Guest Zip88 Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 The PSU boards have been prognosticating for weeks. Figured maybe we should start too... By the way, the PSU'ers do read this board... they copy stuff constantly and post it... As a homer, I'd like to be optimitstic... Let's assume JD has a plan and wants to make a big splash in his debut... #5 brings his game and the Zips along with him.... Zips win in a shoot-out 35-31. This sets the ESPN going ga-ga ... Corso and gang brodcast from Rubber Bowl before Marshall game as Zips and Herd play for East Title.....too over the top???? Ok, realistically...If Zips survive the first quarter emotion from PSU and hang around, then the game is on... Reach half time within striking distance or ahead and Lions start looking over shoulder and pressing. Keep in it in the the third and Beaver Stadium gets quieter and quieter (shades of Toledo -- I know we are not Toledo). Make it to the fourth quarter and you never know, #5 has pulled a rabbit out of his hat before... Should we win? Probably not. But I sure would love to have a win over a name program before I shuffle off to the retirement home. Wisconsin game last year... Zips had me believing... JD, Charlie.... lead us to the promised land!!! Quote
2005PANTHER Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 I think it is definately possible for them to win this. I have a gut feeling that if the Zips don't win the game will be close. I see a possible upset. I hope the defense has improved. Quote
Guest Dr. Who Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 Akron lost its best runningback, its 3 best receivers, its best tight end, its best offensive lineman from a team that had to come from double-digits back of two awful teams in the last two games last season to scrape a 5-5 record against division one opponents. The defense was bad last season and their is no new talent this season to step in and be the magic cure. The field goal kicker is erratic and there is a new staff in place coaching its first game together. Wake up and smell the coffee, this one is going to hurt. Penn State +30. Quote

That would all make sense...IF Penn Stae weren't coming off a 3-9 season where their only wins were against Temple, Can't State and Indiana. Penn State would be lucky to beat CW Post by 30 points this season, let alone the Zips. Zips 31-17...toothless Lions barely put up a fight. If/when the game gets out of hand, PLEASE, Zips fans...BE CLASSY. Remember how bad it felt when we used to get drubbed. You're representing the University of Akron. Show some respect! Quote
zipboy Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 I am not driving 5 1/2 hours 1 way with no hope. Zips 31-28. Looking forward to experiencing State College and the Penn State environment. I believe in the boys. Go Zips! Quote
Guest Mastodon Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 Just not going to happen. It's the Zips 1st game and it's on the road. Akron 19 Penn State 34 Quote

