Captain Kangaroo Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 I've heard he might be leaning towards Akron? It would be an awesome signing for the Zips if it is true. He's arguably the top HS RB in Akron this upcoming season. 4.4 forty and about 210 lbs. Has anyone heard similar rumblings?Click for Bio Quote
zff Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 Getting Larry would be huge. This would kick down the door that Brian Williams opened in Feb on signing day. The Zips need to land the top local talent. And it might help to land Johnny Adams. Quote

He will be playing in a brand new stadium.....with a team that is on the rise...........a great fit for Larry. Quote

With state of the art facilities, a chance to play sooner rather than later, Akron should be at or near the top for quality local talent. Crossing my fingers for these guys to be Zips. Quote
zff Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 Here is the latest on Adams from Akron.scout.comAkron Buchtel’s Johnny Adams has quietly collected 8 scholarship offers, including the likes of West Virginia, Pitt and Michigan State. He recently completed an impressive camp tour. Is “Mr. Excitement” still on the Ohio State radar? Bill Greene has more on this fine prospect. Akron Buchtel star athlete Johnny Adams is known as “Mr. Excitement” in recruiting circles. Adams holds 8 scholarship offers, with the most recent being Indiana, Purdue and Marshall. He had previously been offered by West Virginia, Pitt, Michigan State, Syracuse and Akron. Adams is pleased with how recruiting has gone so far. “It’s going real good,” Adams said of his recruiting. “Indiana and Purdue are the latest to offer. I don’t know much about either school really. Both schools said they saw me at the Elite Skills camp in Cleveland and liked what I did that day. Marshall is another fairly new offer.” Adams said he has no favorite school at this time and is considering all schools even. He hopes to be able to take a few visits this fall and get to know the coaching staffs a lot better. “I definitely don’t have a favorite right now,” he insisted. “My mom and I will be going to see some schools this fall and that will help me be able to make the right decision. I could see myself going to all of the schools that have offered me so far. I’ve even given some thought to staying home and going to Akron. Coach Reno Ferri is recruiting me and we’re real tight. I love the whole staff at Akron and think they’re a program on the rise. What they need is for a few local guys to go there and start helping recruit the area. I’m wide open to hearing what any college has to say. If they’re interested in me, then I’m interested in them. I’m in no hurry to make a decision. It could happen before the season but it probably won’t happen then. I’m in summer school and I want to graduate early, so I won’t be going to any camps the rest of the summer.” Adams has had several impressive camp showings and has enjoyed being able to compete against other top athletes. “I love going up against the best and seeing how I measure up,” Adams exclaimed. “I loved being able to work out in front of 100 college coaches in Cleveland. That was really cool. They all said I did real well. Every school that’s offered me is recruiting me as an athlete. Most say that I could end up playing on both sides of the ball. At the Scout.com camp in Pittsburgh I thought I did real well also as a defensive back. I haven’t done a lot of individual testing but I did run a 4.35 forty-yard dash at the Akron City camp. I think I had a real good performance at the Ohio State camp too.” Speaking of Ohio State, Adams says he’s hoping for an offer from Jim Tressel and the Buckeyes. He remains in contact with the staff but isn’t sure where things stand at this moment.“I had a great day at the Ohio State camp,” Adams said. “I really don’t know what’s going on with them though. After the camp I talked with coach [Paul] Haynes and he said he liked what I did. We sat down one-on-one and had a great talk. I also spoke with Jim Tressel after camp ended. They both said my footwork and my ball skills were real good. Coach Tressel said he was impressed. I don’t know what the holdup would be. When coach Tressel and coach [Jim] Bollman came to my track meet this spring I thought they were going to offer then. They’ve stayed in contact with me all along. They text message me all the time and they called me once. I’m waiting for an offer. They were happy that I got a 22 on the ACT. I think they know what they’re looking for and I think they are done evaluating me. The next time we talk I’m going to ask them where I stand.” Quote
zipboy Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 Good find ZFF. It sounds like if osu does not offer, we have a fighting chance. Johnny is on the money, we just need a few top local kids to choose the Zips. Bryan Williams was one. I look and see what the Akron kids did for Zips basketball and hope that we get 3 or 4 kids to break the mold and be Zips. Quote
RACER Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 the kid sounds very smart.if akron can start landing a few of the top kids in the area the program could take off quickly in the mac.let's face it if osu offers he is probably gone but after thatmaybe we have a good chance. Quote
