mollautt
=>CC surprisingly finishes ahead of Christian, Miller, and Brownell. Also ties Joplin. I guess "3 nights in Cleveland make a hard man humble..."Who voted for O'Shea as #1? http://frontier.cincinnati.com/blogs/ncaa/...5/ohios-top-aspCOACH, SCHOOL - PTS Thad Matta, Ohio State (25) - 80 Steve Moore, Wooster (2) - 38 Ron Niekamp, Findlay (1) - 20 Keith Dambrot, Akron (2) - 12 Charlie Coles, Miami (1) - 8 Stan Joplin, Toledo (1) - 8 Sean Miller, Xavier - 7 Guy Neal, Bluffton (1) - 4 Damon Goodwin, Capital - 4 Tim O'Shea, Ohio University (1) - 3 Brad Brownell, Wright State - 2 Geno Ford, Muskingum - 2 Jim Christian, Can't State - 1 Matt Croci, Kenyon - 1 Cliff Hunt, Lake Erie -
timmyboy
thad mata as the best coach...NO. look at all the talent he had around him and he couldnt win a national title. Im not saying Dambrot is the best because i havent seen all the coaches, but i know if u give dambrot the talent mata had, he would do the same if not better. Look at what he has done for the zips. UAZipster0305
Still, the 2nd best D-1 coach in Ohio isn't bad! Considering the empire OSU is, I think the best we could expect from a media vote is 2nd...sad, but true.

Look at what he has done for the zips.It would've been hard for the media to pass up the coach of the National Championship runner-up. With that said, I agree with you on not being all that impressed by Matta. Great recruiter, not so great coach...and I think half the time OSU won despite his efforts. And how much credence can be placed in a poll that places O'Shea over Christian? I hate Can't and I hate their program, but what he did what their team last year and in recent years with that program has been quite impressive. He's gotten the most out of teams with not as much talent. I'd say the opposite about O'Shea.
Zipmeister
Actually the best D1 coach in Ohio was Brownell at Wright State. He had a short (one guy taller than 6'6"), not extremely talented team and took them to the Big Dance. Look out for them in coming years. Next years team will have 5 guys at 6'8" or taller. Captain Kangaroo
Actually the best D1 coach in Ohio was Brownell at Wright State. He had a short (one guy taller than 6'6"), not extremely talented team and took them to the Big Dance. Look out for them in coming years. Next years team will have 5 guys at 6'8" or taller. Look out for Gary Waters in the next couple years. I spoke to him at the MAC tourney for a few minutes. He said he was kicking 10 players off the CSU team ("they just weren't division 1 caliber") and starting to build "his" program. He didn't want to play the Zips next year(we just won't be at that level yet"), but was hoping to get us on the schedule in 2009. The Waters/Dambrot battles could be the long, long, long awaited sequel to the Mackey/Huggins wars of the mid-to-late 80's.
Zipmeister
I wouldn't hold my breath; the best laid plans oft go astray. At least they had coach Waters placement correct in this year's coach of the year balloting.
