Anti-Rowdies Group Formed

Now before anyone jumps on me...I didn't start/join this group lol. And I'm not supporting it. Just posting something I saw that I thought everyone would find interest in. http://uakron.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2230960377&ref=nfFor those of you without Facebook that can't check it out, it says the following:"I believe that the AK ROWDIES are an embarrassment to The Univeristy of Akron. If you are an Akron fan who does not wish to be associated with the Ak ROWDIES join this group and speak out!"And the most interesting parts to this story...1) I looked at the girl's profile who started the group...there is a picture of her at the game and under the comments, there is one from Jeremy Sallee saying "MUCH LOVE TO THE ANTI-AK ROWDIES REPPIN' HARD!!! PUT EM TO SALLEEP!! HAHA YESSIR"2) Checked out the members...Dru Joyce, Quade Milum and Jimmy Conyers are also in the group. And before we bash these guys, please note that athletes on Facebook sometimes get so many requests and stuff that they just accept without even looking at it, so I dunno..might be the case here, might not be.I have a feeling that this is going to get ugly though...

Oh great, I know the girl that started this group... so not surprising.I'm going to guess they started it out of jealousy for the great seats Rowdies don't sit in, but rather jump around on while screaming their heads off. They probably wanted to get down on the floor but couldn't because they didn't want to pay a whopping 10 bucks back during football season. :champs:

Had this big ol' post planned out in my head...but i'm gonna have to go with the ol' "What he said."Oh...and I sure hope those fellas dont honestly want to support that bull-dookie of these little girls who want to attend one game a year and get upset when they can't choose their seat. Pay your ten dollars next year and you can get your shirt and a ticket to the one game you'll attend. I'm sure we won't see them at any more...well maybe OU.I swear, some people should do more constructive things with their time.:zzz:

I noticed that too. Somethings not right here. If they start inviting everyone they know we could have a major problem. I knew they were alienating people. Heck, even I talked about starting a different group a while back because I couldn't join, but I was never all that serious about it. I don't think that the athletes realise that they are in this group but if they did join it on purpose, we have a real big problem.

OK. One more post on this asinine 'group.'*Never a big fan of Jeremy Sallee, hope coach catches wind of this bull and pushes him farther down the pine than his 4.8 minutes.*Dru Joyce: surprised, seems legitimately into the student support. One of the few that acknowledges the crew during game time. Really hope he joined the group without paying attention.*I'm glad the girl with her business hangin out for all to see is proud enough of the fact that a previous post about it from this board is quoted on her facebook (I now know you read this)*Just because you want to go to the "big" game and can't get the seats you want is a particularly stupid reason to start such a group. Notify me once those sections are full every week and you've showed up to every game having to sit at the top. Oh, and if it's the idea that you couldn't join that's pissing you off, 99% of us agree that not allowing sign ups is aggravating and stupid. :mad_flame: *Don't want to pay $10 for your shirt and season tickets within 5 feet of the court? Yeah, I guess I'd be mad too if I had to pay $10 to go to one game. Ask the kids in Big Ten schools if they'd like to get season tickets for $10. Hell, ask some OU students. And if it's about the "nazi" t-shirt rule, a lot of us don't agree with that either.*Grow up. Real fans support their team all season. I'm sure I'll see you all out on Sunday against buffalo. Enjoy those bleachers if by chance you do show up.

I think that this topic is getting way more attention that it deserves. The anti-rowdies group exist only on facebook and in the immagination of the people who created it... as most of you know, those people show up only for one game a year. Unfortunately, some of the rowdies, who actually registered and paid their fees didn't get to sit there, because the lower sections can only seat 150 students. If we had 500 rowdies for every game, we would have a legitimate petition to ask for more space, but for 95% of the games, we can't even fill our seats...so don't expect the rowdies to kick the loyal ones to give you their seats.