How do you back up your boast that Akron can beat Penn State. Seems like your other Akron fans don't even think theZip squad can win. What makes you so confident? Also, I agree about CW Post - they are stong again this year. Quote
Zipsrifle Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 Zip 88 Now, to my take...I'm glad that all the PSU guys know how Akron is going to do 'cause I don't. The folks on this board have been following this program closer than anyone outside of the UA Athletic Dept. Though we we have an idea of what JD implimented, he's done a pretty good job of keeping things under wraps. For that reason alone, PSU should be wary. What little info that has trickled out makes me believe that the Zips WILL BE IN THIS GAME! The guys on the team liked the old coach a lot, the first thing that JD did that said he is special was keep the best college QB in the country from turning pro! This is a feat when you're a middle of the pack MAC team. He has also turned up the conditioning a notch. We lost 3 games late in the 4th last year partly because we ran out of steam....we've got a bigger boiler this year. Sure Dr. Who, you can say we almost went 5-5 last year, I say we were even closer to 10-2....hey, now I sound like a PSU fan! Yes we've taken a hit on the offensive side of the ball. Here are a few more reasons why PSU should be wary. We've got the top returning offensive player back. Keep thinking that Frye won't hurt you 'cause he lost his receivers. When the PSU D is having a hard time tracking him down and our "Phantom" receivers get balls hitting them chest all day, you'll change your tune, just like Wisconsin did. Oh yea, we lost our best running back. Hmmm, well, I think we'll be fine in that dept. See....the Slugs couldn't figure out why LO didn't play Ringer more last year. When he did get to play, he averaged 8 yards a carry. I think that the reason he didn't play as much last year was that LO wanted Hendry to have another 1000 yard season. Hendry was a GREAT Back but it would have been nice for Ringer to get more carries. I think that Ringer will have lots of rest during the PSU game too, since Biggs has apparently been as good as Ringer running the ball during camp. Receivers. Yup, Charlie will have no one to throw too. Especially since Ellington with his 28 games of experience is back from an injury hampered season last year. Too bad that he'll probably take a back seat to Hixon who's moved from DB to receiver per Supermans request. Hixon was recruited as a receiver and LO moved him to DB. And our coaching staff is not going to know how to train new receivers either. I mean JD coached 2 Biletnikoff award winner at Pitt, what good is that! In addition to the Offense, I think our Defense will be better than last years. True, our D hasn't been the best in the past few years, but that means there is only one way to go. From the sounds of it JD has not only changed the Defensive scheme, but he has also installed a new attitude. We've got our core back and it sounds like we're going to be attacking more. Again from the trickle of info out of camp, sounds like the D is much improved. Bottom line, we won't know what is going to happen till game day. Sounds like JD is a pretty straight shooter and if that's true, I like our chances from what I've heard. So...here's my call. First Q, JD mixes it up and Frye works his magic with "No" receivers. Put PSU on their heels. State comes back but the Zips keep it close for 2 and 3. Late in the Forth, Zips down by 3, First and one on the goal (shades of Wisconsin). Zips punch it in. The D makes a stand Zips win and shock the nation 42-38. Paterno gets fired, Frye becomes the sweetheart as the underdog Heisman candidate. Go Zips! Quote
Guest Guest_Man-O-War Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 Yo Zips! You would not believe how many college fb fans in NJ, Md, Ohio, Pa and Delaware are pullin for you to beat the Nasty Valley Nit Wit whiners! Thousans trust me. The only people who like thee State Pen/Pansy State/PSUcks are State Pen'ers themselves. So. Do the rest of us a huge favor and whup their big fat, slow, ugly butts and send them to another humiliating 3-9 season. Then, listen to their alma mater: wahhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh lol lol Go Zips! Dr Z Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 I hope to see some defense in this game. Maybe even a defensive score (in that case add 7 to my score.) I see a lower scoring game than most, with JD trying to control the clock by running the ball and playing good D. I'm interested in seeing his first couple of offensive series. How will he play? Conservative , run, run pass? Or will he try to catch them with a Jabari around end  WR pass down field? Anyway, I can't wait ! Zips 21 PSU 17 Could go either way, but we have Charlie and I think he is the X factor in this game. I like a late game winning drive by Charlie and company. Quote
Guest bpd115 Posted September 2, 2004 Report Posted September 2, 2004 Good luck Zips... I'm leaving for State College tomorrow afternoon. Please remember this PSU team is not the same one that left the field last season. That team was weighed down by dead wood seniors. Frye is the Best QB we will face all year, but this will be a game of ball control for PSU. Run run run run play action, run run run. Frye will not be on the field as much as you need him to be and PSU will pound the ball until Akron's D wears out by the 4th. PSU 35 - Akron 14. Quote
zipboy Posted September 3, 2004 Report Posted September 3, 2004 Hope your post is wrong Dr Z. Zips down 3 driving for the final drive, Frye leans over, he scores, no wait the back judge over rules the line judge. Oh wait, that was Wisconsin. If it comes down to the end, Big 10 refs screw us, no question in my mind. Quote

Guest Dr. Who Posted September 5, 2004 Report Posted September 5, 2004 I said PSU +30... it was +38, actually +41 before they took the 3rd quarter fg off the board. Akron lost all of it's vital talent last year. This team is going to struggle to win 4 games. If you cannot see that you are looking through rose colored glasses. Early line, MTSU +10. Who dat? Quote
old zip Posted September 5, 2004 Report Posted September 5, 2004 After PSU scored on their second play, and I watched the defense frantically trying to catch up, I thought almost immediately to myself, "some things never change". What were Frye's stats? Quote
Dr Z Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 Early line, MTSU +10. Zips favored by 7. Quote
Zipsrifle Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 Looks like Realist is back with a new name. Quote
