zipfan 81
Where is Nick Goddard in a game like this? I thought I heard Dambrot say when we see a zone Nick is getting in... he could of really helped us last night. Yeah we lost Walther because of defense but look at what his offense is doing for Ohio U. He is winning games for them, sometimes it's not all about defense! Bleacher Bum
We were wondering the same thing last night. When Goddard plays, he scores.
74ZIP
how 'bout that Bubba Walther!...maybe Dambrot needs to loosen his shorts a little and learn to deal with people who don't necessarily look at the game through the same glasses he does... You'd really want Bubba Walther back? Bubba Walther is a spineless piece of sh*t. Someone gives you competition for playing time, so you go behind your school's back and set up a transfer? A real man would have stepped up his game and shown he DESERVED more playing time than the other guy...a real man wouldn't have gone behind his team's back to set up a transfer while still wearing a Zips uniform. Bubba Walther is a decent player who lacks even an ounce of intestinal fortitude in his skinny ass body. I'd take all three of Dru, Ced, and Dials over him in a heartbeat. zipsbandman
The reason Bubba looks so great at Ohio is because Akron is not about one player. It's about spreading it around and playing team basketball. Some nights Ced does the most. Soetimes it is Dru, and sometimes Dials gets hot on the perimeter. That is how we play. We count on everybody to step up. I don't want skinny little Bubba back. I never was a fan. The Rowdies better be all over him from tipoff to buzz. I don't care if you hate Bubba, but at least get your facts straight.

I don't care if you hate Bubba, but at least get your facts straight. We played an easy schedule and went very deep on the bench most of the time. If you're just looking at the starting 5, then its probably not going to tell you much. Maybe all five of your starters average double digits, but our bench contributes just as much as our starters. They are doing a lot of the scoring too. We shuffle it around a lot, and Bubba never wanted to be on the bench. You're system suits him more and even Dambrot said so. Pedro
That's fine, just as long as you recognize that we are hardly about one player.

FearTheRoo
Bubba is gone because of his defense, not his offense. He fits well in a program that highlights a few players offensively and play a zone defense exclusively.
Zip_ME87
Actually, I wondered where Nick Goddard was at the end of the Nevada game. Akron down by 2 points and gets to inbound at half court. Why not throw it in to Goddard and let him have the final shot?

Yeah we lost Walther because of defense but look at what his offense is doing for Ohio U. He is winning games for them, sometimes it's not all about defense! If we're looking for a 6' guard who can hit a 3-pointers, we have three already in Joyce, Dials and Middleton. I don't see the need to place Goddard in the game. The times I've seen Goddard shoot the ball in "real" games, he's no better a shooter than what we've already had on the court. He "goes off" once or twice per year in garbage time, but in the few legit opportunities I've witnessed he's looked pretty mortal.
gozips19
agree, pleas stop it with the goddard threads. he's a walk on for a reason
zipboy
A turning point in the 1st half against us vs Nevada was when Goddard came in. Zips were up 27-24, everyone stood around and Nevada scored a few quick buckets before Dambrot called time.I don't see Goddard as the answer. At the same time, if I play Akron I play a match up zone. Make us throw the ball around the perimeter for 25 seconds and then throw up a crappy shot. The last pure shooter that we had who could give decent minutes was Faulknor. I am sure that KD hoped Rybak could be that type of guy but I don't see it happening. This Thursday will be a good test. If I am Miami, I slow it down and pack the zone in. Bleacher Bum
I'm not saying he's better than Dials, Joyce, or Middleton. Not by a long shot. I'd just like to see him get some more minutes. Plus, for some reason the Rowdies love him and they'll get loud.
hoopla
i agree with the stopping of goddard threads. that is just stupid. the moment we see that is the moment we start trying people out for next year and giving this year up. joyce, dials, and middleton are all good shooters. it is about time that KD will try to open shots up for these guys instead of beating in down low to those who give no effort on D. those three give nothing but hard work and hustle night in and night out. especially dials and middleton. heck, the games ive seen (home ones and YSU & OU) dials gets nothing but garbage points from just being smart... nothing is keyed for him on the offensive end. avg. about 10 from smarts, i wonder what he would get if we tried to get him a few more shots in a game besides 4-5 attempts. same goes with Joyce most of the time.just to add on to the notes on goddard..... not only is he a walkon as someone has already mentioned and he is prob our 5 guard, but he is only a catch and shoot kind of player. as someone else mentioned before, when he gets real min i think he is shooting about 30-35%. eveyone knows he is one dementional and it is easy to take that away, regardless if you play man or zone. not to metion the liability he is on the other end. and OU played a matchup zone with is pretty much man2man. there is just no way.
