GoZips
Congratulations to Andy Hipsher as he moves up through the college coaching ranks.Andy's New Gig
Blue & Gold
I know we all got tired of Andy's dad, but do you think Andy would make a good addition to our coaching staff? We all liked Andy and appreciated his guts in playing through severe back pain (quite unimaginable to me!) and his basketball IQ. Though, it may be awkward between he and KD? Big Zip
I think it's a great question. I'd love to have Andy as a coach on this team. I don't think it would be awkward either -- college coaching is what it is and if you got caught up what has happened in the past a lot of people would have trouble.I think there is another interesting question here too -- what former athletes would you like to see return to coach at Akron (assistant or other). I think it would be great to have Butchie here working with the QBs -- I know he's at Ashland, but he was fun to watch here and I think he made the most of his skills. Captain Kangaroo
I'm pretty much done with the Hipshers. There are 300 million people in the United States. If we need an assistant coach, I'm sure there are qualified candidates out there whose last name isn't Hipsher.I wish him well, but I am severely scarred from the Hipsher era and do not want another Hipsher on our bench. skip-zip
That would have been like Gerry Faust hiring Jim Dennison's son to be an assistant coach. It just doesn't work for me. I wish him well though. And frankly, I don't he'd ever feel comfortable here knowing how little respect people had for his dad's ability. sgm405
In other news, I've been told that Bryan Hipsher led his intramural basketball team to another championship...congrats Bryan!

He is from the area (Wooster), is currently a HS coach in the area (IIRC) and comes from a hoops coaching family so he's basically been submersed in the sport all his life. I don't know what his goals are but I think his dad was always a HS coach so maybe those are the footsteps he's following. His sister Marcie who played at tosu is also a HS (womens) HC now. Mark always seemed like the even-keeled type, not fiery...I don't know much about his coaching style, motivational techniques, how he'd do at recruiting, etc. but it seems like he'd have potential at the D1 level.
