74ZIP
sorry folks but tonight's 'hard swallow' will be whats remembered about KD's teams at AKRON...let the other team dictate the tempo...break downs at critical times...can't win the 'big one'...and free throws?...what about stopping the guy with the ball in the backcourt?... basketball 101...they all stopped playing because they thought they had it...teams in the MAC do not get those opps every year...once again wait until next year...go ahead bury me! zipsbandman
Disgusted.......just completely disgusted. "We were tired", said KD. What about Miami????????????????????????????????!!!!!!!! I just don't even know what to think at this point.
you am i
i think emotions are running so high right now that its probably not the best time to have a fair discussion of kd's legacy. i'll offer that opinion after his career at akron is done. RACER
give me a break we won 26 games this year. all the other mac shcools besides miami would trade places with the zips right now.we lose one game and all the fans start complaing.be careful what you wish for. if you don't think kd will get offers from other schools. even though he wants to be here that does mean that other schools wont be offering. unZIPped
74zip - are you an incognito Can't fan? Gimme a frickin break! Let's chop off KD's head because the officials are a bunch of gutless morons. Do what's right and do it fairly. Lamont Simpson has got to be the worst referee to ever step foot in a gym. Maybe he should change his name to "Homer" Simpson....
Valpo Zip
I don't see any reason why KD should be blamed for this one. We all knew that Free throws will come some time to bite us in the a$$, well it happened to be tonight.Besides, what are the odds of the miami player making the ugly shot (off the board) from the 3 point line to win the game ? it happened tonight. ZachTheZip
KD isn't leaving, so I don't know why you guys are talking about his "legacy". The Zips will be even better next year, at least on paper. We will have one more player on the roster than we had this year, and everyone will be able to contribute. He has taken the Zips farther than they have ever been before, even under Bob Huggins. Wait until KD leaves Akron to discuss his legacy. Hoop Zip & Jump
For those of you "fans" up there^ who are trash-talking YOUR TEAMS coach who has gotten you this far in just three years. Remember the Hipsher days when we were having losing seasons every year? KD has made a horrible 13-15 team to a team with 26 wins and 7 losses by a combined total of 21 points. we should be happy we have a coach that WANTS to be here because, like RACER said, he could be somewhere else. yeah, its a hard loss. We think its a hard loss, but jsut imagine how KD and the team feels right now. They worked hard all season to get it all taken away from them because of an unjust call. Its obvious that most of you on this board are just frontrunners and not true fans. A true fan would support their team when they are down.BOTTOM LINE: we should be happy we have a coach like KD who has turned basketball in Akron around and we should be grateful we have come this far. zipsbandman
I can't even stomach talking about next year. It's going to take a year plus a football championship and a stadium announcement to heal this one.

KD is a very good coacah who turned this program around. he has kids wanting to come here to play. it is very hard to win a game when u have horrible officials..... and tonight was no exception. Wood under the basket an get hacked numberous times.... no call, Miami takes it to the other end to cut the lead..... joyce gets a phantom defensive blockin called on him when he turned to run opposite the miami player..... lets start to look at the good in the season an not the bad..... we still do have a small change at an at large bid, because in case u guys didnt know we beat 3 teams that are in the dance ( oral roberts, miami and niagra) and the committee does look at things like thatl
AntonioGates
Right now he is embarrassing himself, on ESPN, blaming everyone but himself or his team for the loss. One guy on ESPN News sarcastically called him, "A great loser. A real class act!" The Miami message board has the transcript from the press conference. MRasor0200
As far as I'm concerned, there are two elite coaches in the MAC.One patrols Akron's sidelines. One freak loss and fans want to turn him into Randy Wittman. Unbelievable.I hope Dambrot never sees this thread.
mcperp
Oh please, to disparage Dambrot and sum up his legacy after tonight's game is truly unfair and incredibly shortsighted. To give all of us the benefit of the doubt, a crushing loss like tonight's game is a recipe for hyperbole, and ill-thought declarations.Keith has put together a nationally respected mid major program in just a few years, he wins games with good, but certainly not great talent. 26 Wins this year for crying out loud and a 27th taken away by an ineptitude not seen since the 2000 election in Florida. This is an NCAA caliber team, with a small chance to get in the dance regardless, mega conferences like the Big East and ACC will probably preclude that chance, but Akron's recent media spurt can't hurt in the eyes of the committee, and if the Missouri Valley only gets 2 bids, one could open for the Zips. mcperp
Oh no! ESPN news said he's a "great loser"? Oh man, it's over for the Zips and KD because some guy at ESPN said something bad about a guy whose team had their heart ripped out by a technician with a fat thumb at the scorer's table. KD should have just thrown his arms up, shrug and whistle, "dems the breaks, oh well". Perhaps the ESPN gurus would have labeled him as a lousy advocate for his team. Quickzips
I just hope to god that we can use this disappointment for something good. I hope we can come back even hungrier than ever next year (god I hate always talking about next year). I hope this ends up being the true turning point for this program in a good way. I hope we can use this bitter taste in our mouths to come out and steamroll the MAC for the next 15 years (or at least until we can get out of this bushleague confrence). I hope this doesn't send us into a funk where we doubt ourselves next year and start regressing.

