooting.Ced and Nick combined were 6 of 6 from the stripe, so the rest of the team gets the blame for that. It was a team loss all around, but still, we could've beaten them.

Great game overall...the announced attendance of 3302 is disappointing but the environment was electric. A lot of credits goes for the rowdies, around me, lots of people lost their voices, and were sweating from jumping up and down and making noise.Too bad we lost the game, looking back, we did some unforced turnovers, and we were the victims of bad calls but the bottom line, had Romeo made 3/5 FT which is a normal 60% FT%, the game would have been tied. If he made 4/5, which is a decent but very common 80% FT%, we would have one.At this point, the OOC games don't matter anymore, we are not going to get an at large bid by beating Winston Salem, Niagara and Youngstown... the zips have to grab that MAC championship to get the big dance ticket.

I thought we played very well.Linhart played his best game of the year. Conyers finally showed flushe.s of his potential. Dru was off the hook. Milum battled hard. Wood was great. We played a very good basketball game against a great team. Too bad Dru's last shot didn't fall.Middleton was off tonight. But he played hard 100% of the time. Dials wasn't on either, but didn't hurt us. Overall he played well.Travis needs to get his act together. That first half performance was embarassing. No effort. I'm astonished to see a senior MAC POTY candidate missing team meetings and pouting on the floor. He can be like Anthony Stacey or Brandon Hunter and carry us on his back...or he can sleepwalk and pout. I hope the fire he showed in the second half last night means he's decided he wants to play. His attitude is the difference between us being "good" and being "great."Sucks to lose...but as the immortal Dan Hipsher once said: "Sometimes you gotta remember - The other team wants to win too." Nevada has a ton of talent and played very hard. Teams like that are tough to beat.

nevada guard play really surprised me.those guys were pretty athletic, and busted some three's. that was the one area i thought we might have an advantage. i thought wood and milmum played well considering how big nevada was.i know you are not supposed to make excuses, but not having him probably cost us the niu game.conyers also looked like he is coming on. it looks to me like kd is building a solid program for the next few years.

There is no freakin way UIC could have beaten us if J-wood was on the court.