Then these people should come to games early. I mean come on. There were like 50 people who actually came at 5:30 against Can't. Those people who came late will not be at the other remaining games. Bank on it. If we had an influx of students every game I bet the athletic department would consider adding more seats down behind the basket. It's their fault for not coming to all the games. The athletic department is partly to blaim too because they've tried to do too much and most of it did not work. They need to fix this and stop alientating the students, and the students need to grow up.

rowdyzip, i agree with your comments. that girl seems to be one of those college girls that never matured past their hs days. Grow Up. the Rowdies are pretty good. the problem i would say is their seating. 4 rows on each end? give me a break. what about giving them somthing on the side of the court? i realize this may be a little excessive until the rowdies expand however. maybe not because i notice at times there are some rowdies in above sections. from her business hanging out, did you mean from the top, bottom or the sides? :puke:

Before you guys keep ripping on this girl, maybe you should know that she's been an athletic department employee for going on 4 years, first at the ticket office and now as a secretary in the football office and she has more love, dedication, and closeness to zips athletics than any of you "Rowdies". So she wants to start her own student group because she and a number of others have been shut out for a group that struggles for members to being with. So what? Who's fault is that? Making fun of her appearance is also pretty low, especially considering that she's a pretty attractive girl and well out of any of your leagues.

1) How do you know she has more love and dedication to athletics than any of the Rowdies? Because she worked for athletics that makes her a bigger fan than the rest of us? Give me a break. I'm sure she loves the Zips, and I think that's great. But I've also been supporting these teams for 7 years as a die hard fan...just because I don't get a paycheck from them doesn't mean I don't love the Zips just as much if not more? 2) Who made fun of her appearance? Please, quote the person...I don't see it. 3) I have no problem with her starting her own student group. But wouldn't it be better to not start a war against fellow fans/students and come up with a different name for her group? 4) She is a pretty girl, I'd def. agree with that...but out of everyone's league? C'mon dude...first of all, I've yet to meet a girl in Akron that I felt was out of my league...and second, how can you say something like that without even knowing a thing about anyone here? Just a pretty stupid comment to finish your post on.

Oh. so she was one of those girls a couple years back that sat in the ticket office rolling her eyes at me when i made her leave her cell phone momentarily to grab me a student ticket? Maybe the athletics department should have something to say about her ripping on/mocking a group sponsored by her employers?More love, dedication, and closeness huh? That takes a lot of cojones to come on here and say that.

1) Because I've talked to her on a number of occasions and she's been very helpful in everything I've asked her to do, she's close with many of the athletes, she attends sporting events like it's her job, and she helps make the football office run. Have you attended as many athletic events as her over the past few years? Probably not. Are you close with as many athletes as her? Probably not. Do you make the football office run? No you don't. I'm glad you're a big fan but the fact of the matter is making stupid ass comments about her only being a casual fan compared to some of you "the alpha fans" is just stupid and ignorant.2) The comments about her appearance have been deleted, thanks to the mods, except for this classic by hoopla " from her business hanging out, did you mean from the top, bottom or the sides?" Shows the childishness of many in your group who come on here and talk about a girl "hanging out on the sides" when she's no where close to being fat. Like I said, she's a knockout and idiotic comments like that are what skew girls' self images.3) When a bunch of dedicated students who love the Zips just as much if not more than you get shut out of a student group, a student group that I'm sorry but sucks to begin with, then yeah I'd say that's grounds for starting your own group.4) Dude she could have athletes. None of the "rowdies" would have a prayer.