GP1
KD's legacy is incomplete. So far he shows himself to be a good coach.....good not great. Good does not make someone special because there are a lot of good coaches out there. On the good side, KD gets a group of kids with marginal athletic talent to play hard every night. On the bad side, he gets kids with marginal athletic talent. KD needs to get one great player on this team who can score at will taking the ball to the basket and stop worrying so much about defense or he'll become the Mike Fratello (sp?) of Akron basketball. Defense winning championships if the biggest lie ever told in sports. As far as coaching last night, Miami did nothing special. They played the same borring game they do night after night. Akron played their game with them and lost. To blame the coach alone is not fair after that loss. As much as I like KD, he looked as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs the last five minutes of the game. Players pick up on those kinds of things and if my memory serves me correctly, we only scored six points in the last five minutes.Late in the game when it was close but UofA was still winning, I told my wife that Charlie Coles has Akron exactly where he wants them. Coles seems know that regular season games in the MAC are insignificant compared to the tournament and his team was the best prepared for the tournament. Captain Kangaroo
Speaking of Dambrot's "legacy" after the season strikes me as pretty odd. Dambrot's here for the next several years...it's way to early to discuss it.The legacy of Joyce and Travis is now ready for discussion. Good careers, the team steadily improved as their careers progressed...but no NCAA's. To me, that means no jersies in the rafters. If they do go up one day, I'll politely clap. It isn't like it would be Bryan Hipsher and David Kalb being immortalized...but I'll disagree with the decision. Yesterday's loss to Miami also makes the raising of the MAC East banner title to the rafters a "hollow" ceremony. Does the basketball team get big championship rings for that one? If so, I bet most players put it permanently in a drawer or have already thrown it in lake Erie.We stand about a 10% chance of an NCAA bid and a 99% chance of an NIT bid.NIT Fever...catch it. RACER
kd is a great coach.i only thing where i thought we should have played milmum/mc knight a few more min to give wood, and travis more rest. hopefully with two 6' 9 guys coming in next year we should have alott of front line depth.the ony weakness is see next year is at the pg. we need someone to step up there. zipsbandman
What did Romeo really do last night besides miss his share of free throws? Joyce was nonexistent this entire tournament. Wood was the only one who got anything done offensively, and that is what killed us. Once he got tired we were done. The same thing that killed us in our regular season losses was that we could not score in crunch time. One thing we need to do now is recruit recruit recruit. It's nice that we have guys that play hard, but I want to see a little more raw talent and athleticism on this team. No more guys like Rybak. Linhart and Milum are just average players at best. We need a rotation of 10 solid guys like Can't has. I do think the recruiting class coming in is going to help. If we keep bringing in classes like that I would not be too concerned. ZipAlumn
One loss - yes it is one that is tough to take - and everyone starts talking about the "Legacy" of the coach, the players, this team and teams past. Sports often reflects situations in life, and life is never fair - deal with it. This team won 26 games, they won them with the same palyers, the same coaches, the same strengths and the same weaknesses that they lost to Miami with. One loss, or seven, does not call for sack cloths and ashes when compared with 26 wins. Let congratulate Miami and Charlie Coles and move on to the NIT. Also lets be proud of all those Zips that gave us those 26 win. But please, please next year pratice free throws.
74ZIP
unlike rasor,i hope KD does see the reaction to last night...if it can be used for positive change so much the better...there are lots of reasons games like last night's slip away...coaches decisions...player's mistakes...if what happened last night allows KD to look at himself(in the coaching sense) and make adjustments then a negative becomes a positve for the program...BUT don't start whining about the refs in the NEVADA game after losing to miami(ABJ today)...that just sends the message to the players and the staff that someone else is responsible for what happened...hopefully the NIT will be kind and the team can regroup..
BirdZip
Not so sure the NIT will be kind, with all of the new auto bids in there.I'm not rooting for Miami. Their success will do nothing for the MAC. Can't State went to the Elite 8 a few years ago--did that earn us extra bids? We need better scheduling but if no-one will play us, what can you do? I say go after higher ranked mid-majors if the majors won't play us.And one more thing--How about an NCAA tournament rule that limits the number of teams from a conference. If you're not at least the 6th best in your conference, why are you going to the NCAA tournament?
BirdZip
Oh, and one more thing. If you're going to take a loss in the MAC CHAMPIONSHIP on a freak 3-point bank shot after a clock error to justify throwing out Dambrot, save us all the time and stop posting here.
