skip-zip
I've heard some of you talk about this kid before. But I don't know much about him.The Beacon is reporting this morning that he has agreed to take a walk-on spot on our roster next year. It also indicates that was offered a similar walk-on spot at YSU. That seems odd to me that a 2nd teamer that scored 24 points per game isn't getting scholarship offers from D-1 schools. I'm not quite sure why this would be the case, unless he has limited skills. Can someone shed some light on this for me?
GoZips
Nice find, SKIP. It was sort of buried in the online edition of the ABJ.Supposition on my part based on article in the Canton Repository is that Eric isnot a complete player skill set wise. He is a six-three guard who generally shoots andscores a lot of points from a set position. Colleges want guards to penetrate and shoot off the dribble. He obviously can really shoot the ball well. His stats prove that. He just might be areal plus with the extended three point rule.Coblentz Article
Buckzip
Remember David Wood a few years back?He was something like the highest scoring player in Colorado history. Yet, he couldn't even see the court at UA. That is before he left the team.High school stats don't always translate to college.
ziptrumpet87
so it sounds like basically he's a taller version of Goddard at this point...

He was definitely a D-2 player, but at the time I would have taken him over the guy ahead of him on the depth chart - the immortal Bryan Hipsher.David Wood was also a Zip. He was the kid that got beat with the chair in the locker room during the Coleman Crawford era. He got a broken arm out of the deal, if I recall correctly? GoZips88
so it sounds like basically he's a taller version of Goddard at this point... That's how I have him pictured too.
skip-zip
That was my assumption. He had to be lacking something if people weren't waving scholarships in his face.I remember the story about the locker room fight and the broken arm. I can't remember anymore, but who was the other player involved in that fight??
Captain Kangaroo
I can't remember anymore, but who was the other player involved in that fight??I think someone has finally uncovered a Zips related question that I can't answer. My Ripken-esque streak goes by the wayside. Any takers on the player who administerd the beatdown? Zipboy? Does Jarvis Catron check out ZipsNation? Help us out, JC! zipboy
This goes a way back, but I think it was the infamous Kenny Woosley. Ah those were the times. Anyone remember Mario Bell? I think he was all MAC freshman team and then left to be a rapper. How about Chris Hahn? He left a game at halftime and never came back. Sorry, going off on a tanget just thinking about weird endings to careers. I just don't see that happening anymore with Dambrot.
skip-zip
zipboy...You may have answered the riddle. I just can't remember who that was who started the chair fight. I remember Mario Bell quite well. He looked to have a great career going, and then fell off the face of the earth.I remember when gozips.com had a "were are they now" link. But I don't remember ever seeing anything on it. I'd like to hear more about Mario Bell's rap career. And frankly, I'd like to know more about what happened to some other guys. I'm friends with some ex-football players from my era in the 80's, so I hear about the football players. But, the ex-basketball players are a mystery to me. Blue & Gold
Jimmal Ball is playing for FIBA Europe. I believe for a French team. He actually has his own website, which is very well done. Here's the link:http://www.jimmalball.com/Obviously I'm no talent evaluation expert, but I think Jimmal could help the CAVS right now! J-BIDDY
so it sounds like basically he's a taller version of Goddard at this point... He is not as good of a shooter as Goddard. He needs to be set, he needs time to get his shot off, he is better all around then Goddard though. If you want to compare him to some one on our current roster, compare him to Linhart, Coblentz is a little thicker and a better shooter, but needs time to set his shot and is not as quick as Linhart or aggressive boarding. He has three older brothers two that played basketball. Zach played at Malone and Seth went and sat the bench for a year at Can't State and then transfered to Malone also, I believe. Eric will probably sit on the bench for a year at Akron and then transfer to a smaller college unless he can get PT. I don't know how loyal he will be. I remember a year or so back him rushing the court from the stands as Can't State won the MAC Tourney at the Q.Anyway, I hope he pans out, the family is very nice and would be a real asset to the program if he stays. I vaguely know the extended family and they're all an extremely nice bunch of people. The extended fam (the Miller's) own half of Hartville.