1) I didn't say she was a casual fan. Please, quote me in saying that. Again, you put words into people's mouths to try to support your argument. I said it was silly to claim that WE weren't as big of a fan as she was. And FYI, I've been to all but about 6 or 7 basketball and football games in 7 years...I've attended many road games, including Central Michigan, Ohio State, and BG...I went to Detroit for both the MAC Title game and Bowl game...I've been to every MAC tournament game the Zips have played in 7 years. So yes, I'd match my attendance at athletic events to most people. Finally, what does her being friends with the players have to do with being a fan? My dad had been a die-hard Indians fan for 50 years...he doesn't hang out with Grady Sizemore though...so by your logic, that would mean he's not a die hard fan? 2) I didn't happen to see any remarks about her appearance, but if there were some I agree that it was wrong to say. But again...why generalize? Because one person said something, that means everyone is childish? 3) Define "shut out". I believe they had an opportunity to sign up to join the group, did they not? And seeing as how they worked in the ticket office, they knew that the lower sections would be reserved for only those who signed up to be AK-Rowdies, correct? Heck, according to the wall on the group's page, the girl that started the "Anti-Rowdies" didn't want to join. And that's fine...but that was her choice, she wasn't "shut out".4) Your 4th comment shows how idiotic you truly are. Do you think Akron is like Friday Night Lights or something? Jesus dude, time for a reality check. "She could have athletes"...well that's great. Maybe it's a big deal at USC or Ohio State or Florida to be able to date the top athletes, but who cares at a mid-major school? I love our players, I really do...but how are they any different from the rest of UA students? None of them (bball players) are going pro, none of them have any endorsements coming. When their four years are up, they'll go into the career of their choice just like the rest of us and start normal lives, just like the rest of us. If you want to treat them like Gods, that's cool...but to the rest of us, they're guys just like us who happen to be good at basketball. "She could have athletes"...that just made my day, thanks lol.As for her being out of my league, again...she's a very pretty girl, but personally, I don't see any Akron girl of my league, her included. And I'm not even on the team!

As an older fan, I am finding this all rather troubling...First of all, why does it matter what this girl looks like? And why does anyone need to comment that none of the Rowdies are worthy of her? That's all quite meaningless and immature.I do feel that it's inappropriate for someone to start another student group, and make it an "anti" to another student group. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of all of us banding together to support our programs? And this is someone that works in the athletic department? I'm baffled. But besides that...I say...the more the merrier. I'm glad to see student interest on the increase.

1) I'm talking to all of you baffoons in general. Many said something about these people "only coming to one game a year". Dead wrong. And thanks for your support of Zips athletics, but yes, the fact that she's close to the team and helps the whole thing operate as a secretary is pretty meaningful. The point was that as an individual she is more important to the athletic department than any of you, so stop with all the idiotic comments about your superiority as "fans" (again, all of you in general, not just you sgm).2) Multiple people made comments. A few were deleted, some remain. It wasn't an isolated incident and it shows a lot of immaturity.3) When your student group sucks, the last thing you want to do is try to act like it's some elite club and not let other students sit with you. That's what the group have obviously done, you pissed off a pretty large percentage of students, and thus your membership will never grow and the group will probably die. Congratuations.4) Where to begin man, other than to say that you're obviously in denial. Sure, at places like OSU the athletes are a bigger deal, but starting in junior high football and basketball players always get whatever girls they want and the rest of the student population is left with the rest. Most junior high and high school athletes aren't going pro, but they sure get the girls. Even at D2 and D3 colleges the athletes are in pretty high demand. Just face it my man, if you had a girlfriend and Luke Getsy or Romeo Travis wanted her, you can kiss her goodbye. It was that way when I was at Akron and I could only imagine its moreso now. The point: don't make fun of a girl's appearance just because she's got her pick of the big boys and you can't have her. That's all. Thanks for supporting Zips athletics, but please don't ever personally attack a beautiful young lady who works in the athletic department again. Good night.

And oh yeah, I checked that little facebook site, and it looks like these students have quite a bit of support from the athletes:Members:Meghan Olberding (soccer)Jacque Pitchford (soccer)Tim Zetts (football)John Martin (football)Charlie Allen (baseball)Billy McKinney (baseball)Quade Milum (basketball)Jessica Fix (soccer)Jimmy Conyers (basketball)Chris Jacquemain (football)Dru Joyce (basketball)Mike Ward (football)Will probably grow the more and more you guys alienate their friends and attack someone who works hard for their program.sgm, all of this is to say that if you're truely the leader of the Rowdies, then best thing you can do right now is first of all apologize to Holly, and secondly to apologize to all of the students who have been put out by this mess and invite them all into your group and to sit in the seats with you guys. The people in the athletic department will listen if you go to them and tell them that's what you want to do. But you, not as an individual but as a representative of your group, owe her and all the other students an apology.

1) Why don't you respond to the things I wrote in my last post? 2) How did anyone alienate or "shut out" those girls? As I said before, didn't they have an opportunity to sign up to join the group? And seeing as how they worked in the ticket office, they knew that the lower sections would be reserved for only those who signed up to be AK-Rowdies, correct? And didn't they attack the AK-Rowdies before anyone attacked them? 3) Who cares that the athletes joined their group? As pointed out by many, they probably just clicked accept without looking at what it was. Dru Joyce is constantly interacting with the student sections...I'd be shocked to find out that he really was against them. 4) Are you dating any of those athletes? Because dude, you would be soooooo cool if you did. I mean, you would sooo have a chance at Prom King!

Dude, do you even read my posts? I'm not the leader of the Rowdies, where did I say that? I'm just throwing my two cents in. I don't owe Holly an apology for anything. Why do I, and why does anyone else? I never attacked her, I never said anything bad about her, and I wasn't the one who denied her lower seating. All that I've said was that she's a great fan, that she is pretty, and that I thought she could have gone about voicing her opinion better than she did. And again, i was just commenting from an outside perspective. Maybe I don't know everything that went down, but based on what I do know, I don't think anyone owes her an apology. While I don't condone any remarks that may have been deleted that were directed towards her, she did fire the first shots. She started the "Anti-Rowdies", she called them an "embarrassment" to the University. If you're going to attack fellow students who did nothing to you and had nothing to do with the decisions made about who sits where, you sure as heck better not complain when some shots are fired back in your direction. She's probably a very nice girl and I think it's cool that you're defending her, I really do. She sounds like a die-hard Zips fan and I am all for showing love to the Zips. And I have no problems with her voicing her opinion on changes that need to be made...I did it earlier in the season. But starting an "Anti-Rowdies" group and calling fellow students/fans who did nothing to her an "embarrassment" to the University was a horrible way to go with things. If the athletic department listens, and she works for the department...why not just go to them with her issues?

I've responded to everything you had to say.Maybe you missed the last part of my last post too. But that's cool, instead of apologizing to those kids and helping your group you can be a little ignorant prick. You're welcome to do that too.
Haha I'm an ignorant little prick now? Well damn...I better try to find an athlete to date soon so I can be cool again! :thumb:

Now sgm405 and I have had our differences in the past, but I can respect what he has to say. IntheZone ... my oh my. I don't even know what the hell is happening any more. At first I was going to post about how this reminds me a lot of when the nWo split up, becoming the hollywood faction and the wolfpac. Now, it just amazes me me how someone like inthezone can be so freaking shallow. allow me to throw this out there.1: I like many others here, have not missed a home game in 5+years. There are people here like the Capt. whom have dedicated VAST amounts of time and $ into zips athletics. Her working a ticket window doesn't mean shit to me. Starting an anti anything Akron group is retarded.2: are you just trying to get laid with this whole speech about how amazing she is and how she is "out of everyone's league"? WHO THE HELL GOES BY A LEAGUE SYSTEM? Christ, are we in 6th grade? If all you care about it is her tits and what she looks like, then you truly are a shallow piece of shit.3: Here is the kicker. You ready for this one? A friend of mine went to high school with her. I met her a couple of times. Graduated a year or two before her, but none the less. She seemed nice enough. Wasn't even close to being this all mighty goddess that you seem to worship. A spoiled, high maintenance typical Lake High School conservative maybe. Ohhhh she could get athletes. Do us all a favor, the next time you think about opening your mouth to talk, just stick your high school graduation tassel, that we all know is hanging from your rear view mirror, down your throat. I don't agree with half the things the Rowdies have done to alienate people, but they are still the only resemblance of a student section we have. If idiots like her want to go off and be anti rowdie, what ever. If athletes are dumb enough to support it, then whatever. More power to them. They all can look back fondly in 5 years when they are working some meaningless job, reminiscing about how they "stuck it to the only people who supported their teams"I'm usually the biggest asshole around here (mostly I say stuff to get people riled up. Makes this board interesting.) but congrats Inthezone. You have taken that title away from me. Bravo. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go gossip about how Billy totally likes Amanda, but Amanda secretly likes Jake.
